  1. I have been doing that Erny. Getting him to sit and drop. It distracts him from the fence. I dont make a fuss of him dont worry. With these two the slightest give and they will take all you got. Not a dog to spoil, the shiba. ( they turn into gremilns if you spoil them)He isn't as anxious now. He is back outside and on his rug. I hope whatever it is has passed
  2. dancinbcs, He is fixed. The other dog however isn't and he is sleeping happily. He seems to be settling a bit now and has stopped wimpering. Its been stinking hot today and it has now just started to rain. Could it be something as simple as the change of weather?
  3. I tried that. But with more swearwords... He is normally very lazy and calm. This is very out of character for him
  4. Ok, I have let him stay inside but he wont settle.
  5. Loki has spent the last few nights trying to get out! He is scratching and wimpering at the hole in the fence he got out of last time. There is nothing on the other side that he is after and Wylie doesnt care less. He is really anxious about it . Now tonight he ran inside when I opened the back door. He hates being indoors and tries to get back outside if he is in. He is running around and seems anxious but I cant work out why! He wont leave the hole alone and his scratching at it is driving me nuts. What could be upsetting him and how can I get him to calm down?
  6. I would say Shiba except for the letting them run around an oval bit. Apart from that they are small and active, happy to live indoors or out and really only need brushing when they blow coat. But off lead....... I wouldnt.
  7. Loki grew up with a GSP cross which belonged to my ex. When we broke up he would get excited everytime he saw a big brown dog that looked like my ex's dog. He wasn't recognising a breed but what he remembered from growing up from a puppy. He may react the same with other shibas? I have never come across one to find out.
  8. What an interesting thread! I had wondered about this myself. I think maybe they recognise similar dogs to ones they know, not actually a breed? A thought anyway.
  9. Loki frequently cocks his leg to poo (tad confused, my boy) On the subject, it's interesting because I always know when he needs to go. When we are walking first sign is his tail goes down instead of carrying it up in a tight curl on his back. Then after a bit he will sort of start to hunch over as he walks. Then eventually when he cant hold on any longer he will give in and stop and poo. Stopping the walk to let him go before he is ready doesn't work. Strange dog that
  10. I have lost count the amount of times people have told me that dogs "will sort them self out" if they were all of lead. As Tilly said, its quite common. People are stupid Hope Sonny is ok and I'd report it. You never know, others may have the same problem with her one day.
  11. Its in Lonnie. I haven't seen any frenchies here before until then.
  12. Hey Frodos mum. I thought these dogs looked a little familiar and then noticed your here in Tas. Were you walking your dogs by the Seaport a few evenings ago?
  13. We are getting this exhibition at the museum I work at in September. I was looking forward to seeing this photo:(
  14. catzatsea, where are you, I'm seriously going to steal your dogs.........
  15. I have been trying to run with my dogs. Trying being the word. But its not all the dogs fault. I make it about a hundred metres and die . Well, I used to but after months of dedicated work I now make at least two hundred before I die! Apart from the fact that I run like a girl I am very unfit I have problems with running with my two dogs. Wylie is great, runs out in front and can keep going for hours. He loves running with me. Loki on the other hand... Will not break out of a trot. Ever! No matter how fast I run he trots along behind me, never breaking pace. If he was a horse I'd be making a fortune on the pacing track That in its self wouldn't be a problem but he also decides after a short way that he is over it and tries to stop. Which is great because I can pretend its the dogs fault I have to stop, not the fact that I am about to keel over and cark it So my running consists of me running along holding one dog back, dragging the other forward...
  16. Hope he feels better. I love looking at photos of Snot!
  17. Except when there is poo to roll in and make those pretty white cheeks brown..............
  18. Noooo! Whoever told you that lie? *goes off to delete thread about her dogs escaping...*
  19. I look at it this way. All the pros and cons of owning a shiba can be found in many other popular breeds. Yes, they have a high prey drive, so do a lot of terriers. Poor recall, same as most spitz breeds. Can be dominant with other dogs, so can a lot of bull breeds. As long as you are prepared for the cons and can take steps to minimise or prevent them then any breed shouldn't be a problem to own.
  20. * Mutters "I'll get you yet, my pretty little Jayco" * Actually, a cat on the other side of the fence would stop them. They are scared of cats Fence is tin and its set in concrete. No way of staking anything. But the bricks have worked. Which they should have because I used heaps. Day three, dogs are both still in the yard. I cant believe it has taken all these years for them to discover this way out...
  21. Foiled again At least it has become more of a game now and they dont run away but come running to my front door to tell me they are out. Little rotters. This time I have used a pile of bricks behind the loose piece of tin. We shall see how that goes.
  22. Aha! Found it . Was sitting here and realised they were in the front yard again so I chucked them back and they obligingly went straight back to the hole. It was the one weal point I checked already. They are pulling the tin over and squeezing through. It took them 5 years to figure this out??? Not the brightest sparks these dogs Now I need to find a way to prevent them from doing it.
  23. It is tricky. I have lived here for about 5 years and they havent busted out yet. (well, Loki got out once when another dog dug under the fence) Its mainly concrete around the fence line so I only have three weak points. All are secure I tried going out the front and calling them but they just stood at the gate grinning at me. Why is it so weird that I dont lock the gate? Its not that dodgy around here and my neighbours are usually home all day. I did think about locking it when I moved in to stop anyone stealing the dogs but soon got sick of unlocking it all the time Just got back from walking them and Wylie was worn out before we started. Looks like someone had enjoyed himself today. He has rolled in poo somewhere too .
