She catches as well as my Harper... lol! Seriously, some dogs just missed out on the catching flying things gene, didn't they? Awesome photos of a gorgeous girl doing her best... you can't say she's not giving it her best shot, right? T.

Hello gorgeous!! She certainly is a complete stunner FM - do you show her at all? T.

What Colour Do Your Dogs Eye's Shine At Night?
tdierikx replied to teekay's topic in General Dog Discussion
I reckon a study should be done into this topic. My belief is that dogs that see the full spectrum of colours will shine red, and those with colour-blindness (like red/green issues in people) will shine the more regular greeny-blue. Could be tested on humans with colour blindness too... T. -
I'd love to be able to take one of my dogs to work - even just for a day... but we have a couple of people in the office who have a deathly fear of dogs, so I think it would be a no-go... *sigh* Zeddy would be perfect for work though - she just lies around like an ornament all the time anyways... T.

Thanks dandybrush and ozsomerset... it's bad enough that the little tackers had to get their wings, but the biggest kick in the guts is the fact that I can't foster any more pups for a minimum 12 months. They were due to get their first vaccinations on Saturday... *sigh* Oh - and a word of warning... this Parvo they contracted is one of the new strains - they don't get any vomiting until it's too late, and the stool doesn't have that distinctive smell of "regular" Parvo. It seriously looked just like coccidosis until the Parvo test came back positive. T.

All of mine would rather be on the couch than doing anything strenuous... and they aren't Geryhounds either... ... but Stan definitely sounds like my kind of lazybones dog for when I retire or get too old and decrepit to have something active... lol! T.

It's also funny how many Rotti, Dobe, or Huntaway crosses there are in country pounds... most of them are actually Kelpie crosses people! Some pounds classify anything brindle as being "staffy" cross. I think that maybe anyone tasked with the job of attempting to identify breeds or breed mixes of impounded dogs really needs to do a course in same... T.

Anything tan or fawn with a dark muzzle HAS to be a Mastiff, right? Seriously though - my horse puppy wasn't all that big when she was 6-8 weeks old either - absolutely no idea she was a Dane cross until about 12 weeks when she really "blossomed"... she's well over 30kgs now at 9 months, and still growing (slower now thank dog). Country Pound Pups - 15 Of Them! 18 Now
tdierikx replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Kismet has a new home in Canberra, and Gaia is going to Adelaide... yay for the babies!!! T. -
No more fostering puppies because of the parvo LG... I could keep the babies separate from my girls, but the granny flat has rough wooden floors, and the puppy yard pen has a grassed area - both impossible to completely eradicate parvo from in any quick amount of time. On the upside, Harper and I went down to watch Katdogs and Stevie at obedience training today, and Harper behaved herself well for a 35 kilo going through her 9 month fear stage puppy. She even sat like a pro for the head trainer... wish she'd do that for me! T.

Thank you mita... T.

I've seen the poo, and I reckon it's the pen ink rather than the playdoh... it seems to have run it's course now, and poos are back to normal - as Sammy so admirably demonstrated while I was there... *grin* T.
-
Thanks LG... I'm having a "me" day today... steeling myself for the cleanup of granny flat and puppy yard pen... *sigh* No more puppy fosters for me for at least 12 months... I think I'll take Harper down to dog training this afternoon and see how she handles herself... errr! T.

Thanks all... I know they won't be suffering, and have such wonderful company at the Bridge... we will meet again when it's my turn, I'm sure. T.

Here's hoping that it's something simple that will resolve easily. Please give Tess an extra kiss and cuddle from me every day until you get the results... T.
-
Thank you Chequeredblackdog... I'm a bit shellshocked, but I know that my beloved Woosie will be keeping an eye on them all at the Bridge. Look for the 7 new bright little stars in the sky tonight, OK? T.

I've just got back from the rescue's vet clinic. My local vet tested the sick pup for Parvo and it came back a strong positive. He was a very sick little man with no chance of survival according to my local vet, so we gave him his wings. Went home and bundled the rest of the babies into the car and headed off to the rescue's regular vet to test them all... all came back strong positive for Parvo. The decision was made by the rescue committee in consultation with the vet that all of the puppies be given their wings. Sometimes rescue can be heartbreaking... T.

The black and tan boy isn't looking great to be honest - I think it will come down to his ability to fight off whatever's going on (does not look to be more than worms and coccidia - poos don't have "that" smell) - he's not a well boy right now. Sneaky Face is the other boy looking a little flat, so he's going to the vet with his brother to nip it in the bud before he declines any further. He's just a little lethargic, but drinking fine so far, and is nicely hydrated. The other boy just looks at the water more often than drinking from it. The other 5 are looking fine, if a little wormy - which should sort itself out now that they've been wormed. They will be getting Baycox tomorrow to make sure that coccidia is not an issue. Off to the vet now... will update when I get back. T.

I spoke too soon... one of the black and tan boys isn't feeling too well. We're off to the vet soon to see what can be done to make him feel better. So far looking like heavy worm burden and possibly coccidia as well. He's had a half dose of worming syrup, and will lap water a little, but not enough to my liking. He's drooling a fair bit like he's got an upset tummy, so hoping the vet will give him something for the nausea and we'll go from there. Just checked the other 6 and 5 are running about demanding attention, but the black and tan boy with the white face markings is a little flat too... he was ok earlier, if a little drowsy... will take him along to the vet with the other boy just in case. He's much better hydrated than the other pup, but things can go down hill quickly when they are this young. Funnily enough, the spriteliest pups are the ones that looked really runty when they arrived... go figure? T.

Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter
tdierikx replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Funnily enough, I'm of the belief that MA and his attention seeking tactics will self implode sooner rather than later... and not necessarily due to poking by Snook and Jo. You girls have started the ball rolling - many others are starting to question now... let THEM keep it going or you both may lose yourselves in this saga. T. -
I think a well earned kip for both of you is in order... spooning in a nice warm bed under the doona should do the trick... Glad to hear he's OK... and hope that you find out what is making him sick. T.

Hoping Ziggy is just fine today and just gave you a scare... C'mon Ziggy, get better mate! T.

Hard to tell how big they may get or what exactly may be the breed mix really. As I said before, my Harper was not much bigger than these guys at the same age, and she suddenly grew very tall... turned out to have Dane in her mix... *grin* These pups are doing ok so far - will be worming them today, and they will have a prophylactic dose of Baycox tomorrow just to cover all bases. We have a couple with sloppy poops, but nothing alarming, and all are active and playful, eating and drinking fine. T.
