Non Dog People With A 'runt' Obession
Dame Aussie replied to Sabbath's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it's just the whole "it's so small I feel sorry for it" thing. -
It may never have done anything wrong before, it was in it's own yard behind a fence. Plus we don't know if it had been teased or worked up either. Personally I wouldn't have a fence with any gaps but then I've heard of kids climbing fences too . You can't always protect people from themselves.

The rubber balls we use don't do it as they're smooth. The problem with tennis balls is the dirt that sticks to them grinds the teeth down whereas if they're smooth there's nothing for the sand/dirt to really grab onto. Lili's teeth have stayed exactly the same since we switched.
-
She wont do it again that's for sure! I never would have done that as a kid, with a strange dog on it's own territory especially, I don't remember but I can only guess my parents told me not to.
-
I don't have any reccs but yeah I'd say that's it.
-
My Aussie's bottom canines are quite worn from tennis balls. We hadn't realised what was causing it and now only use rubber balls. I wouldn't be concerned unless they get a lot worse and you can't figure out what's causing it.

Yes there was definitely a Kong one

Do You Think This Is A Problem Behaviour?
Dame Aussie replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
If she is only responding to other dogs snapping at her I wouldn't call her aggressive no. My Aussie is like this too. If another dog has a go at her (which has happened I think twice over her 7 years) she won't just back down and take it and will pursue the other dog having a go. She has never started anything though. I'm not questioning you attending dog parks but this is one reason why we don't. I can control my dogs but not others, and I know if another dog starts something Lili won't just walk away :/ -
I'd separate them to begin with. Is there a reason your shiba isn't getting as much exercise as before? How much longer do you think you will be living with the in laws?

Such good news kirty. When I read your first post I didn't think it sounded good at all but what a great outcome. I'm so glad they've all come through :)

Dog Rescue Testimonials
Dame Aussie replied to Suezanne's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
*Your Name/ State - Kat / VIC *Dogs Name/Age/Breed - Mosley / 11 weeks when adopted, now almost 7yo / Anatolian x Maremma. *Your adoption story - I was working at a shelter when Mosley was surrendered. We were told he wasn't good with children - he was an 11 wk old puppy. I believe the owners just didn't know what they had taken on as he was already quite a large pup. The vets at the shelter were a bit worried about him being rehomed and returned due to his expected size and mix. I fell in love instantly and said I'd take him. A few people questioned whether I'd be able to deal with him but I can say almost 7 years later he's a brilliant dog. He's been challenging in that the breeds he is made up of are both very independent so he kind of does his own thing, and he is a barker which can be a challenge in suburbia, but we manage. His temperament is faultless. He loves everyone, other dogs, children etc and is just a big cuddle monster :) we're so glad we adopted him :) -
Oh jesus I hope they all pull through kirty. How horrendous. Could it be the pentobarbital from the euthanasia?

Hate dogs in utes. Unless the dog is secured in a crate or something similar it's just too risky.

Malamute Has Picked Up A Strange Habit
Dame Aussie replied to ellejaytee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our Aussie suckles on toys and pillows. She just has her own things she's allowed to suck on and we let her do it, never been an issue. She's done it since a pup. She doesn't chew at herself though. -

Our old Chihuahua used to do this to a certain quilt, but only ever to the one quilt. We took it away and the behaviour stopped, it was very odd! -
Border Collie Escaping To Chase Wildlife?
Dame Aussie replied to evm's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yeah I'd have her inside or use the run. Very difficult to train a dog out of something so satisfying and fun! You could try the electric fence too, can't hurt. Otherwise you risk her getting into trouble if she's on someone else's land -
Haha it's a pain working at the pound as we get lots of dogs with NSW chips that have moved to VIC and never been updated or added to the other registries, and we had to phone NSW and get permission to get the details etc rather than just do a quick search! There should just be a national database IMO.
-
NSW have their own database :) www.petregistry.nsw.gov.au
-
Good reminder!! Chips are only as good as the info on them!
-
I agree with this. Good luck :)
