  1. I use divetelac. When I did a lot of wildlife caring and shelter fostering (neonates) I used a couple of other things but always came back to it as it was the easiest to measure and mix (which can be useful in the wee hours when sleep is very scarce...) and I always had the best results on it. I do also use Impact colostrum supplement by Wombaroo. I prefer it to other probiotics like protexin, and it works if mum is on ABs as well.
  2. Thanks Meea! More typing than I was going to do on the little phone keyboard... :D Have fun all attending!!
  3. I didn't realise The Gorgeous One had his very own thread!!! :D I'm so glad he's with you PM. Every time I see his pics I always smile. He's a tough one to let go, he would never have gone anywhere if it wasn't to the best home possible.
  4. I think it could be very important for any owner of a seized dog to lodge an appeal through the VCAT immediately. It will keep the dog alive and put pressure on the seizing body. Maybe if they go nuts seizing dogs and then realise they have to look after them all some rationality might be injected into the situation.
  5. I'm not overly familiar with Vcat, but based on the administrative appeals process generally - 12 months would be not unusual. Seeing as councils are normally strapped to run existing pounds, maintaining new extensive kennelling facilities for seized dogs would be a stretch at best.
  6. Does the govt have some sort of plan for when they start seizing dogs and people start launching Vcat appeals? All those dogs will then have to be kennelled and provided for, and an appeal is not a fast process... They are surely going to need multiple kennelling complexes and staff and resources to maintain them.
  7. Damn phone typing. I think I have fat fingers!! I'll find them on FB and relay them in here.
  8. The NSW Hound Club are on Facebook and had the breed breakdown on there if you have access. I only rememner 21 afghans, 19 boprzoip and 3 saluki - sorry!
  9. Oh MTD I'm sorry for your loss. What a beautiful boy Jake was, and what a lovely life he had with you.
  10. I think the thought behind it being to help highlight and possibly educate those few registered breeders who sell pups to anyone and then those pups (and their resultant offspring) repeatedly come into rescue situations.
  11. Oh Fordogs I'm so sorry. What a devastating thing to happen! Words fail me.
  12. It's like increased regulation though, additional admin work like this needs time and resources that are scarce as it is.
  13. Not necessarily, as it may include a field like - rescued and re-adopted, with breeder co-operation and assistance. There are also breed specific rescues that may take in a purebred and already have a suitable home on their waiting list - they might let the original breeder know who is happy to have them rehome that dog. So again, with co-operation and/or assistance. But at least the breeder would know. I'd like to know. A breeder may be able to suggest a foster placement, or provide vet care etc.
  14. Fingers crossed that some answers aren't too far off you you Teebs. Give the boy a hug for me.
  15. Also if dogs are chipped prior to ANKC registration the number can be matched back through the state body even if that dog turns up in pound/rescue without it's ANKC rego papers. So a system like this could actually help breeders be reunited with their own stock in such circumstances. The publishing thing I think would be ok, because the end result would go hand in hand with the report. So, for example, if you had two dogs turn up in rescue one year - and they had lost their owners etc, or otherwise turned up for a legitimate reason, it would also show that the breeder took them back in, and/or provided for them whether with permanent care or rehoming etc. So the record could be another good thing for breeders, showing publicly that they do indeed accept responsibility for their bred dogs down the track, instead of just giving lip service. I would rather see a breeder that has had dogs returned, accepted and dealt with it ethically as a part of breeding and life than see one who has just sold them willy nilly and ignored them later on - or pretended they were someone elses'...
  16. Great photos guys. I'm ever so slightly jealous... :D What an awesome time you must've all had! Well done on getting it organised. Esky if you really need a sighthound you know how gorgeous Borzoi are... 'specially puppies...
  17. So do mine. Even in a pack the ears will all prick up at the sight of small fluffy anything. Once they get a little closer you can see them recognise it as a dog. Ears go down, interest immediately fades - "How boring, just a little fluffy dog".
  18. Victorian Borzoi Club Specialty Show, Judge - Mr Andre Van Den Broek - BIS Gr Ch Mistraka Quinn Theskimo. His 18th BIS - big congrats to all involved.
  19. So perfect. I just love when things work out wonderfully. :D ps - love the new edited sig - Nova looks right at home in there!!
  20. Accidental deaths are not illegal - it's intentional killing of wildlife that is. So running one over with your car is not unlawful, or if you're at an offleash park and a dog grabs one, or if your dog grabs one in the backyard. All of which is of course different to setting dogs on them.
  21. I think you nailed it there Allerzeit - it's that worry that they look back at you and they're all alone and don't understand!! His new owner actually flew down to pick him up and she was crying too when he went in the crate and drove off!! :D I know he'll be home now and they'll be too busy to email for a little while but it will be a welcome email when it arrives! I have one heading to South Africa in two weeks which will be REALLY hard - it's just so far, and like he'll be gone forever. Even though I know the breeder there who is fantastic and it's an honour to have my bloodlines with her... Still so hard to let him go... It's great that China will be with your parents - almost like getting to keep her a little bit! :D Will make the airport drop-off worthwhile!!
  22. Legalities depend on your state/territory. In NSW rabbits are declared noxious and not protected so hunting them is legal, so long as it is humane (which it isn't always when dogs are concerned) and complies with other laws like public control of dogs, private land access, firearms laws etc. Possums of any description are protected nation wide and cannot be legally hunted or killed without licence. In NZ possums are noxious and hunted just as freely as the rabbit in NSW. And like PF say, it's illegal to allow a dog to chase or hunt any animal, native or otherwise, in the ACT.
  23. Is it weird that I took a baby off to catch his flight this morning and got all teary when he left?? Shouldn't I be happy for him to have such a wonderful future?? But he seemed so alone and vulnerable when they put him in his wire crate on the luggage carriage and drove off over the big tarmac... Sigh. Little buggers getting so far under my skin... Grumble grumble... :D And now I'm sitting online waiting for an email from his owner that they're all home and safe and sound.
  24. Must be a hound thing Rebanne! We still have 9 at home - what a team of monsters they are at 11 weeks old!! Eating us out of house and home!! Two heading off this weekend, and one the next. Then two more within the next few weeks. Still two waiting... But their homes will turn up.
  25. She's lovely Burkes!! Gotta love the ears!! :D Just too sweet.
