  1. Obviously that's what the judges like
  2. There are SBT's literally everywhere. I would be very surprised if you couldn't find one.
  3. This is very positive. Have you started looking for another property yet? Maybe just start researching councils which don’t have restrictions and look for properties in those areas? You say you have managed a multi-dog household for 20 years, so there is your precedence which confirms your abilities. No reason why it can’t continue :) :) We have had a multi dog permit for 10-13 years, before that registration wasn't compulsory so we never had a permit. I have found a much larger property under the same council but in a different area, I am going to arrange an inspection ASAP. Spoke with the council and we will need to reapply for the permit but because we've never had a complaint, the dogs spend most of their time inside and we've had a permit for so long we hopefully should be ok. Just hope the house is ok since it's quite old. Good news I hope it works out!
  4. Same. I'd have to make it work somehow
  5. I get it's a purebred dog site but if no one discusses this nothing will change? is this how we want PB dogs to be? If so, then give me a crossbreed any day.
  6. Yep! no...only domestic dogs are man made; there are a lot of other dogs out there where humans didn't interfere much with breeding, e.g. dingo. I though it was obvious we were referring to domestic dogs.
  7. Based on the last clinic I worked with, if a member of the public got vet work for a kitten they'd be looking at (all approx) $60 for a vaccination, $40 for a chip, $1-200 for desexing, $20 for flea/worm treatment per month plus food, times that by 2 and you've got from $6-700 so it's not that ridiculous.
  8. Does it matter? In my mind as long as animals are getting rehomed it doesn't matter which group is doing it.
  9. Sometimes I think we get too caught up in not attributing human reasoning to behaviours. Obviously we can't know but I definitely think some dogs remember past lives/owners, I'm also sure a lot couldn't care less! When I was working at the pound we had people who would come and adopt the oldest dog there, give them a good last few years/months and then when they passed they'd do it again. Couldn't do it myself but I thought it was lovely.
  10. I don't see an issue with it in general but yeah I'd question that amount! Although it could be like Dave-o said and anything not used for the kittens is put onto another area?
  11. Spot on. Any criticism should really be directed at the councils they work for as usually they set release fees etc.
  12. I also find the insinuation that pounds are holding pets ransom a bit offensive. I remember calling and calling, sending letters, emails etc to no avail. Telling people their animals are there and them saying sure they'll come in (no fees by the way at one facility) and never hearing from them again. Despite what people seem to think most people at the pound want to get the animal home. I can't count the amount of times I've been told to "Keep the bloody thing, it keeps getting out, kill it I don't care". I get that some pounds charge exorbitant fees and I agree this doesn't help. I also agree that helping people work around their problems so they can keep their pet is fantastic. I just know what I've seen working at a number of facilities and that is that there are a LOT of people who just don't give a shit, and whilst I want to see the best rehoming rates possible, I'm sick of pounds and their staff getting the blame whilst we pretend the rest of the population is just going through a hard time and that's why they didn't pick up their animal when they said they would, or ignored our calls or just dumped it at the gate overnight. Sorry for the rant and I know no one here has blamed the staff, but working where I have has made me a total misanthrope and most of my colleagues also. I can't pretend everyone wants the best for their animals when I know it's not the case. We do our best for the animals and we get abused by the people who are meant to care about them and then slammed by all the other people who hate us for apparently not caring for those same animals. You can't win.
  13. I agree that pounds should be doing everything they can to save lives trust me, my point is that it seems we don't try and change the way people treat their animals as disposable. It's just accepted and then it's the pounds problem. Frankly pounds and animal management in general need much more funding in order to operate the way we would like them to but they don't seem to rate very highly with the government. Re cats being seized...this may be law but why should people have to put up with other people's pets crapping in their garden and stirring up or attacking their own animals? Again it comes back to irresponsible pet owners. Don't want your cat taken to the pound? Keep it on your property
  14. I agree pounds should be doing everything possible to rehome animals, even if it means giving them away for free, although desexing, vaccs, microchipping etc needs to be paid for somehow so it's not all that easy, however I get sick of people saying the pound needs to take responsibility as if they caused the problem. Yes they do need to take responsibility for the animals in their care BUT the general public needs to take responsibility for their pets. We shouldn't have this problem in the first place. Melza what do you mean seized illegally? Are you talking about cats trapped on other peoples property?
  15. I agree, any pet one owns should be contained to their property.
  16. I got nabbed by a Cattle dog in the 80s. I was walking home from school and it jumped the "fence" and bit my leg. I had bleeding punctures on my calf. My mum didn't care, just told me to wash it and chuck some mercurochrome on it. It was just a hazard of growing up. Not saying it was a good thing, but back then, that's what people did. I think people report things more because social media lets them have "their moment" I agree with this. I was bitten on the face by a little scruffer that was wandering in the school yards when was little. Went to the dr and had it checked, got a tetanus shot but was hardly going to call A Current Affair lol Everything's made into such a drama these days.
  17. We keep getting letters saying our two need vaccinations. Last time we were there we asked the vet why they insist on yearly vaccs when the AVA recommend three yearly...they didn't have an answer. Does my head in. Just do what you know is best for your dog :)
  18. Yep. Every taxi ride I've had has been a crap experience
  19. A dog near us bit a kid, put her in hospital and was declared dangerous. The other day it got out as we were walking past. It came straight at us and tried to to attack one of my dogs but he fought back and my husband kicked it so it decided it wasn't worth the hassle and retreated. Perfect example of why being declared dangerous means nothing unless the owners follow the restrictions. Any dog that puts a kid in hospital should be PTS IMO. This isn't a cross breed or a bull breed either.
  20. Same with some Amstaffs, seems to be an obsession with massive heads. Not good.
