  1. It is possible for any human or animal to have a reaction to ANY product applied or ingested. It does not mean there is a problem with the product as such simply that the individual involved cannot use it.
  2. Any breeding can only produce problems if they are present in the lines to start with it will not create them. Breed from 2 animals that carry the same defective genes and you will have problems no matter what.
  3. I'm curious, Can you define what you mean by "live in kennels". SSM described her situation which is a very common one for multiple dog households. IMO dogs in this situation do not live in kennels. Some single dog families have a dog that lives its life locked in a backyard while its humans rarely venture out there, or spend entire days crated, or locked in a bathroom or laundry. But to many this is acceptable. For many people and this includes Breeders there is a necessity to be able to secure or isolate a dog or multiple dogs at times. A secure kennel run or building is often the most viable solution. I certainly could not imagine not having secure facilities available if they are needed. A secure kennel run is IMO preferable to leaving an animal locked in a room or crate. Kennel runs/complexes do not need to be ammonia ridden prison cells. They can be secure but airy, comfortable pleasant places for dogs to spend some time. Have such facilities does not necessarily equate to the animals living in them 24/7.
  4. Why should Vets police laws? They are not Law makers or enforcers, Many people don't bother to vaccinate who are you going to get to police the MC then? Groomers? Boarding Kennels? Local and state Laws need to be policed by those set up to do so but they don't so the system is a fail.
  5. What are you judging interest on? A post on here over a busy easter long weekend? It could be a wonderful thing depending on how impartial those at the top are.
  6. He certainly is a little cutie. I wouldn't use the Malaseb at all, it is far too drying and if you do not need to treat some specific skin complaint with it I would avoid it. Freshen him up with a rinse in warm water with a splash of Alpha Keri or QV oil. I have found the VAN Skin & Coat supplement along with a good omega oil and a great diet (I prefer raw) the best way to get their skin and coat back in order.
  7. Were you surprised they recommended a behaviourist? Behaviour IS a specialised area . vets with normal training ,cannot , IMO, be expected to understand and be able to work with anatomy/physiology of multiple species/breeds ..... AND be comfortable in assessing and helping with behavioural issues . Its like human GPs - they have enough trouble working with physicalities - most are just not equipped to deal with the psycholgical ..or other specialised areas ...and they only have ONE species with which to deal! ;) Yes but GPs do treat mental health issues at a basic level before referring to specialists. All I am saying is that they could offer some basic training in the degree. Or vets with inner city practices who see mostly dogs and cats could at least be able to say look here are some websites you could look at for those that are unable to afford or unwilling to see specialised behaviourial practitioners. To be realistic most people out there would not take it further than the vet. GPs prescribe meds..in fact they over prescribe them. Specialists are just that and I expect my health care providers and those of my pets to refer to those when that is what is needed. IMO there are far too many specialist area in Vet Science for them to cover them to any advantage. Too many species and far too many breeds in those. Human medicine is so much easier.
  8. Plastic bags come with a warning printed on them..shame we have come to this...
  9. I have several, very good quality & strongly constructed, never had one break. I wouldn't/buy or use a cheap shoddy one from the discount store or supermarket. Idiots are every where and so are cheap & nasty pet accessories. Don't stop with banning the retractable leads, Ban elastic collars on small dogs, long lines (great for taking out the unsuspecting persons legs in the dog park or beach) cheap snap collars, we wont have anything left except the idiots.
  10. The sodium nitrate alone in the human processed rolls would put me off using them, I wont eat them myself. They are also high in fat and most have sugars.
  11. You cannot honestly expect people to help you in what appears to be a crusade when you offer no information. Sounds like you have an axe to grind, maybe do it through the correct channels not an internet forum.
  12. I don't quite understand your tsk tsk comment...every Groomer that I have been in communication with since this tragedy is absolutely disgusted and sickened that this was allowed to happen. I doubt there were many Groomers in Australia who did not hear about this within the first 48 hours and the reaction was totally one of disgust and dismay and great sadness from each and every one..certainly no tsk tsk.
  13. The ingredients and the quality vary from brand to brand there are some excellent choices and also some low fat options for those dogs that need to be on low fat. The VAN rolls for example are excellent:) Not all rolls are created equal.
  14. RSPCA have been either non responsive or so slow to act that horses have died in my experience. Try a group such as Horse Welfare Inc"]Horse Welfare Inc.[/url].
  15. Don't presume a Breeder does not test simply on the wording of an advert. For many it is simply a part of what they do and they see no need to even mention they do it, it is all discussed when contact is made.
  16. Show it to me? Show me evidence that shows that anyone who is not an ANKC registered breeder that is breeding dogs is doing it in a completely random manner. I find that one in particular very hard to believe. They are at least picking the breeds they want to use most of the time. Show me the evidence that none of them health test. Maybe they have had different experiences, different upbringing, and different beliefs and education. How many random bred dogs does someone have to buy before they run out of luck? How many pedigree dogs? Rhetorical questions. Of all the byb's I've asked , NONE have health tested their "breeding dogs" None have seen the "need" for it. as to selecting conformation- SOME had no clue what that even meant, while others didn't care. If a person wanted to breed, but couldn't give a hoot about formal registration (ANKC ect) but still health tested and assessed temperament and Conformation- then they are not byb's in my book- but the kind of breeder who cares about what they produce (though I doubt you'll find many of these) as doing "right" by the dog is going to cut into their profit margin- and they may as well become a registered breeder. There's a couple of facebook pages that I ask every BYBer the relevant health questions pertaining to their breed and ask if the parents have been tested. I've asked countless BYBers and not one has said yes, the majority say there's no need to and that they are $500 puppies not show dogs. YES!! No need to health test they are not show dogs, and most don't have a clue what health problems there are or that many of them can be greatly reduced or prevented through proper testing and selection of breeding stock.
  17. If she has left them and has no intention coming back for them she can be charged with abandonment. You need to call the council or the RSPCA and go through the correct channels.
  18. Listerine Original formula the amber/yellow coloured one, and either Scholl Tinea Powder spray or Daktarin spray work well :)
  19. many vet Clinics have scales in the waiting room...Clients often like to just pop in and weigh their pets...I am really puzzled as to why you consider it not only a problem but a Council problem Because the council said they had a problem with it and i would understand it as a problem if certain vets had to take off collars and leads to weight there dogs for whatever reason as not all dogs get on with each other. Sorry but that is a load of piggy poo ....scales for weighing animals on private premises have nothing what so ever to do with the council..

  21. Yes Listerene works, it dries out the area and kills the bacteria, Athletes Foot powder works the same way, as does Curash Powder...Hot spots need to be kept dry and if used quickly these remedies are very effective. Betedine scrub with a dash of meths was a favourite that worked very quickly too. I have used all of these with great success and no need to shave the area and further irritate it.
  22. Dogs are designed beautifully to chew up meaty bones, it is what comes naturally. Accusing owners of being lazy for not scaling and cleaning their dogs teeth when they are feeding a species appropriate diet is quite funny.
  23. Roo meat stinks IMO, I can't stand the smell of it, but that is all I have been able to smell in the rolls or RAW. There was nothing wrong with the products.
  24. My dogs once were to be able to be left on down stays outside the shops... .. large savage beasts unrestrained in the centre of town..how times have changed.
