Can Dogs Legally Ride In The Front Seat Of A Car?
Kirislin replied to Willowlane's topic in General Dog Discussion
Maybe the cops would have been fine with it. Unless they were the ones that had cleaned up a mess caused by someone else doing it and it going wrong. It was a routine thing amoung racehorse trainers... to exercise their horses on public roads. And I think there might have been a couple of bad accidents because of it. I know there have been quite a few bike+dog horror crashes where the dog has crossed the path of the bicycle and wiped everybody out or run into traffic and pulled the cyclist with them. The rule has the feel of coppers who have seen it go wrong saying - this should be illegal. The endurance club in SA routinely uses bikes and leads to train endurance with their dogs... So generally the cops don't bother with enforcing it. They've probably got more important / urgent things to do like chase ice cooks. It's not something I'd normally do, but it was extraordinary circumstances and the middle of the night so no traffic around. -
Oh dear How did he cope?

a friend of mine has an IG that was well over 2 before she had her first season. My own whippet Feather (not a toy, I know) was over 2 years old before she had her first season while her litter sister was only 13 months when she first came in. Hopefully your little one is healthy, just a late developer.

Wow, big robust looking healthy Labs doing great work.

Can Dogs Legally Ride In The Front Seat Of A Car?

I've done this though. I led my mare from my car in the middle of the night at the time of the Black Saturday bushfires. I had her walking on the passenger side of the car with the lead rope coming through the passenger side window and I held it while I drove along at about 5 ks an hour. She loved it and was very well behaved. After a while 2 girls in a car came and offered me help and one rode her bareback the rest of the way tothe park. No coppers around but I suspect if they had turned up while I was doing it they would have helped me not booked me at that time. -
thanks all for Feathers birthday wishes. I'm sure she'd love a smoochy from handsome Stan too.

Looks like this is all I'm going to get of her today. My darling uncooperative girl. Birthday Girl by kirislin, on Flickr

It's my darling Feathers birthday today. She's now a teenager, 13 years old. Since her mother Kibah died just a couple of weeks before she reached 14 I thought I'd better make an extra special fuss of little Feathie today, so I'm roasting a Steggles chicken and all of us will enjoy roast chicken and veggies this evening. I wanted to take some pretty birthday photos of her too but I'm not so sure of pulling that one off. So far all I've managed is a shot of her on her favourite chair and it's no good. I had a brainwave thinking, I'll take her out in to the paddock. That's sure to animate her because she's never allowed out there, so I clip on her lead and start taking her towards the paddock gate. All the other dogs are keenly bounding around hoping they'll be allowed out there too, but little old Feathie was hanging back. I pulled her through the gate sure that as soon as she realised we were going for a walk she'd be really excited and interested in everything. I unclipped the lead and she stopped for a wee and then promptly turned and ran back to the gate to be let inside the yard again. I opened the gate and she hightailed it back inside the house. I suppose it's official, she's old. Once she would have loved the chance to go exploring in the paddock. And it looks like I wont be able to take a decent birthday photo of her either, although the day's not over yet, I'll keep trying, but it's her day and I wont be forcing her to do anything she doesn't want to.

I've had 4 entire bitches and I've never had entire males hanging around. Not to say it doesn't happen, but it's never been a problem here. That said, I was careful and observant to make sure none did turn up. I have one entire bitch now, and her last season turned out to be a bit of a worry because my 2 neutered males of a much bigger breed started showing interest in her because she was flaunting herself at them. That became a bit stressful as I feared the boys might start fighting each other and/or injure her if they mated with her.

Yes, it's gross and I've heard it can make dogs sick. I knew a woman who said her dog died of pancreatitis from eating cats poo. Not sure if it's true or not.

I think it depends on the individual dogs. I have a tiny 4.3kg Italian Greyhound and 2 big 17-18kg whippets who are very gentle with her but I didn't dare leave them unsupervised for probably the first year, although looking back, I could have, the boys have been amazing with her. When I first brought her home, she was absolutely tiny and the boys seemed to know they had to be gentle with her. Did you tick "breeder" on the form though? It does give you that option and you can indicate how many litters you breed. I dont recall seeing it but at the time I applied I had 5 desexed dogs and Neko wasn't even a twinkle in her mother's eye.

what's the name of your shire or council? I'm wondering how anyone in Vic gets permission to breed a dog now? Or do they all just flout the law?
-
Interesting, I've got my letter confirming I've renewed my multiple dog permit and in the conditions it states there must be no breeding or keeping of litters at the property! That's a new one I'm sure. I've got a registered prefix with Dogs Vic for the very reason that I might breed at some stage in the future. hmmm just checked my first letter from 2 years ago, I missed that it said it there as well. I must have missed it.

have you got a little put put?

Nope definitely not all females. They often leave part and you can tell it used to have a penis once. This years cover has a once upon a time male. -
I think you might too. A lady came up to me and said she'd contacted me ages ago to ask if she could use a photo of Neko on Pinterest (the line dancing pic) I dont recall her asking but it was good that she did ask permission, most people just take, anyway, she was pretty happy to meet her in the fur.

The Challenge: Who's Got The Fastest Dog In Australia?
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm so glad you all enjoyed it. It's the first competition our club's run, we're purely a social fun club so it was new for us but I think it went relatively smoothly apart from the lure starting to die near the end. I was hoping we'd be able to offer fun runs at the finish but the lure said no to that. We bought that lure about 6 or 7 years ago and it's never skipped a beat, wouldn't you know it would have to start playing up on the day of our first competition, but it must have driven many hundreds of kilometres for us so it's served us very well till now. It's getting a new button and some wiring now. -

I'll see if I can get my friend to photograph some examples. It's pretty bizarre. -
Do all breeds suffer the indignity that male Italian Greyhounds have to endure to have their photograph in a Brown Trout calendar? They have their penises removed. I haven't looked at any other breeds but I suspect whippets would get the chop too. I think it's perverse and would refuse to buy one but I have a friend who gets one every year and we have a laugh about the poor eunuch Iggies.

there's some in my little town. They're massive, and very soft!!

If anyone wants to look at last years results from around the country have a look at this facebook link. Bear in mind that last years was over 120mts though, not 100mts as it was this year. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1399559963621860/photos/
