  1. Would you continue to have volunteers doing the heavy lifting while you spend money on lawyers trying to get back something done by another volunteer? I agree that it's nice if people working for charities got paid. But it does start to cause conflicts of interest. Some charities are better at managing the perceived conflicts and actual ones than others. That's when you start to look at the percentage of income (donations) that go to caring for and placing dogs vs that which goes on admin and lawyers. I can think of at least one large animal welfare organisation that spends more on legal and advertising than on what they say they are all about... meanwhile utilising a huge volunteer workforce to do the heavy (and often heartbreaking) work on the ground... T.
  2. NSW has the Companion Animal Register - for microchip details, AND local council animal registration fees. The OP will also need to make sure that both are in their name, and current. The breeder, if interstate, is not responsible for either of those... T.
  3. In simple terms, the breeder has paid her state ANKC member body to register the litter of pups her dog(s) have had... and what you now need to do is to transfer that registration into your own name and with your state ANKC member body. The breeder most likely submitted all of her litter registration paperwork to her state body some weeks prior to getting them all back... the process can take some time to get it all checked and issued by the state body, and that's why the registration papers have a later date on them. The breeder has not misled you, or tried to rip you off... T.
  4. I think people should maybe stop and think about exactly what it has taken to build PetRescue into what it is today. 1. It is a resource provided for FREE to rescue organisations. 2. A lot of time and resources (which WE haven't had to pay anything for) have been put into getting the word out to the public about this one-stop site to find a rescue pet. 3. Most, if not all, of the startup and development of this resource was done by people on a volunteer basis. They may be reaping financial reward now, but the early years would have been very lean indeed... 4. PetRescue owns the resource, therefore THEY get to set out the terms of its use. Rescues still have a CHOICE whether they want to use this resource to list their animals available for adoption... we are all free to go about it on our own... *grin* T.
  5. Ummm... she's plenty happy with him in other areas so far... lol! T.
  6. Is Sandali as laid back and politically popular as his Taronga brothers? T.
  7. Check out those ears!! But he's still an incredibly handsome little dude, isn't he? I think he looks a bit like Sudi at Taronga... it's the cheeky face... which is interesting 'cos they share some of the same genetics, yes? Sudi being Sandali's little nephew and all... *grin* T.
  8. It's a pity that this has happened, as Shel is so passionate about, and has put so much research and effort into the Saving Pets project... I may not agree with how PetRescue is modeled or run, but it's still the largest and most well known resource for people to use to find a rescue pet. I may not agree with all of Shel's Saving Pets project tenets, but it's still early days there, and I reckon if anyone has a chance of making it work, Shel is the woman for the job. I believe there is room for both projects to run separately, each refining and strengthening their models... to make positive changes for pound/rescue animals in need. T.
  9. Don and Pudden... my fave boys... *sigh* T.
  10. OMG!!! She IS teeny tiny! ... but also dreadfully cute... *grin* T.
  11. ... goes out to the yard for a midnight snack on poo... then comes back and burps poo breath in my face. Harper and Pickles... I'm looking at you! T.
  12. My friend is feeding it to her 2 dogs - the low fat one - and they aren't losing weight... lol! Probably because she's also giving them My Dog tinned slops with it... *sigh* T.
  13. She has her Mum's eyes, doesn't she? ... and her naughty puppy antics remind me of some of the things her Mum got up to not that long ago too... lol! T.
  14. Awww... she is too cute for boots! T.
  15. Of those who have read the articles about this... who else sees the irony in the name of the rescue? T.
  16. Are you asking about if the buyer can't take a pup they've put a deposit on... or if the breeder has unforseen problems? T.
  17. Poor form if a breeder (or anyone for that matter) sells a mains registered pup with a genetically transmissible fault... T.
  18. and so they should... you take absolutely stunning photos Kirislin... T.
  19. Awww... is Don... is good! The love for his human still shines bright in those eyes... such a lovely boy... T.
  20. It can be done... dog knows, many people have managed it over the years - even "novices"... we all have to start somewhere, yes? I was 19 when I left home and got my first really truly my very own dog... and if I'd asked here first, I may well have been shot down in flames... *grin* Thankfully back then, we didn't have internet forums to ask permission from... *sly grin* The only thing you really want to take into deep consideration is the probable lifespan and life changes your chosen breed (or mix) will likely have... and how you are going to stick with it through all that time... T.
  21. It's good, but not 100% accurate, as only vets who have signed up and actually enter data when they have cases is counted. It will give a fairly accurate idea of where disease hotspots are though... Not a bad initiative run by one of the companies that sells the vaccines IMHO. T.
  22. Patience will be the key... Your Lab is still a puppy herself... I'd wait at least another 12 months before adding a puppy to the family - especially a smaller breed. My Lab girl was a shocker when she was young - her name is Trouble for a reason - but she started to grow a brain at around 2 years of age. I wouldn't have trusted her with a small breed pup before then... or any pup for that matter... *grin* For what it's worth, Trouble ended up helping me foster and raise around 200 rescue puppies over the years. As naughty as she was as a pup, she has turned out to be damned near bombproof as an adult and an awesome dog all around. In the meantime, work on her obedience training and continue with controlled exposure to playing with other dogs. My Lab was expelled from group obedience training, so don't despair that yours is taking a bit of time to get the drift... it WILL happen, OK? Maybe limit the amount of rough play YOU have with her, as she needs to learn that it's not OK to bite, scratch, or jump all over people... you want her to learn control over her own boisterousness. T.
  23. Nothing quite like nursing a pet through parvo.... Yep. Or euth'ing them in a vet clinic or shelter. I got out of rescue after having to hold each pup of a 6 week old litter that had to be euthed because of parvo... it's soul destroying... It's taken me some years to get back into rescue (of a sort) T.
  24. I bought my old girl a bed with higher sides to stop any draughts... she loved it... T.
