  1. So no marker word like "Dufus"?????? Anybody else tried videoing some distraction work????? Rubystar maybe we need to video some of Ruby when she first gets out of the car if I am near and how you have managed to get her up to heeling around me?? I think that time was a fluke when she practically ignored you Did you feel unloved all of a sudden? But sure, next time we meet up to train, let's try it, she might surprise me! And if she fails, I can see how I handle it because you can't tell unless you take a step back and watch yourself. That last distraction game we played was great, with you guys bending down and calling her as I heeled past. Yes she failed a few times, but she was quick to understand the game and was really driving with her heelwork then She works best under distraction, go figure When there is no distraction, she gets bored and isn't driving. Still a work in progress to make that reliable for the ring, though!
  2. Insane is definitely right! That would be as boring at batpoop to a well trained dog and tedious to train, so as a measurement to pass an INTRODUCTORY obedience class, come on! Who is writing up the course guidelines here?! They need their head read! UD dogs aren't even required to do that. The longest length of a sit stay in competition is 3 minutes I believe?? (and down stay 7 minutes?) Someone correct me if I'm wrong. That's my 2 cents worth, anyway
  3. My birthday is New Year's Day I'm going to a party around the corner. Walk there, stagger home You share your birthday with my Ruby Just a bit of trivia that you didn't want to know :D
  4. Oh my :D I am so in love :D A beagle puppy is still high on my wish list for one day! I especially love the tan and white ones I even have her name picked out for when that one day arrives Can't wait to see more progress shots!! :D
  5. This is a bit off topic to the original post, but flowing on from the most recent discussion of having food on you possibly being the cue to work or give you good focused work. A tip I heard was start carrying food in your pocket all the time. Whether they're a beagle with a good nose or not a beagle, they can all smell that food whether you show it to them or not! (I've had a dog biscuit hiding in my room before I sent my girls in there to bed, and the second they walk in the room their noses are in the air, sniffing out every corner of the room! And it was a dry old one too, nothing too delicious!) Anyhoo, back on track, if you carry food around for most of the day, the dog gets used to it being on you and doesn't become such a big deal because it's like well I may get it, or I may not. It won't be the signal that says "ooh yes food in pocket, work time now cos I'll get paid!" I guess that kind of works in the reverse angle of having nothing on you and trying to get your dog to work without being bribed Not sure if any of that makes sense, it's hard to get out what I'm trying to say ;)
  6. I didn't even realise there were dogs barking in the videos until it was pointed out because my sound is always muted anyway! There's usually not a lot to listen to in obedience clips anyway, commands are too muffled to hear most of the time
  7. Then even more of an excuse to go out and drink with our dogs
  8. Daisy looks like she's coming along really well!!
  9. By the looks of it, there are a few people down at the grounds training that evening. Could be anyone's dog/s? I don't recall Sandi's tollers barking consistently like that, they're more high pitched anyway edit to add: don't watch any videos with my Millie in the background then
  10. Maybe next year if you're still living in SA, I'll have to come over and enter, just for something to do on NYE!
  11. Yeah same here, confirmation show on NYE - odd way to celebrate it but oh well. A few friends are going so will be the social thing as well - a few wines will be shared! Hey you'll be having more fun than me! NYE at a dog show or trial would be a great way to spend it in my books! There's no obedience trials here on NYE but I think there is a conformation show - if Ruby's breeder is going to that, I may just tag along with her and spend NYE at the dog show not even competing!! Either that or sit at home
  12. Some of us (and our dogs) find regular obedience fun, too! If Rally-O makes it to Perth I might come along for a looksee!
  13. I have "Step in Time" in my head now This is going to be a long afternoon at work now, I can just tell....
  14. That was awesome Sally!!! Way to go Kenzie! Her focus was great and looked like she had fun - when she debuts in obedience, watch out! She's going to be grrrreat!
  15. Woohoo!! Whose youtube account should I be stalking then?
  16. I could steal her video camera... Do it, do it, DO IT!!!! :D ;)
  17. WOOHOOOOOOOOO congrats, Sally and Kenzie!!!! Awwww come on, we don't have to wait until Tuesday to see the video, do we?!
  18. Wow, how old was she? Sounds like such a juvenile comment so I wouldn't worry, but if it was an adult, wow How ridiculous of some people. You said you got a nice comment too so just take that one away with you! I feel silly training in the park, too. We don't really have fenced dog parks here like over east, so I train in parks where kids and other dogs can be. But I tend to go at a time when we are the only ones in a park. If another dog does come by, I use that time to do some focus work or stays while standing near them. I do get people stopping and watching me from a distance, but I've never had bad comments. I usually get interested looks and a few people have asked if I can train their dogs for them It really is a great feeling to have my two Labradors focused on me or in a stay as other dogs come by, as we all know people think badly of the Labrador and public parks
  19. I wish we had an obedience trial here on NYE, I have no life so at least this way, I'd have something to do on NYE! We had our last one on Friday night. Too early in the year to finish up I say and now I have to wait til Feb I think for the next one!
