  1. That makes sense to me. NicB I was the one who initially said it almost looked like the dogs were playing, but I didn't think they were. I dont think Blackjaq meant they were either. Oso's description seems likely though. It was so strange for me to see dogs behaving like this towards a human.
  2. In case you haven't found it shapeshifter, here's the whippet thread in breed sub forums. Quite alot of photos in there too. :) http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/100087-all-things-whippet/
  3. good doggy, he has purposeful look on his face doesn't he.
  4. I'm trying to imagine what I would have done in that situation. I might have been too scared to get out of the car, I dont know, I think I would have driven the car up onto the foot path honking my horn, and tried to get close enough to scare the dogs and hopefully allow the man to get into the car, but who knows. I hope I'm never in such a situation to test it.
  5. you can see lots of other action shots here, this is all the albums so far. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Yarra-Valley-Whippet-Social-Racing-Club/172335819461281?sk=photos_albums
  6. that's a fairly uncommon colour here, it's a cream whippet. I dont think I've ever seen a pedigree cream in Australia, they've all been non peds I've seen. It's beautiful though isn't it.
  7. Lots of frolicking whippets here.
  8. here's my timid (not) whippets Puck and Tag IMG_8121dppt by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_2513tcs by kirislin, on Flickr
  9. I've never seen dogs attacking people before and watching that footage it isn't how I expected them to do it. I imagined there'd be more fast grabbing and shaking, but those dogs almost appeared as if they were playing. I dont for a minute think they were, I know the poor man suffered serious injuries, but the way one would tug a bit and then let go, it was strange, well it was to me, as I said, not how I imagined a dog attack. It would take a long time to die from being mauled the way he was, a slow painful death.
  10. I wonder if the person who took the footage got paid for it.
  11. completely but something I've noticed with some of your posts redangel. How come sometimes I see your siggy, like on the first post of this thread, but other times it doesn't come up, such as this one I've quoted.
  12. I have an assortment of temperaments here and both of what you've mentioned are represented in our household. It was the aloof type of whippet I fell in love with.
  13. I dont think originally whippets would have been bred to have outgoing temperaments. If I was poaching with a whippet the last thing I'd want is for it to go running up to farmer Brown for a pat and to say hello.
  14. Poor deerhound puppy, I think it's choking on that whippet. Why haven't you posted these photos before.
  15. that was beautiful. I found myself smiling as I watched it.
  16. I would guess the ones that are cheaper are probably from people who dont show their dogs, or perhaps from someone just starting out. They possibly haven't had to pay a stud fee either, they might own both parents. Most pedigree whippets have lots of champions in their lines, all mine do, but none are considered show quality. It doesn't mean their dogs are rubbish though, just possibly not show standard. We get some beautiful whippets at our fun days and most have been sold as pets because for some reason or other they weren't considered show potential. I know of breeders here in Vic who show alot and ask high prices for their pups, but to my eye, their dogs dont appeal to me at all. If you are looking for a pet, the normal rules apply, you should at least be able to see the mother of the pups, they should be raised in a healthy enviroment, on good food, have all their health checks, worming and at least first vaccination, and microchip. Even as a pet they are supposed to be sold with a pedigree certificate. $350 is very cheap though, I'd be wondering if they've raised them well, because I cannot see how you could get them to 8 weeks if you've fed them the best food, had all their vet work done etc for that price. Usually puppies come with a puppy pack (information and puppy food) and lifetime support too, which means if for some reason you cannot keep the dog, the breeder will take it back or help you find a new home. If the pups look dirty, skinny, bloated and lethargic run a mile. Usually, but not always, pedigree whippets have their dew claws removed. If you see a litter still with dew claws intact, they might be from non pedigree whippets.
  17. I used to ride my horse in that area when I lived in the Latrobe Valley. I really hope the person who shot the dog knew exactly what his target was.
  18. I saw this on TV and the same thought crossed my mind at the time. I thought at least one looked like its ears were cropped but I might be wrong.
  19. What a great story and such a good plug for Iggy Rescue!! Well done all.
  20. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/04/29/err_act_landgrab/ New legislation in the UK will allow anyone to use your photos as they wish unless you register them.
  21. I hope it's being clearly explained to them that they must never let another dog, if they get one, do the same thing. Keep it on a lead in a strange place, certainly dont let it out of their sight like they did with this poor puppy.
  22. The shooter was an arsehole, but the family made a terrible mistake and learnt a painful lesson.
  23. Never visited that thread, but thanks for letting me know.
  24. Only know Rappie from here ...but just want to say Rappie and Andrew Turner rock! :-) ..and so pleased to hear all is going so well. ET fix typo Yep, I only know her from here too, but with her and Andrew re assuring me to wait it gave me the support I needed to do just that. I saw her regular vet yesterday (for another matter) and told him about her eye and that I'd taken progress photos. I asked if he wanted them for his records and he said yes :D so I took some more yesterday just to show it now. I didn't have help to hold her head though and she wiggled about so they're not great but you can see well enough that the eye is healed.
