  1. I don't look at the balance of ONE meal, I look at balance over time, turkey necks are a great feed for a dog as part of their diet, any edible raw MEATY bones are a great part of a dogs diet. I cannot imagine not including them most days, so many benefits. I have seen some pretty cruddy teeth on raw fed dogs that do not get regular raw meaty bone meals. Of course it is all a matter of opinion but in my experience through feeding dogs large and small for many years it works for my dogs.
  2. Interesting ....huge amount of good meat on the turkey necks I use, certainly not a waste of money IMO..each to his own I guess
  3. Wow really..who would have thunk it hey.. Our bodies are mostly water..but they certainly don't need the amounts of chlorine and fluoride found in most town water supplies. You may not agree but who cares.
  4. My dogs and cats don't drink unfiltered water either, the crap added to town water supplies is not good for man nor beast. Some Breeders feel very strongly about trying to ensure the best possible chance at a long healthy life for the animals they bring into the world. While it may seem over the top to some for those that attempt to keep their animals as chemical free as possible it is simply par for the course.
  5. I don't just don't see where people get the idea that show bred dogs of any breed are untrainable head cases....total bunkum! You get what you put in. A hard wired dog may be totally unsuitable, also a working Lab should be a calm steady dog that has plenty of down time waiting to be asked to perform its role, no use to a hunter if the dog is a nut case that is unsafe around other dogs or shooters with guns.
  6. Have you tried larger meaty bones, too large to be swallowed that she actually has to work on?
  7. This! The VAN Complete Mix you simply add whatever meat you prefer. The Rolls and the RAW 76 are the ones that have roo in them as they are already prepared diets.
  8. I use Dermcare Intensive vitamin E cream before and during the work day, and MooGoo Flufffy Shea Butter at night, generously apply whatever cream you choose to use at night and wear cotton gloves to bed till you get your hands under control. It pays to try a few different shampoo brands too, I tried many before I was happy with both the way they brought the dogs coats up and the effect they had on my hands.
  9. Bones and Raw Food..BARF..not restricted to commercially available ready to serve products.
  10. The best person to discuss the supplements with is your Breeder, they should be able to help you and explain why they have chosen the combinations they have. :) Congratulations on your new pup..goes without saying that GSD are awesome :)
  11. Play dough is great for spicing up the poo patrol..makes nappy changing time more colourful too. I made my own Play Dough and I think the saltiness attracted the dogs, not sure why my son ate it though
  12. I buy Melrose cold pressed organic coconut oil from the supermarket or the chemist warehouse :)
  13. It needs to be identified. If it is an epulis then it will keep growing and growing and growing. Benign does not mean harmless. My old mini schnauzer Zeppi (RIP) had an epulis. We thought he had broken a tooth. It came up very quickly. The vet ended up taking the canine and surrounding teeth with clear margins. There was no option but to remove it. If it can't be removed, it needs to be cut back. I have seen pictures of a pug called Pumpkin in the states who was rescued with an epulis the size of a small pumpkin (hence the name). I can't find the pages - looks like they have been removed but it was horrible. It was so big that they couldn't remove it all just cut it back and monitor. Any oral growth need monitoring, so many of them do grow and cause the dog discomfort. Much easier to remove whilst at manageable size The Pumpkin story is available here, it is quite disturbing so be warned..Pumpkin
  14. I'd be hesitant to use any road transport that also transports unquarantined pound animals. So ask questions first. Flying would be my first choice.
  15. Unless things have changed recently, the NSW local government companion animals registry does not share information. Many owners are caught out when they move from NSW to another state not realising that the registry is not a national one.
  16. This behaviour is not confined to PR although they are the closest and most immediate threat to Australian rescue, it is a growing trend across the world in rescue and among those that push the anti breeder wagon. Some of the overseas ones I have had conversations with are quite simply batshit crazy and they manage to cultivate the intensity in those they get to follow them. It is very cult like. One USA rescuer told me they have agents/followers ( will try and find the exact words she used), here in Australia who investigate and report back to them and act on their behalf. These sorts of groups and their fans are a very serious threat to genuine rescue. The best thing that could happens is legal action when there is definite solid evidence like what has happened here, sadly a lot is written on forums and fb and the like but is deleted.
  17. This ! Sighthounds are so very different from other breeds. Comparing them to other breeds is like comparing a meat chicken to a racing pigeon. IMO the dog in question is pretty close to ideal.
  18. I can't understand the griping about Vet costs...seriously ...the overheads involved in running a Vet Practice are huge...and after all those years at Uni the wages are not great. The after hours and weekends on call, and the whinging clients would be enough to warrant double what they get in the first 10 years.
  19. The way it reads I'd say no I wouldn't expect the other owner to pay.
  20. For a pet Cocker you can clip out the armpits, and the belly (from navel down) and inner thighs and use a coat king to take out some of the bulk from the rest of her coat.
  21. It is a widespread problem, people take it upon themselves to keep or rehome animals with next to no effort made to allow an owner to find them. I groomed a little dog a while back and when the owners collected it they were telling me they picked it up whilst traveling around on holidays, it was out on the street at 5am so obviously no one owned it or didn't deserve to keep it. Someone several states away lost a pet that day.
  22. When rabid extremists start screaming..don't buy while pound dogs die..and I hate dog Breeders and the sheep like followers all start doing the same all the while not knowing EXACTLY what they are supporting or HOW this cleansing of puppy farms (define that for me too)is going to be achieved, you just have to wonder. So people here support Oscar Law ...well tell us what OSCARS LAW IS? Starting to sound more and more like the apologists for PETAs acts of terrorism every day.
  23. Having seen first hand how animals are judged by branches of this organisation, then yep sounds spot on!! The Temperament testing is only as good as the people conducting it. I have seen some absolute doozies. Before you start assuming people are acting like sheep..some here have had personal dealings with the organisation on different levels. It wouldn't take much to be morally superior than an organisation that needs a thorough cleansing starting at the very top.
