  1. Same here. For animals and humans we put money away each week/month/whatever we can and keep a credit card for emergencies.
  2. Welcome back! The new venture sounds great, all the best with it :)
  3. I haven't seen the thread in question. Was just speaking for myself. No dog is suitable for a situation in which they don't receive attention.
  4. I dont think any dog likes being left alone for long periods. I wouldn't recommend that as a good life for any dog.
  5. I often see all kinds of breeds recommended for unsuitable homes, not just greyhounds. Its a subjective thing. Different people will have different opinions on what no fuss means. I think they're generally considered no fuss due to the short coat/no real grooming required , the fact they aren't normally barkers and their great temperament. As rebanne said I don't consider these things to mean the dog should be ignored.
  6. Ours lurrrrve yoghurt/froghurt. They also get to lick the last little bit of ice cream off the stick. Heaven forbid.
  7. I wouldn't be concerned. No guarantees with living things and cancer can pop up anywhere. I honestly wouldn't worry :)
  8. Except that we're only talking about doing so if we are in danger..... If there was a cat in my yard that was going to bite me/my child /dog and kill within minutes you can bet I'd chop it's head off and I wouldn't be apologising for it either.
  9. I don't think it's irrational. They can kill you! I don't like killing anything but if it came down to my child/family/dog etc I wouldn't hesitate to kill a snake.
  10. If I didn't get a response to the email within 4-5 days I wouldn't bother personally. If you aren't going to reply don't put the address there as an option. Re phoning, I'd call during business hours to start with and ask if it's a suitable time, and if not when would be.
  11. Just that it's easily digestible and it's also low fat which is best for an upset stomach.
  12. If you've been treating for heartworm I doubt that the dog is infected. I wouldn't expect a vet to test first unless the history of the dog was unknown or it was known that it had not been treated previously for heartworm. I hope your dog recovers.
  13. That would be my guess. re birthing in pounds, if desexing is an option then I'm all for it but it isn't always, sometimes it's too late etc. It's pretty easy to rehome puppies as opposed to adult dogs so I don't have a real problem with it as long as the pups and Mum are well cared for, and that really depends on the staff and facility. DA this post is so interesting. I am not sure what you mean by desexing as an option. Do you mean desexing a pregnant dog? I would like to know more about this. Do you mean desexing a pregnant dog that is already in rescue? I am not sure but I think pregnant cats are often desexed as a way of solving the problem. Yes desexing if early enough in the pregnancy. Part of the issue is that if the dog is a stray it doesn't belong to the pound until its done its 8 days (in VIC anyway) so they can't operate on it. If it's been surrendered that's different.
  14. Yep. We're currently looking at rural properties and the plan is to fence off a house yard with Colourbond. Not sure why you would want a solid colourbond fence. I think it's great that our dogs have the pleasure of being able to see out through our fence at all the interesting stuff that's going on around the farm. We often say to each other .....wouldn't it be boring for them if they lived in surburbia & had nothing but a colourbond fence to look at all day. A few reasons. They will be allowed on the whole property when with us. The fenced in area would only be used for if they are outside unsupervised which would only be for short periods. They're normally inside on the couch anyway. I want a solid fence for some privacy as when I say rural there are still a couple of other houses within sight. I also have an ASD who barks at everything so I want his sight restricted to an extent when unsupervised outside.

  17. I think if you can find a good one they're great!
  18. My thoughts were the same. I've been bitten by the derper dog on the leg and the bruising was terrible and lasted for several weeks (and I don't normally bruise easily), despite no broken skin at all. I'd guess two Franga bogans had a fight, one was unfortunate enough to have an unregistered bull breed and the female Franga bogan decided to get the last lick in by having his dog killed. Yup!
  19. I don't care. I just hope that people don't punish their dogs thinking it's going to work.
  20. Yup. Yeah this is how I'd explain it too.
  21. There are ways around it but they cost more, and animal studies really aren't as foolproof as we're told they are. They aren't humans. We're talking China here so welfare will not be the highest priority
  22. Totally agree snook. Removing dog walkers is a bad idea, dogs need exercise and interaction, and the medication needs to be administered and used appropriately.
