Was a bit of a scary week for me. I got home on Monday to find a card on my door from the council Regulations officer with a message on the back saying please ring to discuss your dogs! Naturally I freaked out. With Lokis on going issues I was suprised it took so long. He has been escaping again after a few months of peace (long story some may remember) So I figured he had annoyed someone somehow. So I called back the next morning only to be told the guy was on a training course that day and call back on Wednesday. You would think he would mention that on his card... So a frantic day later he rang me before I got a chance too. I had been thinking all kinds of bad things. They were barking? Someone complained about him getting out? Loki looks too skinny and ratty? (shedding) So they guy tells me he had received a complaint about my dogs. Then went on to say he didnt think it was much of a complaint and not to worry. Apparently someone rang to say they had been barking all day long on Monday. My dogs are not barkers. They bark if there is something there, not if they are bored. I explained that and he said they have no problem with that. He turned up to check out the complaint and the pair were sitting quietly without the slightest noise. He even went up and patted my "miniature akitas" (lol) and the little buggers didnt even bark at him. Some guard dogs... Turns out the people across the road are doing roof repairs and my dogs thought the people on the roof were a bit creepy. Thankfully they got bored which is good because the guys were there for three days.... So the council guy was not worried at all and told me to disregard the complaint. He did let on by letting me read between the lines who it was who rang to complaint. It was my neighbour who is an elderly almost bed ridden lady. I have talked to her before because I worry about the yodelling screams I get when I get home. She always said she had no problem with my dogs because they made her feel safer as she knew they only bark if there is a reason. Obviously they just pushed her over the edge that day. Barking dogs can drive you mad so I do understand her getting annoyed. So there was my first and hopefully only complaint about the pair of nutters I'm not sure what to do now. I would give her an apology gift or something but I dont think I should let on that I knew it was her. The council guy didnt tell me outright but hinted enough for me to get it. Thank goodness they guys were nice and quiet when he came round. It is strage they didn't bark at him but hey, it worked in my favour. The poor guy thinks they are well behaved or something?

Thank you 2psinapod. I was waiting for someone to post new dog photos. The discussions above are interesting but not what I want to wade through in here.... -

Dagnabbit. I wanted to post a photo of a long haired Shiba but my photobucket isnt working right now -
No matter how deserted the place you can always run into another dog walker! I walk my dogs down a track that is a bit away from where I live. Yesterday I had a guy with two unleashed dogs who rushed up to mine. The guy was really apologetic and said the last few times he walked there he hadn't seen anyone so he thought it was safe to let his off lead. OT, but one of his dogs was a little chi who kept trying to sniff Wylies backside. I have never seen a shiba try and curl his tail down between his legs to protect his bits before (for those that dont know, their tails are held up over their backs in a tight curl that doesn't straighten out much)

I saw a lady walking a shiba in Elwood when I was over in Melbourne a few weeks ago. I kinda did a double take and squeaked "shiba!" She gave me an odd look and pulled the dog a little closer to her... -

Sorry I have nothing against people who are vegetarian. It is their own choice after all. I have been ranted at by some all about how eating meat makes you an evil animal killer. It works both ways. But seriously, so much crap goes on with our food that if we all took it to heart we would starve to death. Back to topic, my mum had an evil blood sucking weasel a ferret. It was a teeny thing named fee fee (yes, seriously!) that used to raid my bag and steal my morning tea snacks so when I would get to work I had nothing to eat. The sadistic blood sucker cute little thing would stash them in my mums drawer and she would find this horde of stolen food festering away. I like ferrets, and the "pronging" is so cute! (I know what you mean there) But doubt I'd get one any time soon. Just dont eat it afterwards. That would make you an uncouth animal killing hunter. Agree with you there Staranais, a friend guilt tripped me out of enjoying my yogurt last month after telling me the facts about gelatine. I decided I like yogurt, and ignored him....

Moselle, I hope you enjoyed that tasty vegetarian bake you mentioned a few pages back. Obviously you have no problems with the fact that millions of animals are killed, shot, poisoned, electrocuted, ect every year just to keep those tasty vegies safe until they get to you. So a few thousand fruit bats and parrots die every year in very slow painful deaths, all tangled up in netting protecting the fruit you buy, not to mention the thousands of wallabies and possums poisoned just to keep them off the crops that provide you with your meals. If I was an animal, I'd choose sudden death by hunter or farmer rather than the above. Wouldn't you? At least people can choose to buy ethically killed meat. Vegetables dont come with signs saying "No wallaby was poisoned slowly by 1080 to provide you with this tasty bunch of silverbeet"

just watched the video. I feel sorry for the lion in the back ground who stayed on his stool "I'm being a good boy, see, where's my treat!" Bet he never got one that day.

They are often advertised in the paper here in Tas.... usually with a "rare red colour" tag and an inflated pricetag to match...

Look at the second listing... http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/mature/shiba-inu.asp -
If I won tatts I would buy a shikoku. It's my dream dog. However I'm not smart enough nor rich enough to import them here to breed for the sake of breeding a rare breed. Some shikokus have quite a wild temperament and are still a bit feral. If you love the look so much try looking at maybe finding an agouti siberian husky? Seriously gorgeous! (google them! wow )

Spoil him! feed him all the treats he wants, take him places he loves and dont bother to tell him off if he is bad (obviously this is only if it's not going to affect things in public)

Not For Those Who Don't Like Spiders!

This made me lol. -
Yes. Loki was always very obedient (for a shiba) and would listen to me. He was very mum focused and eager to please. I got Wylie and he stopped listening. Just stares at me and walks off! Little bugger.......
