  1. Look at the Natures Gift label, not all are made equal. Hence my saying generally. But, unless they have some technology I'm aware of it's still crap for teeth, and I'd be surprised if it's as cost effective than raw or a good kibble. As a part of a varied diet who cares if it isn't cost effective. It adds variety, tempts oldies, and certainly wont kill them. I'm sure the teeth will survive the occasional meal too. No one is advocating it as a sole diet, and the dogs surely wont sprout a third eye from the odd meal of it.

  3. There is no reason why a good quality tinned food cannot be part of a varied diet, I don't think anyone here has mentioned feeding it as a sole diet. I have Natures Gift tinned food on hand all the time, the oldies love it and it adds variety to their diet. It was also a blessing during the floods when we were unable to source any fresh food for the dogs, All our dogs and our canine flood evacuees ate it for some time with no ill effects, no sloppy poo and no foul odours.
  4. Yes I know the views on Pets Paradise, but back when I did the research, Innova was a fantastic food and imported from America - and only available at Pets Paradise. Question: For the dry food what is the target ingredients in terms of percentage protein, fat etc? It really does depend on your dog and it's nutritional needs. Is your dog still growing, is it very active, is it working, is it prone to obesity.
  5. ;) No- let it breed and raise a family to pee everywhere, chew holes in your house ,bring fleas inside and poo in the ceiling.
  6. It looks nothing like a Maremma, it looks like a fluffy (poss from being clipped) aged and quite distressed golden from the photos and footage I have seen.
  7. I do not believe there is a BEST food, but there will be a food that your dog does best on. If your dog has no allergies or intolerances, buy the best food you can afford and see how your dog goes. Meat first, no colours and other crap and see how you go.
  8. I would like to remove the word attack for a moment and see if it alters the way people respond to what they think they know about this incident. The dog may not have attacked anyone, what if there was in fact an altercation between 2 or more humans and the dog was simply in the mix? The truth is none of us here actually have any idea what happened, nor do the press. I strongly disagree with the emotive wording that gets used when reporting any incident relating to dogs. Every time a child is bitten it is Savaged or Mauled. Dogs fighting is Attacking and Savaging. Humans often stupidly put themselves in situations where they are going to be injured, and the animal cops the blame. I know someone who was badly injured as a result of stupidly attempting to separate a dog fight that was triggered by resource guarding incident between 3 very excited large dogs, and it was water spray from a hose that was the resource. The press were right on to it wanting to report the savage dog attack that did in fact had not happened. I don't understand the frenzy to label dogs as killers and savage beasts. We certainly don't do it with horses and stupidity and ignorance certainly can result in death and injury to humans there. I've done it myself, slipped up with a horse and come off second best, no one wanted to run to the papers, but you can be sure if I was injured by one of my dogs it would be different. 4 people injured in an incident that involved a dog. I'd like to know what really happened before we all run around sprouting that a dog without warning savagely attacked 4 people. Unfortunately we probably will never know, the dog will be destroyed and nothing will be gained.
  9. Anybody can be mugged are you assuming these people are dodgy because they were? No wonder the world is screwed. I actually don't care what breed the dog is ANY dog incident needs to be investigated before a decision is made to end a dogs life. I have seen many dogs killed through no fault of their own or for retaliation, and yes I do believe that a dog has the right to defend itself. I don't believe that anyone who is not fully aware of the circumstance can make a call. Those that call for any dog that bites a human under any circumstances to be destroyed as happens every time we have something in the media are unrealistic, we are dealing with animals.
  10. “I plan to send my liver somewhere in France, to protest foie gras (liver pate) ... I plan to have handbags made from my skin ... and an umbrella stand made from my seat.” — PETA President Ingrid Newkirk speaking to onMilwaukee.com, Feb 2005
  11. One of the biggies about Breeding is taking responsibility for the lives that you bring into the world. Sometimes that means making decisions that may be hard for others to understand or accept. I can imagine what would be said if Breeders all dumped their problems in the laps of rescue. Over the past few days I have shared the link to the article on these pups with a number of people, I haven't had one yet that wouldn't have PTS.
  12. Sometimes people have to realise that what they want is not what they should have. All I can see is a society that expects their wants to become reality and are prepared to stamp their feet and toss a tantie if it isn't available or they are told no, just like a 2yo. If you do not want to deal with dog hair in any manner don't get a dog, non shedding dogs are high maintenance and the majority I see get next to none at home. Dogs of any breed need training, if you don't want to train your dog and guide it through adolescence and wait till it is a stable steady companion, don't get a dog. Dogs need exercise if you don't want to do that don't get a dog. It seems the only dog suitable to so many demands is robotic, now there's a thing. Smaller house yards, busier lifestyles, less open space for exercise means that many cannot have their breed of choice and need to look down the chart a bit and maybe adjust their thinking rather than try and adjust the dogs.
  13. A mother cat may well take them on if you cannot get a dog, I have had a cat feed and clean small breed pups.
  14. Well I would put down a pup with CP, but I have never put down a pup because it didn't meet my show or breeding standards, in fact I know very few breeders who would. If The Ark does well that is sad. This thread is about about two pups born without front legs and I won't repeat PFs post listing just some of the reasons why they should have been PTS. What the future holds for these poor mites is anyones guess, but they are animals of a species designed to walk on 4 legs, they are of a breed that is known for patella and often hip issues, they are going to struggle through whatever life they have on 2 legs unable to survive without great assistance, that is appalling.
  15. I haven't heard of it failing but it can take time to be effective. It is not immediate.
  16. Pups are not a product you can just buy off the shelf, or they shouldn't be. Good Breeders are not Big W or Kmart, they wont sell to just anyone, because the dogs deserve better than that.
  17. Whatever floats your boat. Personally I find it best to use whatever works the best for each case and not be closed minded. I have had dogs that didn't respond terribly well to purely positive methods. Guess I am on a power trick. Evil
  18. Lets not start something like this in here, we're here to discuss Black Hawk. There are plenty of other threads on Dol to take your business Skruffy n Flea - My Belgian used to be prone to getting chubby on other dry foods but since being on BH she's kept a very steady lovely weight. She gets the total of a cup a day, spread out over two meals. I was worried I'd still have trouble keeping her weight down but nope! My question was regarding this thread, you wanted him to change foods, I was simply asking why. I have no idea what else you are referring to.
  19. I know a number of entire bitches that have gone each other and one that killed another. 'Entire' is where the problems stem from. I disagree, desexed bitches that are that way inclined will still fight with the best of them.
  20. i take it you're not a cat person, huh? No...I am not a "cat person" & didn't know there was a law that said everyone should love cats. I am a "native wildlife" person & you can't be both unless you keep your cat locked up 24/7 & no animal should be denied access to fresh air & sunshine IMO. It is completely possible to keep a cat contained and allow it access to fresh air and sunshine, and the cats are happy and safe.
  21. The reason there are different products is not for the flea variety but for the cats, many products that are ok for dogs are lethal to cats and for those products than are cat safe the dosage rates may vary.
  22. People are paying for a service that they are either unwilling or unable to do themselves, obviously the market is there or people wouldn't be paying the prices they do. Those that are unhappy with what they have paid or the service they receive soon find a new salon, or learn to do it themselves. Grooming is hard, dirty and often thankless work.
