  1. My latest CR order arrived today Now I just need a puppy to make good use of the book Need to also make a start on Millie's 2x2 weaves now that her special toy has arrived! Hope she likes it. Oh and need to teach some whistle direction for retrieving with my new purple whistle :D Yes, hearing my package arrived has been the highlight of my otherwise boring day
  2. This is video of someone who re trained from a 2on/2off dw to a running dw. Interesting Being so new to agility, I still don't know how to handle contacts correctly. I've attemtped to try 2o2o, and my progress to date is that Millie knows she has to stop somewhere down the end, so she tears up and across it, then slows on the way down almost to a crawl and offers a 4o Not pretty! I'd like to learn how to teach a proper running contact as the speed is impressive, but no idea how! Maybe I need to attend this seminar
  3. Perth is hosting Daisy Peel in May next year. She has a successful running contact and will be covering running contacts at her seminar. http://www.daisypeel.com/?page_id=172 Here are more details for Daisy's seminar. Follow the link.. http://www.agilityclubwa.com/ Followed your links, found her youtube channel, found this gem http://www.youtube.com/user/cflyrun#p/u/7/oJmlvoZNNoI
  4. OK so I understand the gist of a 2o2o contact, and thought I knew what a running contact meant but from the posts here, apparently not Can someone please explain the difference between a true running contact and a dog just running through its contact? Thanks
  5. The horses share Buster's birthday Thanks for the wishes, guys Got your text while driving this morning Candice, thanks Retrieving training was good. I had the thrower (and it's operator/teacher ) to myself for a little bit before some others joined us so got 4 nice runs in. Ruby did the longest retrieve she's done (on land) to date I'm chuffed with her steadiness and the speed at which she bolts out for it and today her confidence grew to the point she could go far and get over a slight obstacle and continue to hunt I really need to work on her holds, though, she isn't as solid at holding as she is in her dumbell retrieve exercise. I've got a bit of "homework" to do on that
  6. Well done xena98 on Gabby's OC and all your other wins!! :D Even though Ness didn't get her first UD pass, I think the old girl still needs congratulating, almost there!!! Amypie, get in here and spill your news! Where was my text?
  7. What is this behave paste stuff??? Sounds interesting!
  8. If anyone is interested, there is a job on Seek at the moment for a kennel hand for quarantine. Get in there, get that job, and make a difference to these poor confined dogs lives!!! Edit: I can't believe that the dogs are not given free run unless you're there to do it yourselves
  9. Ruby: She has her CD title :D We gained two 1st places and one 2nd place. It took us about 6 months to get there because she would always mess up a single exercise like the SFE or bloomin' sit stay! But we got there in the end! Open trialling is definitely on the agenda this year. I will not be extending my goal of any CDX passes this year, though, I don't think she's quite there yet, but we will get out there and give it a good shot anyway! ;) Millie: 2 CCD trials down so far, with 2 passes and 2 first places :D One more to go, and we have quite a few trials left in the year yet so I am quite confident we will pull off this goal by the end of 2010. I just hope I haven't jinxed us now!!!
  10. WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Congratulations!!!! That is AWESOME!!! But definitely not surprised Well done
  11. Good girl, Coco!! I think they sense the urgency of our recall sometimes and know we aren't kidding I've had a few of those moments But it reminds me I need to train a better every day recall. They are quite good, but not 100%
  12. Yep mine do it too after eating bones, especially chicken. I've never noticed mine do it - so you can bet that I will be on the lookout for it now!
  13. So dogs can transfer between NZ and Oz no problems?
  14. Aww bugger, 9pm is a bit too late when I have work in the morning
  15. I think that is to be an Orientation and Mobility Instructor (which I hear pays more than Guide Dog Trainers). Guide Dog Trainers can be recruited internally or on occasion, through cadetships. But the competition is fierce. Yeah that is the name of the course! Unless it has changed since I last checked, you needed to be an Orientation and Mobility Instructor to be a Guide Dog Trainer as you have to teach the new owners and transition them to using a Guide Dog as well. And be well versed in other mobility aids such as canes etc. Just being a dog trainer was not enough. You have to be able to deal with the people too. I've looked into it, too, and nope you don't need to have done that qualification to apply for a guide dog trainer cadetship. An O&M instructor from my understanding is different to a Guide Dog trainer. O&M work with people and match the trained dogs up with their new partner (plus of course a whole range of other things!) Guide Dog trainers do just that, train the dogs (and other things too ). Then I think there is a Guide Dog Instructor, which supervises the trainers and probably does a bit of O&M work too? It's all very complicated But maybe someone here who has worked with guide dogs can let us know? :p Edit: because I wanted to write that a bit clearer!

  17. +1 My girl trains beautifully. Get her in the ring and depending on the day and her mood, it's a complete different story I could put up a video of her on the same day - one video a trial, one video training a couple of hours later, and you would see the difference My dogs are my faithful household companions first and foremost, and I won't ever sacrifice them being a close part of my life and them getting to do fun "doggy" things just to have a better chance at earning a few extra ribbons
  18. Ohh so you'll be doing rally at 8pm? I might tag along then
  19. I thought he looked just about ready to enter CCD at the Royal
