  1. I have only just found this thread.... Jett and I are training for an ET at the end of this month. I have just increased our training sessions from 3-3.5 km to 4.5km and am finding that her recovery time is good. This week we will be doing 2 days on, one day off - today was our day off. I have ordered some lactade to add to her water and some pad conditioning wax to keep her pads supple. I am looking forward to it, but I hope that it doesn't rain *LOL* its hard enough to ride through grass, but wet muddy grass and with me wearing glasses...well I will need some wipers on them Is anyone else doing the Vizsla ET at KCC Park? I haven't yet practiced with another dog in front of me.... I am 'hoping' she will be fine as when we do our specialty shows she just contrates on her job and doesn't chase the other dogs...
  2. Hey I'm all for the breeder recouping their money back and some - I just get the feeling that some breeders feel guilty or are apprehensive about saying they do make a profit. This is life and nothing is for free. Where is the profit? I pay for my bitch, I pay for all of her food from the day she gets to my house (she gets fed well), I pay for her bedding, her vet bills, her toys, her food bowls, her health tests, x-rays, hip and elbow scoring, ultrasounds, her dog run, her kennel, her registrations each year with council, my VCA membership, then I pay the Stud Dog fee (could be an imported dog or frozem semen BIG COSTS), her Prog Tests, her Ultra Sound, Her X-ray to see how many puppies she is having, the additional food for her, the cost of the whelping box....then if we are lucky NO C-section (can be up to $3,000 for a rottweiler at 3am in the morning), then all the food for the puppies (again they get fed premium foods), registration of each puppy, microchipping, vaccinations, worming, puppy pack (30 pages printed, puppy toys, puppy blanket, puppy collar). Then there is all the time I spend with the puppies, you cant work so you have to take into account lost wages/holidays for the first couple of weeks). By the time you take everything into account, it all adds up. Some people only have a very small litter, some have larger ones, but seriously if you take into account EVERYTHING from when you got your bitch, you dont make anything. Yes we may come out with some money in our hands at the time of the sale, but in the long run, you are lucky to break even. I come up with my price from the Stud Fee of the dog
  3. I refer to it as typical temperament as dictated in the breed standard of the Rottweiler. If mine Rottweilers show the temperament in the breed standard then its excellent temperament for that breed. Our breed standard is : Good natured, placid in basic disposition and fond of children, very devoted, obedient, biddable and eager to work. His appearance is natural and rustic, his behaviour self assured, steady and fearless. He reacts to his surroundings with great alertness
  4. I too just found this thread, hope Zoey has contiued to improve throughout the day. THoughts are with you.
  5. Agree 100% and also they are all for BSL and have assisted banning certain dog sports in Victoria, now even tug-o-war is illegal according to the legislation.
  6. I used Aust Post Pre Paid Satchels .... 3kg Bag for the food and a 1kg bag for the Puppy Information pack which was a folder with clear sheets inside it. My puppy pack was 35 pages, I also included 3 x 10kg worm tablets, dog toys, dog blanket, information provided by Artemis on their food, pen, letter to vet.... this was all in a brown paper bag with handles and tied to the handle was a colour ribbon of the puppy they got. All kits arrived in tact and on time and new puppy owners were very happy

  18. Jett had 14 puppies, definate EEEEEKKKK moment, unfortunately 2 did not survive birth and she squashed 2 in the first 3 days, so in all we had 10 puppies, it was a lot of work, but the moment they opened their eyes and started moving around made it all worth it.... mind you POOP for 10 puppies, NOT FUN!!! Silverblue, I know what you mean about head counts, I swore I counted puppies about 1000 times a days for the first 3 weeks! I was so paranoid that she was going to squash more everytime I had to do something for a few minutes that I was driving myself insane

  20. That's a shame. I know all about not selling some people a gold fish either, you should hear some of the inquiries Rottweiler breeders get Another thought......as Pointers are a gun dog, perhaps advertising in some hunt clubs in your area would help??? Could you try here: this was on the dol breed page (I removed addresses) •Meeting Point (A quarterly magazine for ALL Pointer owners/lovers) Contact : Alison Green - QLD - Email: [email protected] or Jane Vickers email: [email protected] •The Pointer Club Inc (New Zealand) C/- Megan Rogan Mataura 9712 Southland NZ Email : [email protected]
  21. Most of my inquiries came from DOL or other breeders referring puppy people onto me. Dogs Victoria offeres FREE listing of puppies to their members, perhaps your Kennel Club offers the same free listing on their website, wouldn't hurt to try. Have you thought of getting in contact with a Pointer club in another state? ie one in QLD, they 'may' allow you to place an ad on their site for a fee if you are a registered breeder? (I dont really know though, just an idea) Perhaps in future advertise upcoming mating on your website PRIOR to mating the bitch that way you may have people lined up before the puppies are born. Most of mine were reserved before they were born. Good luck and I hope you find suitable homes for all of the beautiful puppies ETA: looking at the ad perhaps try and promote yourkennell and the puppies a little more with some basic information like I have listed below: Will the puppies be microchipped prior to going to their new home? Are they vaccinated, wormed, well socialised, have they been raised with children, are you a member of your State Kennel Council if so state that you adhere to their Code of Ethics (if you do), do they come with a comprehensive puppy pack? Are they being offered to show/pet and working homes? Have both Sire and Dam passed the required heath tests for Pointers? Will the puppies be registered on Main or Limited Registration?
