Max Temperature You Walk Your Dog In?
Dame Aussie replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ours always get walked first thing in the morning so we rarely have issues with it being too hot, but on those awful 38-40 degree type stretches we give it a miss. -
Raw Feeding Issue. Too Much Bone?

Yeah my guys love their drumsticks. We've always fed them with no issues :) -
Raw Feeding Issue. Too Much Bone?
Dame Aussie replied to laeral's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I agree with HW, I would rather feed a combination of raw and good quality kibble than feed only raw and have health issues. By all means stick to raw if that's what you prefer, but if cost is an issue I wouldn't allow principles to cause issues for the dog. We get lamb hearts at our butcher and they're a great meal. Also drumsticks, marylands and lamb necks have a good bit of meat on them. We feed frames but only a couple times a week as they are mostly bone. You can add things like sardines/tuna/yoghurt/egg to kibble aswell. -
Poor long suffering Maddie

Just read about Stans' meltdown  brilliant.

Happy birthday Maddie! Such a gorgeous girl :)

Yes, completely agree. Whether one likes the style of write up or not isn't any real indication of how the rescue group actually chooses a potential adopter.

Yep Don't even start me on the shambles that is V Line
-
V Line allow only small dogs in carriers which is discrimination I think 10kg and under last time I checked? I don't really think muzzles are necessary but I think if any dog needs to be muzzled they should all be muzzled. ETA: Just checked, carrier + pet cannot weigh over 15kg.

In my experience its not difficult to find homes for puppies. Adults however can be much more difficult.

Impact Of No Pull Harnesses On Dogs
Dame Aussie replied to Salukifan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lots of dogs every day attend vet hospitals with muscle tendon and joint issues Sure but with no cause? I just wonder how many can be attributed to harnesses. -
Impact Of No Pull Harnesses On Dogs
Dame Aussie replied to Salukifan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes. I've heard of people misusing crates or locking dogs in ones way too small. Ever seen a dog with a flat collar that's cut it's neck? Or a check chain left on that's caught on something? Everything has the potential to be misused. Working in a shelter I saw plenty of dogs with collars so tight they had cut into the flesh -
Impact Of No Pull Harnesses On Dogs

Wouldn't we be seeing huge amounts of dogs with major mobility issues if such popular harnesses were so damaging? Are we seeing that? -
Agree with all the other responses. Pit Bulls are one of my favourite breeds, just beautiful dogs, it does sound like you need a bit of help with her though. I'm in Vic but I have also heard very good things about Jane Harper. Good luck!

You Care More About Your Dogs Than.......

That wardrobe is adorable -
I would imagine that before any adoption took place any red flags would be covered in detail. This is just to get interest.
-
I agree it's cringe worthy and I wouldn't write a profile that way, but I think you'd be surprised how many people like that kind of thing :/ . I know working at a shelter, that type of description would attract a lot of potential adopters.
-
It's a bit over the top and not to my taste but it is thorough and it isn't always easy in rescue, so if it helps the dog find a home, who am I to complain.

Prison Sentence For Animal Welfare Offences.
Dame Aussie replied to j's topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
I'd normally agree re imprisonment for minor/non violent crimes LG, but for animal cruelty/neglect, lock them up. They make me sick and I don't believe working in a refuge etc will do anything. Only a certain type of person can harm an animal and I don't believe they're able to be rehabilitated. -
You Care More About Your Dogs Than.......
Dame Aussie replied to Dory the Doted One's topic in General Dog Discussion
I haven't been told outright that I care too much about my dogs but I admit that they are the most important things to me  I'm sure when I have this baby she will rank up there too but I'll still be crazy about my dogs! I honestly don't really see what could be more important than them? Not a job, not a house or lifestyle etc, only family and in my mind they ARE family, so of course they're important. -
A lot of police/sniffer dogs get rewarded with games of tug/fetch etc rather than treats. I think either is fine and it depends on what the dog values, some aren't all that food motivated anyway.

Are you trying to tell me you don't even get the sad eyes or purposeful sighs while you eat? What witchcraft is this?! Hahaha, I usually get Quinn sitting opposite me resting her chin on the coffee table, Lili does exactly this too haha
-
Mine don't necessarily get anything but it doesn't stop them staring
-
Yeah we do this  show empty hands and say "No more, all gone" and they skulk off looking disgusted

As long as the meat is still ok I'd do it.
