I hate humans sometimes. Wildlife poaching really pisses me off.

How To Distinguish "good" Breeder From The "bad" One?
Alyosha replied to jebee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Also of note, not all reputable breeders are part of breed clubs (I am, in several states, but know some people aren't). Personal falling outs mean that some people avoid them - but that's not to say they are a bad breeder. In smaller breeds and clubs personalities and interactions can dictate who is prepared to be involved. -
We used to have a red saluki and she loved her Livamol. We started off with a teaspoon per feed, and ended up with a good tablespoon. You could just start with a pinch and go from there.

It was indeed!! Baby in Group at his first ever show!! I was so chuffed. Loved your baby golden! What a lovely fluffball! I knew we were in trouble for baby in show when I saw you guys!!

Have others received their numbers for the Illarwarra and South Eastern show at Berrima tomorrow? I organised a late entry with the Sec and haven't, maybe that's why... Hope the entry is in! If anyone has got them, is there a breakdown of breeds? That might help me confirm our entry.

Sorry for facebook link for those that don't have it - article copied below: https://www.facebook.com/notes/nsw-police-force/man-charged-with-inciting-dogs-to-attack-four-people-tahmoor/10150330463416394 A man has been charged after allegedly inciting his dogs to attack four people in separate incidents in Sydney’s south-west yesterday. Shortly after 4.30pm (Thursday 20 October 2011), police were called to King Street, Tahmoor, following reports two men had been bitten by dogs. Officers attached to Camden Local Area Command attended and were told the owner of the Pit Bull Terriers had incited the dogs to attack the men, aged 33 and 38. It is alleged that after one man was chased and bitten by the dogs, the other man climbed onto a nearby car bonnet to escape, however, the owner allegedly threw one of the dogs on him. Both men suffered minor wounds. A short time later police were called to a fast food shop on nearby Larkin Street after reports another man had been attacked by dogs. Camden Police attended and found the 51-year-old shop owner suffering a severe wound to his leg. The man told police he was bitten after he asked the owner of the dogs to leave his shop. NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the man before he was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for further treatment. Investigations commenced and police were made aware that a male youth had also been attacked by the dogs at nearby Tahmoor Railway Station a short time earlier. Police are yet to identify the youth. Following inquiries, a 46-year-old man was arrested at a home on Ibbotson Place, Tahmoor, shortly after 7pm. The man was taken to Narellan Police Station where he was charged with three counts of cause dog to inflict bodily harm. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on 29 November 2011. Council rangers attended the house and have seized the two dogs. Inquiries are continuing into the alleged incidents and to identify the youth attacked at the railway station. Anyone with information should contact Camden Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anybody Flying From Sydney Or Canberra To Perth Shortly?
Alyosha replied to periannath's topic in General Dog Discussion
Really? Is it a big dog? We flew two pups from Canberra to Perth recently and it wasn't near that amount. But it was with Dogtainers. The trick we found was to stipulate your flight. There is only one direct flight per day, each way between Canberra and Perth, otherwise you are looking at a change in Sydney or Melbourne which is extra travelling time as well as cost. edit for carity -
Another break down for you Alanmatic, from our recent litter - now 14 weeks old. We had 12, we kept two pups and two are still here, not having found their homes yet. So we sold 8 pups, 5 at pet price and 3 at show price, $800 and $1000 respectively = income from the litter so far of $6200 Expenses: Pre breeding and whelping vet care = $250 Purchase of whelping supplies, puppy toys, worming meds, etc = $400 Extra milk replacer, supplies and medications for post whelping complications = $200 Dewclaw removal = $300 Vaccinations & Microchipping round one= $940 Laundry expenses = $200 Food for puppies and pregnant/lactating bitch = $2000 (estimate. On average pups on their own were costing $20-$30 per day to feed from week 6 onwards) Puppy registrations = $350 Additional vet fees for transport certificates, fuel for numerous trips to vets/airports etc = $500 Export pedigree for one pup exported = $100 Vaccinations round two - $200 Total = $5390 Costs ongoing as we still have pups here. So far profit of just under 1k, but read on... With lactating mum eating as much as three adult dogs during the first few weeks, and going through a bag of milk replacer at $60 a bag every five days as well, the food bills are such that we didn't keep close track. We might have had heart failure! Feeding 12 very large breed pups as they get bigger is reminiscent of feeding a litter of piglets - the food is made in bucketloads... But entertaining!! I took annual leave from work which was paid but I missed all overtime and penalties etc. which are normally included in my income so it was lower. Only in the last couple of weeks have I been able to go back to normal extras like that, as all additional work duties etc were off limits due to puppy commitments. Lucky my work is so understanding! The price you put on that first two weeks of next to no sleep and constant never ending puppy work I don't know. But it's draining as well as emotionally and physically demanding in the extreme. However I find the most draining as they get bigger is the people interactions. Keeping track of who is who and what pup is where, which one needs extra vet work and which one is going to the airport tomorrow. The endless tyre kickes and suspicious types. It has left both me and my partner completely flat. Lucky the pups are worth every minute and every cent. And when they arrive at their new home and we get the excited emails, gorgeous photos and happy phone calls it is worth it. :D And lucky we love our vet and get to laugh with him about our choice of expensive passion. I keep telling him horse people pay more but he's not convinced.

Where Have All The Black Dogs Gone?
Alyosha replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'll admit, I'm not a Lab nut, but I love a good black. GORGEOUS! I know people must like Yellow and Chocolate but I can't understand why they would be pmore popular than black when Labs look awesome in black. -
Yep, brindle. if you shaved him right back he'd look pretty much normal brindle, but the brindling turns into those lovely washy stripes as it grows long.
-
Ours are 14 weeks now and the two big boys we staill have at home are both hovering around 16kg, their sister is 13.5... :D But still so cute!! Plus I can still fit the adults into my lap... well, some of them anyway!! So still cute. You going to be showing your babies anytime soon? I'd loooove some fluffball cuddles!!
-
Congratulations!! What wonderful news!
-
I do have this pic of him - you may have seen it already?
-
I didn't have the camera out... Was kicking myself about that when he was having a little play with Ursula - so cute!
-
His skin is really raw from the shaving - the stitches look fine. It's just the surrounding area and I think the swelling is exacerbating the effect. I haven't heard from Daisy so am crossing my fingers that means he has settled a little. He did seem tired when he left here too - I think it's still a big mental exercise for this boy to get out and socialise, after having had a one backyard sort of a life. So hopefully the mental stimulation will tucker him out and stop him worrying so much about his rashy spots! The more he thinks about it the more he thinks about it, and so on, and so on...
-
 They look GORGEOUS Dog geek!!! You must be very proud of them and their mum.
-
Do they have stars and stripes?? That would make them super rare...
-
You were right on the money Dog Geek - he has a very ordinary shaving rash. It seems to be that more than the stitches that is worrying him. As his scrotum is swollen and the rash is up alongside it it rubs whenever he's moving around. Plus he's a drama queen to boot. I got some neocort on the rashy area (you would've thought I was killing him with those gentle dabbings of cool cream... ) which seemed to help a little. Hopefully once the swelling reduces the rubbing will too. Although it is then going to get prickly as well... Hoping he is ok overnight Daisy and doesn't complain too much. He's a lovely boy though.

I know a guy who sleds with Pointers too - he has a sibe team and a pointer one. He can't recommend them highly enough.

Oh weisnjac I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope Lucy doesn't fret too much.
