:D Some really nice brags in here! Way to go Kenzie, did you get it on video? LP - Kinta did really well She might not have been looking at you at the start post but the second you took off, her attention on you was lovely! I wish Ruby would snap to attention like that as we take off, instead, she drops her head Congrats to all the other brags

Any takers on what to try for this one? I'm suffering from this one too as you know. Just lots of reinforcement at the start peg is a good start. Ness is into her food isn't she Sal? You could line her up at the start peg and as soon as she voluntarily gives you attention, jackpot and end the session. Another session, line her up and have someone approach to take your lead to replicate a trial situation best as you can, and use a word such as "ready" or "yes" for when the judge asks if you're ready, and when she looks at you using that word, treat. Treat a few times. I'm currently trying this with Ruby and her attention at the start peg in a trial has improved dramatically. Still a work in progress but I can definitely see results already

Hey we could have a doggy dancing routine at this rate - a step to the right by beans and a step to the left by Snaz - sounds like the hokey pokey Ruby can join in with the shake it all about bit ;)

Thanks I was just so so thrilled that she stayed with me and didn't run off, which is what we had been training for leading up to the State/Nationals weekend. But when I received her score and then saw it on video, I was even more over the moon as it was just the icing on the cake that she gave me that much focus and attention! Oh and it was the first (and only) time so far she didn't miss a position! :D -

I watch Ptolomy in awe and do use it as my inspiration! It's nice to see such a good example giving you a clear picture of the direction you want to head in -

Loving Scoota and Beans' videos, they are great little workers Hmm yes, I tend to do everything quickly so I am going to try and make a conscious effort to SLOOOOW DOOOOOWN at my next trial! Hopefully it will help Ruby out in knowing what comes next, and to stop her looking at me like "huh? come again?" when I give her a down signal that she apparently has never seen before in her life :p :D Yes please! I won't be greedy, hold the fries if I can just bottle that heelwork and get a decent SFE! -

Yep! WA State Trial Sure she started off wide, but once she got herself back on track she worked her little booty off and I just WISH for another round like this one! Well, at least until we can be as good as you and Scoota that is :p But for now, I am super happy with what she gave me in this video that I'd give anything to have it each and every time! -
Plans For The 2009 Christmas Break
RubyStar replied to ness's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'll be working on Ruby's SFE and working more on Millie, getting her ready to start trialling. I guess it's just business as usual for me, except I won't have the training grounds and their lights to use! Lots of shopping centre and local park work -
Obedience Competitors
RubyStar replied to Staff'n'Toller's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I know this can't be done in Open and beyond, but if a dog breaks it stay to get up and visit another dog and the steward is doing nothing about it or being slow to react, I would be in there like a shot to remove my dog. Not sure if this is "allowed", but I think it is good etiquette. I had a dog next to Ruby get up and approach her in the down stays, and the owner kindly went and got her dog away from mine. Ruby's tail was wagging big time, ready to get up and take on the invitation to play, but held that down so very well -
Novice is gonna be fun with a conformation judge and Ruby's dodgy SFE! No way she is going to stand still for a "proper" going over! I'll try get Millie ready for CCD for the Classic

Yep there is It's been advertised in the Canine News, and yeah you'd need to become a Dogs West member to submit your entries because you need your membership number on there. Oooh that reminds me, I need to find out about my renewal, I'm pretty sure my year is up already and I haven't received anything about renewing my membership! I'd hate to get a pass and find out it's invalid cos my membership wasn't renewed

2010 Training/title/goals Wish List
RubyStar replied to Seita's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Well I achieved my 2009 goals for Ruby :D (CCD title and to give Novice a go). I had 2 goals for Millie, one being entering her in CCD and the other having her pick up a dumbell. Pleased to report the dumbell goal is achieved, but due to me dedicating most of the end of the year to getting Ruby ready for Novice, Millie didn't quite make it to the ring because I don't want to rush her on the little training I've given her. So my wishlist for 2010! Ruby: I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I want her CD title by the end of the year! And I don't want to do it by just scraping through, I'm aiming for some half decent scores So this means I need to find a solid SFE from somewhere Guess I'm gonna have to train for that one! I also aim to have her ready for Open, but I'm not actually aiming to enter Open in 2010. If I do, that is just a bonus Millie: I aim to put the time and effort into her again and get her CCD title in 2010. I also wish for Millie's health to stay good after our little cancer scare this year, and for her to not destroy my new garden when we move in shortly! (out of all my goals, this last one is going to be the hardest to achieve!) -
2009 Training/title Wish List
RubyStar replied to Ptolomy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've had a pretty good year I guess, considering I only trialled half of it! We managed Ruby's CCD title on the 1st May in three successive trials (failed the first though due to a drop in her sit stay ), then took a break from the ring until October. She debuted in Novice at the WA State Trial and even though we didn't qualify (that pesky SFE!!), it was the BEST round she has ever given me and I couldn't be more pleased! Did a teensy bit of retrieving, but real life took over meaning I couldn't make it to Saturday lessons, so that one is on the backburner for whenever I feel like it again. Didn't get Millie ready for CCD, I spent most of my time on Ruby this year. However, we achieved the dumbell goal! That was a long road that one. A dog that wouldn't even touch the thing, to a dog who will now bring it back to me and from last night, she is now sitting in front of me with it on her return Now I just have to get her to hold it for a bit longer before taking it and tidy it up! As a bonus, I managed to teach both my girls scent discrimination. Was shocked at how quickly Millie caught on! Of course, they both need perfecting with it big time :p Couldn't be happier with what my girls have achieved this year when they have such a novice trainer to contend with! -

I went to update my progress in this thread last night but couldn't, so asked Troy to revive it for us I'll update my results tonight when I get some time (or if I can sneak back on my lunch break ) -
Will I get to see the vid tomorrow night? I will do a deal 6.30 in the car park tomorrow night :D This sounds like a dodgy deal or something I'll bring the suitcase in exchange for the video

I want Cider, scream and all

Awww geez you get to see it before me!! How'd that happen? No fair! I need to see it to believe it, it felt like she was wide the whole time. But I know from past experience that it most of the time feels worse than it really is cos you can't see your dog! Will I get to see the vid tomorrow night?

Congrats, DSO!!! It makes you just as excited as passing though doesn't it, when they do so so well in everything else! Just one little mishap that can be worked on
