  1. We always had euthanised animals in bags in the freezer. Never have I seen an animal put into a freezer as is.
  2. Just adding, my Aussie chews on her bones then buries what's left (if any) but my boy will bury a fresh bone straight away if it's big (precious) enough.
  3. My female Aussie Shepherd buries certain "precious" toys and sometimes bones but she's quite half arsed about it. Just a few nosefuls of dirt over the prize  she also "buries" her toys in the couch cushions.. My male Anatolian will only bury bones if they're really big and he does a good job of it. Both of them dig random holes for fun/to lie in.
  4. So sorry to hear this. I agree with others that maybe she can be taken to your regular vet for supportive care now? That would cost less than staying in emergency at least. All the best, I hope she's feeling a lot better soon.
  5. My two both have double coats so we don't bother. If I had a short coated dog I'd probably go by how cold I was. If I felt the need to rug up I'd do the same for them :)
  6. Haha thanks guys. We think he's pretty awesome. We had thought about going to clark rubber actually! Perse he'd be in heaven lol
  7. A friend of mine used to give her two GSD's a freddo frog almost every day. Not something I'd do but they suffered no ill effects. I never feed chocolate but I've heard a very experienced vet say a little bit of milk chocolate is usually harmless. So yes we need to be careful but maybe not panic too much when dogs get into things etc. Like I said I don't feed grapes/raisins, chocolate or macadamias, but my dogs enjoy the occasional party pie or lick of my ice cream ;)
  8. And another, 'cause I can :) He's possibly the best dog ever so he needs to be comfy
  9. Thanks for all the ideas guys, much appreciated. Here's the boofhead in question
  10. Really? 18 months ago I was bitten on the hand by a mare protecting her foal. The first thing I was asked when presenting at emergency was when was my last tetanus shot? Yes, I agree tetanus is unlikely in the OP's scenario, but it shouldn't be taken lightly. It is a serious bacterial disease which is easily preventable. I have seen tetanus in a neighbour's horse about 25 years ago now, it wasn't a nice death That's what a Dr told me about a year ago. Something about one or two shots over a lifetime providing immunity? I agree it's better to be safe than sorry though. I've recently had a whooping cough jab which included tetanus so should be good for a while .
  11. Thanks Jules I'll check them out. Thanks showdog, was considering a single bed mattress if the cot one wasn't big enough!
  12. He is  he's about 52kg but really tall so when he stretches out he's massive. I'll check the cot mattress though it might be ok!
  13. Thanks harley, I did think about that, it would be big enough for him to sit on but possibly not to stretch right out on. I'm not sure I'll have to test it. He has very long legs and I want to keep his elbows on something soft. I did consider a single mattress haha it would be the same price as a lot of the big dog beds! I'll get my babies mattress tomorrow and see how big it is compared to him lol
  14. I'm sure you could make it work but are your yards fenced? Where would the dog be during the day if you aren't home? If inside I'd be worried about mischief, I have a giant breed dog and as a puppy he was exercised and trained a lot but still pretty much trashed our 3 bedroom house!
  15. We need a new bed for Mo and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on extra extra large beds? We really need the biggest bed available so he can stretch out! Happy to buy online too. TIA :)
  16. I have no issue with home checks but I do think they can be a barrier at times. I guess it's up to the individual rescue to decide if they are worth the potential lost homes. I'm sure in many cases they are.
  17. I wouldn't worry its very unlikely. I had a shot after was bitten by a dog as a kid but I'm pretty sure these days they say the ten year booster isn't even really necessary.
  18. Lili - making getting out from under the bed the loudest thing in the world. Ever. Mosley - melting the hearts of people formerly scared of dogs world wide.
  19. What's the point in doing the study if people can't get the details they need to choose to stop feeding the food that is no good/possibly harmful?? Load of rubbish
  20. It isn't backlash. its downright abusive and what surprises me is the amount of people who claim to love dogs being so utterly vicious. Perhaps you haven't visited the Crufts page. I'm not making excuses for that behaviour. I already said I don't agree with it. When I say backlash I'm referring to all kinds of feedback on PB dogs in general. No I haven't been onto the Crufts page.
  21. Totally. The problem is that a big show like Crufts is often all the general public sees as a representation of breeds
  22. I don't think anyone should be charged with abuse and feel for the owner who no doubt loves and wants the best for her dog. My issue is with the way they look/move in general and it isn't just GSD's. There are other breeds that seem to be bred with looks as first priority rather than function, and don't really agree with that. I think if PB dog fanciers keep trying to ignore these issues they can't be surprised by all the backlash.
