  1. It's illegal in NSW to transport uncleaned game meat carcasses desined for use in human or animal consumption. The gutting and dressing must be commenced within 20minutes of shooting the first animal of the run. Skins must be left on. Process is as follows, in strict order: Sourcing and killing Hanging Bleeding Freeing weasand Freeing anus and urinary tract Dressing Gutting Freeing pluck Inspection Identification (tagging) Transport The practices in the field that I have personally seen, over recent years, mean I would not purchase roo meat for human, or animal consumption. ;) Each to their own, we are all shaped by our own experiences... edit - typos...
  2. His head is very odd. It may be just the pic but it looks smooth like it is fluid filled. Poor little mite. It's amazing what can turn up in crossbreds, complete outcrosses so we can't blame the all-evil inbreeding... But I wonder, if this stuff turned up in purebred litters, would inbreeding levels be he first place fingers were pointed?
  3. I too was thinking spaniels - Cocker, American Cocker... But I have to concur with Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog) - seems perfect! Otherwise Lagotto maybe? Or - this one. Japanese Spitz. :D
  4. If it's a rescue you don't know the breeding? Could be something or could be normal... If it is some sort of bulldoggy or boxerish cross... Some of teh American and Aussie Bulldog lines seem to have very large heads and often have protruding bottom jaws. If it's severely undershot that may not be compatible with suckling and/or life anyway...
  5. Some pups go through piddly stages when being patted, just like fear stages it is not abnormal or indicative of being overly submissive etc. If you're in touch with you vet, it could be worth checking for UTI, but it may be just a puppy stage.
  6. When I was using Interceptor I kept an eye out online for bargains. So long as it is legitimate Australian product, and still in date. It actually worked out quite cost effective. Keep an eye on ebay. ;)
  7. Your registration certificate should still have a unique number for that partnership, so no it shouldn't matter. I do mine like Mirawee and put both names in the surname box, they have all shown up correctly in catalogues. :D
  8. I would think that if a shelter could hire staff trained in adoption and pet/owner matching then the pet store could do the same. If the store management have embarked on this program, which seems like it would be far less profitable than selling commercially bred pups, they seem to be concerned with factors other than maximum profit. So in theory they shouldn't have issues with being as careful with adoption matching as any other shelter or rescue.
  9. As far as I have experienced Erny, it doesn't agree with many sighthounds at all. I'm sure there are individuals that differ, but they are a decent sized family, and if their crosses are similar that is a decent sized group of dogs. I know of dogs in other groups that don't cope with roo meat, everything from kelpies to labs to toy breeds and gundogs. Evena a little but sets some off with wind and discomfort, whereas some suffer skin rashes and just don't generally "do" very well
  10. Yet that doesn't address the point that roo meat doesn't physicaly agree with many dogs, some as individuals and some as whole breeds or types. Perhaps that should be mentioned when t is advertised as part of an effective diet... ;)
  11. That doesn't address the fact that roo meat doesn't physically suit many dogs. Should it really be promoted as such a fantastic dog food?
  12. Protexin is ok with the abs, some people think it's a waste as the abs may keep destroying the good bacteria, but it seems to work at maintaining some levels in the meantime, and boost them quicker when the meds are done.
  13. The canopies can be harder to manage the temperature in. If you're doing distances and are after efficiency and comfort etc you could look at a Subaru diesel wagon with a cargo barrier for the dogs. Foresters have a lovely amount of space in the back, and the aircon gives you peace of mind. I have the diesel Outback which has slightly less headroom but is wider, awesome economy (on a par with a small hatchback) and fantastic to drive, and fits two of my big dogs in the back comfortably, in the aircon,, with gear on the back seat.
  14. I keep my dogs on a minimum of about15% fat in their diet, higher in winter. But they are a low bodyfat breed, higher ones like Labs or News would need different levels. Generalisations on fat requirements don't take into account different breeds, individuals and their different body fat levels and dietary requirements.
  15. Pets1 if you genuinely have these concerns, you need to report to the APVMA as well. Each and every incident and concern. Anecdotal information from industry members is sometimes as important as first hand experience, and APVMA won't have the ammunition to challenge Bayer over the issue, or investigate any further if they are not fully aware of the issue.
  16. Protexin would be fantastic, even Yakult helps pep some up while on ABs. Will he take the tabs crushed and mixed into something mushy and tasty?
  17. I put this in the VAN thread earlier: There have been several exposures of shocking practices in kangaroo harvesting, from excessive cruelty and non-compliance with allowable numbers, to serious concerns with modes of dressing and transport. Videos have been produced of maggot infested carcasses being transported in ill-sealed and poorly refrigerated units, still entering the commercial meat supply. For some people there are ethical reasons to question the industry. Kangaroo meat also doesn't agree with some types of dogs, being low in fat and high in protein.

  19. Is it worth keeping an eye on sites like Gumtree and Petlink etc in case he has fallen into the wrong hands and they try to sell him? Have shared on FB, I too keep checking and hoping. Sending optimistic vibes to you and your family Clyde.
  20. Trousers and tie are proven germ-protection equipment...
  21. A nice article and pic in today's Canberra Times. Positive news for existing Greyhound owners, and encouraging for potential owners: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/greyhounds-chance-to-go-muzzlefree/2417498.aspx Sorry I can't copy and paste text from iPad...
  22. I think the OP means the two prices apply to the one pupy. That is if you wanted to buy the pup without papers it is $1000 less than it is if you want papers. Is that right? So not a question of paying more for better quality or potential prospects, just paying more for the same pup.
  23. A friend recently told me they read a very interesting article on the possibility of some bloat being linked to electrolyte imbalances. They haven't forwarded me the link yet so I haven't read it myself. But apparently racing Greyhounds have a low incidence of bloat? Despite being deep chested? Someone here may be able to confirm or refute that. But apparently this study made a parallel to the careful electrolyte management most Greyhounds are subject to and the low incidence of bloat. I'd be interested to know whether bloat incidence is higher in warmer climates.
  24. I did mine. I'm a benched show newbie tough, so anyone with advice, or who will be there on the 13th feel free to share tips and/or come say hello.
