  1. Ziggy was probably reacting more to the "bloody bugger" voice than the action that went with it... possibly he thought that he'd done something to warrant being told off? Dogs are funny things... I have one who absolutely hates her feet being touched, but has never had an incident that we had to handle a sore foot - another sometimes acts like she's about to cop a beating, but has never been hit... dogs just are methinks... *grin* T.
  2. My tactic with pet shops is to talk quietly to people who look like they may be going to impulse buy a "cute" pup... I tell them some stories about the dogs we've had through our rescue, then tell them that there are heaps of rescue dogs/pups available through petrescue.com.au - at a MUCH cheaper price and with all vetwork, etc, done... Atlas

I heard this song on the radio on my way home from work, and I burst into tears and thought of you and Atlas... The lyrics/chorus say it all better than I ever could. Run free sweet Atlas... T.
  4. Loopy Lu and Pickles was a disaster waiting to happen - they did not like each other one bit. Pickles went into "I'm not having you here" mode and wouldn't let up. As Lu is somewhat larger and more agile than Pickles, I could see some serious injuries on both parts if allowed to run together. Seeing as I already have 2 of my own dogs separate from each other, I'm not really into having another dog here just to separate it from the pack. Lu has gone back to the rescue, and will be having some intensive one-on-one training and socialising... and I was half tempted to leave Pickles there for some training too... grrr! All is not lost though - I did bring home another foster... a 4.5 month old Lab cross who Pickles seems to think is a much better prospect... *sigh* T.
  5. She seems to like being called Loopy Lu... haha! Just had her out in the yard with Zeddy. Zeddy is pretty laid back with new arrivals, has a sniff and then does her own thing. We can definitely call it a success - Lu and Zeddy shared the back yard fine while I was doing the poo patrol - and Lu even tried to initiate play with Zeddy. Pickles is going to be a different story methinks - she's a bit of a pushy bitch and thinks she is the top dog. Lu might also be a bit big to play with Pickles, who likes to play rough, but has her mobility issues to contend with. Also because she has erratic movement, it can confuse some other dogs because they have difficulty reading her body language. T.
  6. She's a lovely girl... silly as a 2-bob watch just like any other 6 month old pup, but very smoochy with people. Very leery about other dogs in her own size range or larger. Wasn't overly fazed at any of the loose smaller dogs at the rescue - but none of them actively approached her either. She has a healing scab/scratch on her head that may have been caused by another dog? Only going by her reaction to my dogs approaching her for this supposition - she also could have got it running through a farm fence or a bush branch scratching her there. There are no other injuries fresh or old. At the moment I'm calling her Loopy Lollylegs or Loopy Lu - seriously, she has legs any dancer or runner would be proud of... lol! T.
  7. OK - here are some pics... any guesses at breed mix? The last one is jumping up to me - I'm 5'7"-ish... and the one before that is with Lillypilly - she's about 5'3" T.
  8. She is quite happy to be crated - settled just fine, and not a peep from her at all. I will try more introduction today and see how she goes. I really think she's had little interaction with other dogs, and once she realises mine are no threat, she may settle OK. She's really quite sweet in all other respects, but a little confused at all the changes in her short life so far. We took some pics yesterday at the rescue, and I'll post some once I've loaded them to the computer and sorted out the wheat from the chaff... T.
  9. My fosters get fed Bonnie kibble - the same as my own dogs get. Easily swapped for Supercoat if the new owner wants to buy supermarket kibble. All fosters are crated in my bedroom at night - they settle faster that way. My own dogs sleep on my bed. Couch cuddles is a big part of my fosters' routine - but only when invited. My dogs also have their own couch - they aren't allowed on mine unless invited. Some fosters will steal your heart completely - it's not only the first one you will fall in love with and want to keep yourself. When you do find the perfect home for them though, it's all worth it. (Note: I "failed" with foster #45 - I adopted her myself... *grin*) Toilet training and basic obedience are very much appreciated by any prospective new owner - I also like to socialise my fosters with other animals and people too. I have a few friends with dog savvy cats, and they get to meet my fosters and put them into line... lol! T.
  10. Well - this "little" miss is certainly not a Whippet cross, and not 4 months old either. Her teeth indicate that she's finished at least her first teething stage, so she'd probably be around 6 months old. And the fact that she's already the height of a fully grown Whippet - with obviously more growing to do judging by her feet and wrists - I'm thinking she's most likely a Greyhound cross. She looks very Greyhound in shape except for her ears. She is great with people - especially if you have treats - instant best friend forever... lol! She also takes the treats very gently without any snapping. She is not so sure about my lot, so far she's growled and lunged at Pickles and Zeddy, and won't go near Trouble at all. I'm reserving judgement until tomorrow though, as we did arrive home late and she hasn't had much time to settle properly. She growled at me when I patted her while she was eating too, but I think that can be fixed pretty easily. I have her in a huge crate in my lounge room right now, and my girls have been going in and bumping noses with her every now and then with no growling from either party - so hoping she'll settle and get into the swing of things soonish. She doesn't mind the crate at all, and has settled down for a sleep. She travels brilliantly in the car - no vomiting or whining - always a big plus. T.
  11. It's not only Adelaide councils that won't come unless the animal is "restrained or contained"... there are some in Sydney who are exactly the same - don't want to actually have to look for and catch the stray themselves. T.
  12. Maybe Plan B's behaviourist can be put in touch with sas's behaviourist - then they can discuss together what they each assessed in this dog... and why... Much as I love the big boofers, if there is any worry at all about his predictability or nature, I'd be very leery about taking him on... T.
  13. Who says you can't train yer other halves... lol! Big thumbs up to yours from me! He's a keeper... T.
  14. What I love about my local vet is that they get really excited if I bring them a sample to test for things they don't see very often... like coccidia... The joys of having foster pups... lol! ... and the fact that my dogs, no matter how sick or injured they may be, go into raptures of delight as soon as they see their 2 fave vets... sometimes it's hard to explain that they weren't feeling very well at all when we left home... *grin* T.
  15. I started going to my local vet the very first day I moved here... the bloody dogs had a fight and one needed treatment. They were awesome from day one, and I recommend them to anyone who asks. My dogs only see the 2 vets that have known them since they were pups, because that is my preference and I have a great rapport with those particular 2 vets. The clinic is now owned by Greencross, but the staff are all the same caring and wonderful people we've gotten to know over the years. They also will do consults for my fosters for free if I need something. My rescue fosters normally use Rossmore Vets - and they are awesome - all of the staff are brilliant with our rescue dogs, and the senior vets are amongst the best surgeons I've come across in general practice. T.
  16. Can people attend with a camera instead of a dog? I've always wanted to try to get shots of sighthounds running... T.
  17. I'm a sucker for a funky pair of ears and pound dog eyes... lol! ... and I really love the brindle babes... T.
  18. Run free and healthy sweet Penny... Esky - Penny will always live forever in your heart and memories. The biggest hugs to you and yours from me and mine... T.
  19. She will be coming to my place on saturday... and apparently is a bit bigger than indicated in that picture... Not to worry, she won't be as big as my largest puppy foster ever - he was 35kgs at 7 months, and fit into my pack just fine. T.
  20. What a handsome little man! Simply gorgeous... T.
  21. I get to choose my own fosters... I know what my dogs and myself can handle, and have excellent backup from my coordinator. T.
  22. Nahhhh... I reckon he's just Gorgeous X Handsome... nuff said... *grin* Definitely another one of those extremely rare "Cuddlehounds"... T.
