  1. Oh crap BB. What a blow. I often think the same thing about puppy farmers - how do any of those pups survive?? Poor mum, I hope her one pup is keeping her occupied and she's not stressed. Hugs to you all. SBT not the washing machine!!! On the weekend as well!? We are at three and a half weeks old. Our two shifts of six have been reunited into one big swarm. Mum comes in and feeds them for an hour or two and then has time outside to herself which seems to work well. Pups are all eating well too which is taking some of the strain off her! See SBT? Wouldn't you love a massive horde of babies like this:
  2. I'm betting 8 for Cynda - 5 girls and 3 boys. :D
  3. Great news about Feonix!!! Fingers crosed your will be born in time SBT! We had a little of the same anxiety. We had a due date of Saturday, and needing them born before the Sunday in order to squeeze into baby puppy at the Oct specialty!! It all worked out, so hopefully yours will too!!
  4. Yuck. Although I have to admit I have had to leave a poo and come back with a bag. Normally when I either - think they're going to wee... or discover I have a holey bag... But I never leave it. Eww. I have seen some shockers left by show people - mousse poos indeed. And Moose sized...
  5. Awww! Allerzeit they're just gorgeous!! Love their squooshy faces!! And so lovely and glossy. Hopefully Fee is settling now and you might be able to start relaxing and enjoy them!! SBT - I had to limit tempt to twice a day or I would've gone nuts too. They'll arrive when they do. We didn't have much noticeable first stage - I just had a feeling about her and stayed home from work, and temp had been down the night before and that morning. Then by midday I was kicking myself for wasting a day off as she seemed so content and relaxed. First pup arrived at 1.30pm. :D
  6. Congratulations BMP!!! :champagne: What a lovely win! And congrats again to the Clumber - I just love the breed.
  7. Wow! Puppies everywhere!! Congratulations Allerziet!! What a lovely sized litter and balance of sexes! Maybe Fee has tender or sensitive boobs as well? Hopefully she'll settle soon. And Marinapoint your babies sound gorgeous!! Poor Aida, I hope she's finished and had some rest.
  8. Fingers crossed it all works out MissMaddy!!
  9. I think once they get their full AKC recognition it will be easier for enthusiasts to work toward greater world-wide recognition. Although they're fully recognised in Czech Republic and Slovenia now I think! I'd love to bring Chortaj to Australia, but they are not FCI recognised, only smaller countries like Czech Rep. One day... When I win the lottery I suppose... :D
  10. These ones are really lovely - with matching lead sets. A little more pricey but very nice. My linhttp://www.aringaroundthecollar.com/k eta - this one - have beautiful collars, and velvet leashes to drool over. Again more expensive, but only as much as the plain ones here in Oz: http://www.aroundthehounds.com/
  11. Wuffles from my experience it tends to be an expression used in breeds where all colours are allowable.
  12. Sorry Kavik - was thinking of the Rogs ones. eta - they're very pretty HA - but yowch! Are they always that expensive?? Mine were less that half that even with international shipping!
  13. Sweepstakes is normally on in the morning, before breed classes commence. Sometimes it's at lunchtime. But always run at a time that breed judging is not on so it doesn't clash. I love taking babies in sweepstakes. I find it really good for their confidence, as they spend more time standing about in the ring and nerves can settle - puppy and handler that is!! In the same vein it's great for new handlers. There's more time to observe (if you have a decent sized entry!) other handlers and pups, and just relax a bit.
  14. I don't have any Aussie ones sorry. I've never found really nice ones here. Blackdog ones have chains which are a no-no on our coats. I like fabric, with nice solid fittings and construction, and satin linigs. I buy from Regal Hound Designs in Canada. Offshore yes, but great collars and prices, and a % from each to Greyhound rescue in Canada. You can get even better deals from them on ebay - joetriever is the ebay ID I think... 15. Fingers crossed for you guys. SBT Sonya was due on the Saturday - from mating (we only did one - luckily!!). But I knew she was probably a day or more likely two post ovulation. She whelped on the Wednesday before her due date with no problems at all. But she was really restless and a little nesty and panty from the Sunday night. Her temp dropped the Tuesday night though. So whelping was 60 days from mating - 58 from ovulation. But my male is a very good ovulation indicator... :D So you should be getting pretty close to a safe day. Great tips Underfoot. The aspirin in particular! Another item I'd recommend for a whelping kit is a supply of "Impact" by Wombaroo. It's a colostrom supplement. When our girl's milk didn't come in pups had to be tube fed for five days, and we had all smooth sailing and no stomach upsets with Impact supplementation. When mum later got mastitis and went on ABs we had upset puppy stomachs. All the probiotic in the world wasn't helping while the ABs were still coming through (it did help after they stopped). But again supplementing with Impact helped very quickly. I was lucky I had some after the last round of wildlife caring I did - I might not have thought to buy in any more!!
  16. SOunds like lovely ideas for prizes!! And WOOT for the Junior Hound!! Gotta love the Zachy!!
  17. Oh zzz top I'm sorry you've had such a week! I hope things start to smooth out soon. Sounds like you've gone above and beyond. Sometimes there are things going on with them that we just can't do anything about. Fingers crossed for your three bubs. Will mum drink milk replacer? Divetelact or Biolac or similar?? Mine would take Palastart lamb & kid milk replacer when she didn't want anything else, even more so if I made it with fenugreek tea. SBT maybe her load has shifted and she's more comfortable? Less pressure on her stomach? Yarrowfell glad to hear your bubs are doing well. My little half-pint was the first to open his eyes too - hooray for the tiny trail blazers!!
  18. Oh - on the colour thing. All good then!! :D Have to say I like the the rubies and black and tans better... 'Specially the black & tans....
  19. Oh poor Cynda!! She must be feeling uncomfortable!! Hopefully not long to wait now!! Jetpoint ours are having extra - milk (Divetelact) with a little mince mixed in. Every time I make it up I make up more than the time before. But I never have enough!! Every meal they scoff down more and more!! The biggest eater is our tiny boy - he hoovers the plates clean after everyone else is done!!
  20. Oooo! Thankyou Korella!! Go the Clumber! What a lovely win for a very nice spaniel. :D
  21. I think it's just human nature to have a preference for certain colours, just as we like the look of different breeds I suppose. It worries me in my breed - which has all colours allowable in the standard - that some people may be so swayed by colour that they breed just for that and overlook other aspects of the dog. We all know a good dog can't be a bad colour... But sometimes people can think a dog is better than another because of it's colour which is wrong.
  22. She has thought about borrowing a hound for a little while before! She always used to get so tempted when we had Greyhound fosters... I mentioned a trap to her but she so hates to think she'll get a neighbour offside. It's a little bizarre how oblivious some people can be isn't it?? ie the cat owners. She has apparently lost one cat - hasn't seen it for weeks, and is just mildly worried!! I chased one of theirs off our (fenced) front verandah last night, near our bird cage. Think it's time to move Boris's bed out the front for a little while... Sorry to wander OT!!
  23. The one I know on Facebook is "Show your Style". There are others but can't think of the names at the moment. Another good tip - for beginner handlers and/or baby puppies is to enter Sweepstakes classes. This gives you more ringtime, and because they can be bigger classes - more downtime in the ring to help settle nerves and make it more familiar. You can also get a chance to interact with some other competitors with babies which is fun too. eta - normally with clothes I go for something fairly neutral that contrasts with your dog so that if you stand behind him/her they don't blend into you but can be clearly seen. Maybe soft apricot to contrast with a merle Aussie?
  24. I so love seeing them active! My childhood memories of my Nan's peke were of him rarely sitting still!! He used to play with us for hours!! He was such a loveable clown.
  25. Awwww! Such a cutie!!!
