  1. Interceptor and Advocate are both combination treatments, I wouldn't double up on that, just use a Flea only treatment, like Advantage, Comfortis etc. Comfortis is excellent.
  2. I read this and can't help but wonder - we chose to create a breed with such short legs it's tail drags on the ground, and then we blame any injuries on the fact we can't remove its tail rather than poor design on our behalf. Wouldn't a sensible solution be to breed for lengthened legs (to lift the tail from the ground) if the dogs health is being affected? I'm sure that won't happen because the stubby legged look is liked, but this type of issue makes me wonder about the human races thought process and priorities at times The short legs were not just for looks, like so many things people these days fail to appreciate.
  3. I use Heiniger cordless clippers daily for professional grooming, expensive but they last and battery time is excellent, Andis Super AGR cordless are also excellent. If you are doing full body clips a lot of the cheaper cordless will not handle the pace and the coats if the coat is not prepped properly.
  4. Nothing stops grubs being grubs, we have bad drivers on the roads all holding a legal drivers license. All the laws and regulations in the world are only good if individuals abide by them or they are able to be enforced adequately.
  5. - In this case your assumption would be correct. Cage drying can be done in several ways, and for a couple of reasons. The very sad thing is that it can be an excellent method of assisting drying for very elderly or extremely nervous dogs when hand drying them is stressful, and that does not mean blasting them with a constant stream of hot air up close for a long period or at temperatures that are dangerous and leaving them there to cook. If a dog is placed in an open cage and has air flow around it is possible to direct warm or room temp air around the dog whilst it is under the watchful eye of a responsible Groomer and minimise the time needed for table drying a stressed or elderly animal. Whilst good Groomers have various techniques for minimising the stress and easing animals through the grooming process there will always be a few animals do not cope well on the table, and we sometimes have to come up with ways of working around the animal Like the awful Buddy tragedy this was the result of human negligence. These incidents were not because cage drying or table restraints were used, they were due to human negligence and apparent contempt for the welfare of animals in their care.
  6. I would simply feed leaner meat, if she must have dry food can you hide it for her to find? and also try to encourage more play, would she play with you with a tug? Interactive toys that catch the attention of the dog often produce good results. Feed her meal in a treat dispenser that she has to work at to eat it. Lots of little adjustments can add up to more activity with less movement needed by you.
  7. Can you simply decant the shampoo, dilute the shampoo then put the diluted mix into the original bottle?
  8. The only product that has worked quickly and reliably during the current flea plague that we are seeing in our area is Comfortis. Although Capstar works very well for one off use if the animals have come in contact with a flea infestation whilst out and about, but if they are coming in contact with them daily you would be having to use it every second day. For infestation in your own home/yard treating the environment as well as all pets is the only solution.
  9. $4.99/kg in our regional Qld area, but since we don't have access to a poultry abattoir etc we have to suck it up
  10. There are many working breeds that are just fine in the right homes that are active outdoors people or involved in agility, obedience etc, the pet home that wants a yard ornament that lives outside with no interaction or training is not suitable for any breed.
  11. Grooming Arms are not the problem, irresponsible actions by individuals who left a dog unattended is the problem.
  12. I like the JW GRIPSOFT Double Row Undercoat Rake, one of the best I have used :)
  13. I would give him his wings as hard as it would be, and I know how very hard that decision is, sometimes it is simply the greatest gift we can give them.
  14. lamb breast cut into appropriate size portions is a good bone for that size dog a good chew without being too hard. I have never had a dog turn it's nose up at Liver, raw or cooked, I buy lots of liver for Lambs fry as we like it too and dogs and cats are quick to appear in the kitchen when it comes out of the fridge.
  15. Contact them directly for best response, they have a very busy business a probably don't get to DOL as much as us. The Health Booster is an excellent addition to any homemade diet and my dogs have all found it very palatable if that helps, but I don't have fussy dogs :)
  16. Any Vets I have worked for have always had staff popping in and out during the night. Some animals require the quiet and undisturbed rest that they may not receive at home, there can be many reasons why a hospital stay is better than home, and not all areas have access to a 24hr clinic.
  17. No, the ticks won't drown, you need to remove them.
  18. I would take whatever steps were needed to protect my dog from the crazy dog hating neighbour, if it meant debarking then so be it. Compared to a bait tossed over the fence or continual stress caused by harassment from a crazy person debarking is nothing.
  19. Heavy concrete troughs here for outside use, they can be paddled in without fear of ever breaking. I have 3 in the yard for the big dogs, and a clam shell for the swimmers. Inside and in runs for those times they need to be locked up I have very large good quality stainless steel dishes.
  20. Having worked in the Veterinary Industry for many years, I could add lots to this thread but it is pointless, people are happiest believing they are being ripped off. I know of no other professional service provider where the overheads are as high as the Vet Industry, apart from maybe the huge new generation super medical clinics that provide in house diagnostics etc. The monthly drug bills alone would astound most reasonable people yet people still expect cheap or free. After all the years of university and the costs involved in trying to run a practice Vets deserve to make some profit yet people still don't like to pay for the time and professional service Vets provide.. Tradesmen are payed for their labour, why do people begrudge a Vet?
  21. Just because all your dogs before this one have done well on one brand of food doesn't mean that it is suiting this dog. If her coat is crap there is a reason, if she is not in need of worming I would look at her diet and your grooming technique. A good coat is a reflection of a dogs well being, and a good diet is the basis of that :) Omega Blend oil from Vets ALL Natural is excellent, they also sell Flaxseed Oil. I rotate Omega Blend and Coconut Oil.
  22. Had them here just recently on a youngster, he had them in his ear and they grew to fill his outer ear, we removed them them and they came back, removed them again and they came back so we cauterized them at time of castration and that and maturity did the trick. Litter mate had them in his mouth. They are viral, and tend to appear after an immune system event in young animals, in this we think case vaccination. Horrid looking things. Until this I hadn't heard of them for many years.
  23. Great Rugs do some VERY tough beds, mine are still going strong many years later, the dogs they were originally purchased for are long gone.
