aah me and my stupid honest nature. Damage caused by pets isn't covered. I should've lied.

Thanks Hankdog, yes my whippets are gourmands. I appreciate the suggestions here. I dont believe I'd ever be able to get it out of the underfelt but I'll try the kitty litter. I just plonked a big piece of brown paper over it for now so the dogs dont troop the oil all over the house, well, anymore than they probably already have. I might make one of those public shaming notices and make Pucky wear it while I take his photo beside his handy work and publish it for the world to see. Bad Pucky!! I was worried about him so let him sleep on my bed over night. He ate last nights dinner for brekky this morning and seemed pretty enthusiastic about it. I just hope he doesn't get pancreatitis, that is still my worry. I dont know if it would come on immediately or in a few days. Anyone know? Oh and thankyou Riley James for suggesting house insurance, I've been insured for 16 years and never made a claim, it didn't even occur to me!

as the title says, I'm glad I dont rent this place. I've been out most of the day and come home to find Tag and Puck have got a 2 litre cask of OLIVE OIL!! and torn it open and spilt it on my carpet!! A great big oily puddle that I haven't even tried to start cleaning up because I've no idea where to start. The house is over 30 years old and the carpet would be the same age. I think I'll just have to pull it up. I'm also concerned about Puck because he didn't want his dinner which is unheard of. I rang the vet and asked if I should make him vomit and he said no because it's probably too late and there's a danger of aspirating into his lungs. I'm worried about pancreatitis. Oh they also got onto the dining room table and stole the tomatoes and then sicked them up on the carpet too! I dont know what came over them today.

I cannot comprehend why they would do this and then, why they can get away with it.

These are AMAZING!!!!!! Wonderful photos everyone. That head on of the cocky CC How the hell did you manage that! It looks like an attack cocky. And the pelicans on the water, there's always something so tranquil looking about them. I'm envious of the raptor shots too.

Recommendations For Dog Chiro Near Melbourne?
Kirislin replied to emilymarston's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Not a chiro but an osteopath Brendan Atkin of animalosteopathy. He qualified on people first and has now gone to dogs and horses. I've taken Neko to Barry Haywood 4 times and I've taken other dogs to him over the years. He is good, I've no criticism of him. I was very impressed with Brendan though, he comes to your house, watches your dog move around in its own environment, takes a detailed written history, then does his examination and then treats. It's only since Neko has seen him that I've seen her truly stretch out when she runs. Baby can RUN!! by kirislin, on Flickr -
What's Wrong With My Darling Girl? :(

I'm happy to report that Feather seems fully recovered!!!! I think it must have been vestibular syndrome and I'm actually having my doubts that she did have a fit now. I'm wondering if it was just that she got really really dizzy and started thrashing around because she didn't know which way was up and was trying to right herself. I'm so glad it's over. I wish I could ring the vets and say dont do the blood test and save myself an extra $100 or so but it's too late. Thankyou all for your good wishes and advice. -
lovely photos T. Has Zeddy got a bit of Dane in her? Perhaps you could "market" her as a teacup Great Dane or maybe a large bucket Great Dane

What's Wrong With My Darling Girl? :(
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
the vet thinks she had a fit, and it looked like it to me but I'm not absolutely certain. I'd been holding her the whole time I was in the vets, she couldn't stand at all and was leaning against me. Then she suddenly started thrashing and her head started waving around. I couldn't see her face or eyes, I dont know what she was doing, I was too busy just trying to hold on to her. Whatever it was, she settled after about 10 seconds and from then on slowly improved. She seems almost back to normal now. She is a bit wobbly in the back end, but I've noticed that coming on for a few months so I'm assuming that is an age deterioration. -

Yep, as I read more it's sounding like that. I hope so, I'd rather that than epilepsy. She's already improving although has been sleeping most of the time since she came home, and I dont want to disturb her, just to see how she's moving. Thankyou both for offering up suggestions. -

Yep, he did mention it, and stroke although he thought that was unlikely. I just couldn't remember the name. She's already much improved though, I thought it lasts for a while. I am going to crate her tonight, I cant let her sleep on my bed for fear of her jumping off during the night and hurting herself. -
Feather is a 12 year old whippet. Not overweight, has always been a healthy girl but is showing signs of ageing. We all went to the park this morning and I was watching her because for several years now, on and off, she seems to feel the heat and sometimes gets the wobbles in the sun, even sometimes when it's not actually hot. I've spoken to the vet about it and they were vague. Anyway, I did notice her trying to find shade today so I didn't walk as far as I'd have liked and on the way back to the car I found a tap and ran water over her chest and under side to cool her. She was able to jump into the car by herself and I assumed she was OK. We got back home and of course I was then glued to the computer but about 3/4 of an hour after our walk I heard someone crashing through the dog door. I looked to see who it was and to my surprise Feather came staggering in bumping into things. She was very "with it" I could see she was thinking why cant I walk straight. I watched her for about 30 seconds and decided to call the vet. We went straight down, when Feather realised we were going in the car she was happy and excited and walked out to the car, even though she was falling all over the place. I lifted her into the back where she usually travels and thought she'd be OK but by the time I got to the vets 5 minutes later she was much worse. I carried her in and I could tell she didn't know which way was up. The vet couldn't see her immediately so the nurse took her temp, normal, checked her colour, good, and heart rate which was not surprisingly, fast. Then the vet came in and looked at her eyes and said she's got that thing where the eyes flick up and down, cant remember the name. While he was examining her she had a fit! She has never had one before. It was mild apparently. Anyway, he's taken bloods to try to rule out things but he's said it might not tell us what it was. Since she's been home she's much improved, still a bit wobbly but not very severe but definitely not back to normal. She has been outside to the toilet, and ate her dinner with her usual dainty enthusiasm. She's been sleeping most of the time and seems relaxed now. Any ideas people?

Just A Vent About Numpty Owners And Off Leash Dogs.
Kirislin replied to Malakita's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'll bet if you put a muzzle on your reactive dogs people would take a wide berth, which is funny really because if it's got a muzzle on it's unlikely to be able to bite, and yet people see it and think  -
I just take photos of my photos, that's all the ones I've posted are.

we need to see it!!!!!!!

I saw this on facebook. Congratulations to all who made it happen. The ANKC Lure Coursing Working Party announced that the National Lure Coursing Rules have been adopted by the ANKC, to commence in January 2015 (refer to Item 20 of the minutes now available on the ANKC website). This now means that Lure Coursing will now be an official sport in Australia, with rules based on the ASFA system, and were modified to suit local conditions and dog populations.

thanks Raineth, they were really lovely as puppies but as they grew Kibah wanted to be top girl and attacked Penny several times. I used to wish that it could be sorted but I always felt I had to intervene and break up their fights because they we so savage I feared one or both would be killed. Hard to imagine looking at them in these photos.

Puck as a baby 10 years ago. you could tell he was a character even back then. 5F6A1804dpp by kirislin, on Flickr When I first got Kibah back in 2000 I started out intending for her to sleep by my bed so I got a cardboard box and an old blanket. She was warm and snuggly in there. Penny was a few months older and slept in my bed. 5F6A1802dpp by kirislin, on Flickr but then Penny decided she wanted to be with the cute little puppy! 5F6A1801dpp by kirislin, on Flickr When they were young they were great mates. That changed as they grew, but these were the happy days. 5F6A1800dpp by kirislin, on Flickr Kibah racing fit and in perfect health. She was so little the racing club didn't have a muzzle small enough for her, but in her first year of racing she had 22 races for 20 wins. Her only losses were just after her season. My first dog as an adult was a mixed breed that I found pregnant on the side of the road. She was very intelligent and trainable. Sadly I left her with my ex boyfriend because he made me feel so guilty for leaving him. She was dead within a year. My next dog was a Whippet IG cross and I didn't consider her difficult although I was very willing to mould my life around her. She wouldn't suit everyone though, and alot of people thought she was ugly. She certainly looked like nothing I'd ever seen before. but I thought she was exquisite. 5F6A1805dpp by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A1806dpp by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A1807dpp by kirislin, on Flickr

was it a bit tough to start with?

I'm not a chihuahua person but I suspect it's to do with health, trying to breed less exaggerated types. That is starting to happen with a few breeds now.

thankyou Pers and T. I completely agree about seeing them run. I've had sighthounds for almost 3 decades now and must have seen thousands run and yet I never tire of watching them.
