  1. Hi Vehs.. My mothers Lab got this aswell.. we took him to the vet years ago he is about 12 -13 now and the vet said it happens when they get excited. He doesn't get all that excited now though ye old fella!. Hiya Yappy, My sisters rescue dog TACO, had/has a lump around that area, turned out it was a hernia...? He did have one removed before she got him but there is another small one there, she has had him to the vet re that plus he had KC, not sure what she is doing re it, it could have been removed not sure. AWW teddy... what a cute little scruffy bum!
  2. What do you feed? Veggies/fruit (mushed up in Food processor) mainly, carrot, pumpkin, coconut, beans, whatever really..chicken mince (pet - gound up carcass), chicken mince (human), chicken necks, lamb off cuts, lamb shanks, lamb necks sardines, mackeral, sometimes yoghurt, apple cider vinegar, add some kelp every now and again some honey sometimes.. also if i haven't defrosted he gets some Supercoat lifestyle kibble. How often.. In the morning mainly, weekdays, weekend, he will have a lamb bone in te morning, and one day for a fast. How much? I don't really measure/weigh the amount he gets, if he looks like he he could use a little more, then he gets a little more, little less then he gets a little less. If he gets the kibble (cause of my slackness) then its about a handfull, usually with some natural yoghurt if i have it. For the fish, he gets the tin of sardines, lamb off cuts, has the whole bone, chicken necks about 2-3. What breed... West Highland White Terrier, 17months, 8.2kg (me thinks) Where do i purchase... Veggies/fruit and bones are mainly from the supermarket, chicken mince and pet mince, from chicken shop. have i always fed this diet. I did when i first got Harvey, then stopped for a while ths then went back to it. When i did change back i just changed over cold turkey, sure he didn't eat for a day or two but loves it now. Advatages.. Looks good, teeth are good coat and skin are great, less poo, no ahem... passing wind. Plus i know what he is getting etc. Disadvantages.. It does take a longer than just opening a tin of food and a little less space in the freezer. Changes in my dog.. I think he looks alot better (not that he didn't look good when he was on a pet food roll thing) but he just looks and me thinks feels better.
  3. Have you tried the Supercoat "lifestyle" range? The Sensitive one is chicken and rice based... i haven't seen it in the supermarkets where the other supercoat ones are but have seen them at pet supply stores... Jump on the supercoat site and have a looksy, it should list the ingredients on there.. :p
  4. Feed twice about 7 am and anything from 5 - 7pm for dinner.
  5. I am so sorry to hear of you loss, what a beautiful girl. RIP Shelley.
  6. I just use a tooth brush with water (he is still getting use to it) so haven't invested in any sort of doggy tooth paste... It was really a case of i had a spare tooth brush plus a bit of boredom so i started brushing his teeth just for the hell of it.. sad really LOL!
  7. Cost depends on the size of the greenie and the size of the greenie depends on the size og your dog... you can get them from ost pet supply store. I just looked at those little tooth brush things, i have been trying to do harveys teeth but its a little hard with a big toothbrush, want to get one of those slip on ones. It took a while for harvey to like the greenies, i had to kind of cut the top a little bit then he started to chew it...

    Sorry for your loss.
  9. I already knew about barf when researching for harves..I fed him a raw diet for months then i got lazy but now back on raw food and bones (i wouldn't call what i feed him stricly BARF though) chicken mince and vege. He also gets a little dry food. He loves it now.
  10. I've heard about grapes not being good for them, also macadamia nuts are not good. Although this info comes from my sister (i generally take 10% off for her artistc license but is about a dog she knew so i have taken note of it) Apparently the macadamia nuts give the same symptoms as a tick, back legs go etc etc. Now, this happened to a BC who was snacking on about 20 or so nuts, the vet had to shave her trying to find a tick - nothing, then when asked what she had eaten they told the vet and the vet told them about the nuts... ... dog is fine now Just a quick question - what about strawberries. Ok, so i am attempting to grow strawberries (and lettuce), i dont really have what you could say "a green thumb" so more than likely i will have no strawberries (the lettuce is going great guns) but they are in a pot at "harvey level" and i think i remember something of them not being good... or was it they are alright for dogs...??
  11. I thought apple was ok for dogs to eat... a lady i know use to give her dog a whole apple to much on for a treat...???
  12. Thats good of the vet to do that. I hope you little pup starts feeling better soon.
  13. For harvey i have used Interceptor and advantage for fleas. Now i am using Sentinal Spectrum which does all worms (inc Tape worm) and fleas. For ticks, i just do daily checks. Frontline plus does work for ticks but needs to be applied every two weeks i think for it to work have tried it but harves had a reaction to it. Economically, ordering online is the best way to do it, will save you heaps!!
  14. If your dogs are anything like harvey (sook) then you may have to take it off the cat and give it to him... the cat took harveys bone was he just sat there and whinged until i got it for him... he loves "his" cat and wouldn't want to hurt his feelings LOL
  15. Harvey was doing the same thing with it at first - just was not interested in it at all until the cat went and carried it away from the couch he burried it in. The i got it for him and gave it to him, he just licked it at first then realised he could eat it.
  16. Well i got a large greenie.. it did say that harvey (going on his weight) would only need a petite but then looking at the large it says that they are better for dogs that "gulp" he burried it in the couch first then the cat found it so then he wanted it.. ate it all except the top tooth brush looking bit. Just thought i would give them a go, being high in protein though he may only get one every now and again and just be less paranoid about him and bones! He ate all his breakfast this morning and didn't have any tummy probs last night but will definately remember that inpector rex..
  17. Poor little guy being so sensitive - he is a spunky little fellow.. i think i shall get Harves a bigger one at least then i wont worry as much with is going down his throat...
  18. Thanks L.B. for the offer but the pet supply shop down the road sells them Individually (my house looks like his shop. LOL). I drop in this afternoon. So your Godzy has allergies/sensitive skin and he was fine with the greenies and you give him the petite sized ones (am assuming he is around the same size as harvey)?? I know i will end up watching him eat the thing just incase
  19. Yeah i have seen the tooth stuff for dogs. I think i might just see how he goes with the brushing before i go out and buy some toothpaste etc, will probably end up getting some greenies when next at the shop , he more than likely wont like them, he doesn't really like any chew things like that but shall see how he goes if they are as tasty as they claim to be then he might.
  20. Harvey isn't allergic (dont think he is) to wheat i have just read it brings out allergies so i have always steered clear of it because of him being a westie, just paranoid, i think i may give them a go, have also heard about the poos LOL. I am a bit like that L.B. as soon as i hear the bone crushing i take it off him after having to reef a few out of his throat before, i'm getting better though but he still never has a bone alone or out in the yard. I was thinking about brushing them, i do have a spare toothbrush, should i just do this with water or get that doggie toothpaste stuff. I mean the build up is not much but it annoys me.
  21. Thanks L.B. It would be great to know whats in them as i try to steer away from things that have wheat in them or anything that may have some effect on his skin etc and am also getting a little cautious with bones as harvey thew up after having one and there were little bits of bone in it, probably a little paranoid i know but just looking at some alternatives.
  22. Hi All Just having a look into Greenies am thinking of getting some for Harvey, i have had a look at a few sites to try and see what is in them and have also searched on here, but all i can find is that they are "all natural human grade ingredients". How have people found them? I am wanting to try them for Harveys teeth as i had a look at them and they have a little build up of tarter - not much but enough to annoy me, he gets bones and is fed raw etc, just looking into them.. any thoughts?
