Abandoned House, Cats And Kittens Inside
Alyosha replied to dubbleyoo's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Police. But only if the agent or owner can't get in. They should be the first point of call. I would tell the agent that they are now aware of the animal's suffering, and failing act upon it may constitute a cruelty offence. Maybe the agent can attend with the police? And open the property at their request prior to entry being forced? -
I remember some old neighbours a few years back that had a racing grey, adored family girl. She had an AI done through Bowral, with all sorts of pregnancy complications that kept comng up, and a large single pup and emergency c-section. They raced her to the Bowral clinic a few times AH and got great service and care. They were more than impressed, she was very precious to them and their pup was lovely... even though he might have been cheaper in gold plate!

Hygroma(s) In A 14 Week Old Puppy?
Alyosha replied to bianca.a's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you PM pixie meg she should be able to tell you about Oberon's. He ended up wearing a support sling thingy... I can't remember the technical name! Imagine a neoprene wrap that goes over the top of their shoulders and around their elbows like a human knee brace. It provides a pressure wrap as well as some cushioning while it heals. -
Have heard lots of positives about Bowral, haven't used them personally but certainly wouldn't hesitate to.

I'm very curious about this, and read a mention in a thread a while back that someone's vet had warned of possible lack of/small testicles and even feminisation of male pups as a result of progesterone supplementing. Has anyone here experienced anything like this? Or is it a wives tale? I haven't used progesterone, and would be in two minds about doing so - but can certainly see why people do. But I would love to hear of any noted or possible side effects, or stories of no effects, on male pups and their bits. :)

You're right. Those details should be spot on. Hopefully the CC can sort that out quick smart for you. I wonder if the breeder has submitted them incorrectly?

Most country shows have a decent Cav entry. :) You can find show info here: http://dogsnsw.org.au/images/stories/PDFS/2012_for_Web.pdf

What do you mean by saying his name is "wrong"? Did the breeder promise a certain registered name? The breeder gets two choices for a pup's name, and if neither are approved by the CC, they will get given what they get. It's not always possible to get certain names.

Miranda, posting once and disappearing is not really in the spirit of discussion, which is what forums are all about. A fair exchange, back and forth, is what helps us all to learn and share information. I don't think that any of us have defended dog geek particularly, other than as an individual, and an honest and open one at that. None of us have said we would head down the same path, but we are involved with different breeds. It is also a matter of personal preference and knowledge. If all breeders thought the same we wouldn't be human. I'm sure most people involved with dog breeding have heard of, or know of breedings being done involving similar and even greater potential issues. Yet those aren't necessarily discussed openly at all. There is an element of risk involved in most things that we do, including breeding our dogs. What we do is evaluate that risk based on knowledge and calculate whether the risk is acceptable vs the potential outcome. We might even re-evaluate the same situation at any time and find the risk level unacceptable.

Kelp has not just iodine, but a host of other trace minerals that may be lacking in diet, including copper, cobalt, zinc and selenium among others. Trace minerals can be lacking in commercially grown foods, whether grains, veges or meats. Copper in particular is frequently linked to coat fade or lack of colour. Dark haired animals (and humans!) have been shown in some studies to require up to 6 times the dietary trace copper of pale haired or fair ones. Lack of iodine will cause thyroid issues, scurf/dandruff and problems with estrus, or if breeding, a lack of female offspring, who either are not conceived, or born dying and hairless. Excess dietary iodine has the same signs as not enough, but if yours have not had iodine supplement previous this is very unlikely. I feed seaweed meal to my dogs. When I had goats and horses it was offered to them free choice. In your situation I would feed the Seaweed meal three times a week about a half teaspoon for a Basenji, the Livamol two or three nights and have a night or two with none. Iodine is used up faster in cold weather and a little mire seaweed meal at these times is usually good. The only worry I have with too much Livamol long term is the sugar levels and teeth etc.

The forum needs a little wanking emoticon sometimes. -
Wow. I forgot to check this thread since page one and missed all this! I think the only fault I have seen of you in here Dog geek is being too open and honest. That should not be a bad thing, and I greatly admire your honesty and disclosure - the dog world in general could benefit from more breeders being up front with the issues within their breed, and their active involvement in working upon improving those issues. Dog geek seems to me to do publicly what breeders all should do, and most would do it mentally and save themselves the criticism - be the toughest on your dog's negative points - ALL dogs have negatives. And then ensure that those negatives are a foremost consideration in any breeding plan. And yes, Dog geeks dog's can and do hold their own in the ring. I showed her boy from her last litter at a very large show in Sydney (over 1600 entries) and although he was fourth in his large baby class he was given extraordinarily good feedback from several other all breeds and toy judges who were there on the night, as well as long term Pom folks. I would've kept him in a heartbeat if I was not fully committed with my own dogs and family. Even then I was tempted to find a way...

Bendigo Man Threatens To Kill Pet Cats If They Wander Into His Yard

Another scenario for the roaming cat owners: I usd to work in a large shelter and had the misfortune to answer the phone one day when people rang in complete distress, having seen a car run over a cat and fail to stop. I asked them to bring it in. By the time they arrived poor puss was dead, but it had not been an easy passing, crawling away from witnesses and screaming and writhing in agony before dying in their arms while they raced to try and get him help. Puss was chipped and collared. I had the unenviable task of ringing his owners and telling them. They broke down on the phone, adamant he was in the front garden "He never leaves the yard!" Yet he had been killed several blocks from home... It was a terrible death, it was a terrible experience for the witnesses, and it was terrible for the clinic staff who had to deal with all that, then return his remains to his devastated owners when they arrived and try and counsell them accordingly. This sort of thing happens to cats and people all the time. I'm sure your cat never leaves your yard, just like that cat never did. Save us from your naive and uncaring attitudes. Grow up and get responsible. Protect your cats from the dangers of wandering just as you protect your dogs. -
Not based on the limted media information. Obviously if the cops, inspectors and rangers on site all decided that wasn't enough to justify seizure, then it wasn't. It doesn't matter how much the media beat it up, they weren't there, they don't know or work under the legislation, and all they want to do is sell papers or gain ratings.

Lizards are protected by law, and can carry parasites dangerous to cats anyway. So I completely fail to see how letting your cat chase them can remotely be equated with caring for them. Sometimes the things animals, or people, like are not necessarily the best things for them. ;) -
Authorities can only work with the legislation that they have. If you don't have a lawful reason to seize a domestic animal, taking it is stealing. Tranter has come undone here before, and playing on peoples emotions doesn't make her actions lawful.

Hate to be picky but am wondering how in depth your knowledge of the breed, and what constitutes a great representative of that breed, when you get the breed's name wrong?
-
Our pups are usually over 8kg at 6 week or so, and grow to a max of about 45kg. So he may need some more weight on.
-
Daisy isn't sable, or she would show black guard hairs. Either she or Comet must carry a sable gene though. :D What colours are in their pedigrees? Why the change of heart with Sweetie?
-
Ahhh. But Dogzonline is a website... And many breeders have their own websites where they advertise litters. Plus Pet rescue is also a website... Where do people end up looking to find pets? Blanket statements like this are the reason breeders won't support things like Oscar's Law... Generic condemnations end up making things harder for the people trying to do the rght thing anyway.

Go the hounds! it was a great night. :D

All the ones in Australia seem to be live distemper. Just an extra thought... Another option you may have, if you find a product elsewhere in the world that might suit what you need, your vet can apply through the same department - APVMA - for special permission to import it. This permission can be given when a vet specifically needs a medicine which is not available in Australia.
-
So sorry to hear about your pups. This is a list of all vaccines approved in Australia that cover Distemper: http://services.apvma.gov.au/PubcrisWebClient/search.do;jsessionid=d42TPvdC1smTbNHKRGTX8CrSgJSqLJylx2XBp7r215hKjySvGdvM!1534907726 They all seem to be combinations. If you go into each entry some will say what components are killed or attenuated. If not, you can click on label details and you should find the info there. In a different section on the same website you or your vet can report the adverse reaction: http://www.apvma.gov.au/use_safely/adverse/veterinary.php Could it be worth avoiding the Distemper component for these pups or related ones? And just giving Parvac (killed parvovirus only vaccine)?

It wasn't a big group unfortunately. But it was nice to see a nice young Kerry Blue, that won RUIG, and also a Wheaten! It's been ages since I saw one down this way!
