  1. Harvey's favourites are dried lamb, roast chicken and cheese, will do anything for any of these.
  2. schnauzer, i am sorry to hear what happened to your dogs. My Boy did have a slight reaction to frontline (am trying to think if it was frontline plus or just frontline) either or it was a top spot treatment. Where i put it between the shoulder blades within say an 1/2 hour of it being on him his skin was red, and flaky, just in that one spot but it did seem to spread (not large about the size of a *looks around office* a roll of sticky tape  over a couple more weeks. It took ages to go away, i have never used it again and wont be using it again. He had no problems with advantage just this one time i used frontline.
  3. Inky, Your boy sounds exactly like Harvey to a 'tee'. He wouldn't chew bones (wings, necks) he would inhale them meaning i would have to stick my hand in his mouth and get it. He also refused to eat his new diet when i changed back to RAW, he hated it, he maybe didn't eat a full meal for about three days. But, do you know what he loves on his vegies and chicken mince... coconut. Perhaps give that a try or find something that he really likes. Now i can leave out the coconut and change what vegies and fruit are in it and he scoffs it down. He now can have a meal of just chicken necks... i simply cut a neck in half or thirds (depending on size) and he actually crunches them up now, it was like he had to learn to chew again or something BUT i only give them to him when i am there at night and say "i wanna hear crunching" LOL so perhaps cutting them up may help... still not game to try a wing though . But recently have got my hands on some lamb necks so will be giving them a try (just reminded myself it get it ot of the freezer)
  4. Ashley I am so sorry to hear of you loss my thoughts are with you. RIP Kumo.
  5. I don't often bath Harvey, if he needs to be done then he goes to the groomer ("needing" meaning that he needs to be stripped and i am totally hopeless at that so off he goes) and comes back bathed and looking nice. If he does decide it would be fun to run around in the muddy yard and come back looking like top deck chocolate then it is in the bath tub for him or simply a matter of brushing it out with a bit of his conditioner.
  6. mmm shall have a look out for these me thinks it may actually work out cheaper for me.
  7. Homemade - I know what is going in it - only have the one dog (small) so it doesn't take that long - have got the prep down pat now so there isn't much mess, Set up three BIG bowls along the bench and a glass of wine for me 1. KG mince in each vege and other stuff other in the other to put in processor, puree, bag and freeze. Done and done. Drawback - REALLY annoying if i forget to buy freezer bags .
  8. Rozzie, i'm sorry to here that. *hugs*
  9. Oh, i hope the little tike feels better soon. Hope yor feelig better too keels.
  10. Hope the little guy feels better soon Keels. Please keep us updated.
  11. Thanks for that shall look into it, he also gets sardines/mackeral ,fruit and vege and the odd egg..
  12. Could someone answer this one for me too? Harvey's diet os basiclly chicken and i tend to steer clear of beef, he does get lamb though.
  13. I use the Jalna natural yoghurt when we buy it - BF uses it for smoothies and the rest is for Harvey. He loves it. OR just Pauls natural yoghurt.
  14. aww shucks, thanks, thats him with his dinosaur thingy.. Greenies, you can pick them up at the vets and pet supply stores, they are green (LOL) shaped kind of like a toothbrush. Get the one recommended for your dogs weight, it will be on the packet, plus the smaller ones are cheaper. They are also high in protien so if my boy has one it is generally given to him as a meal. Just see how they go on them, it has been mentioned on here before that some dogs get an upset tummy, although i have not found this with Harvey. If you do try them - harvey didn't like them and still doesn't start to chew at first i just get a knife and cut little slits into them then he starts and then its gone! You could always brush their teeth... now thats a fun experience Greenies Edit to add link
  15. I have a nylabone dinosaur shaped thing, apparently chicken flavoured, Harvey really likes it although the head is looking a bit sudd so may be on it way to the bin. The are a little $$ but worth it me thinks. This dino one cost me about $20 from memory, online place would have them cheaper.
  16. My boy did/does the same thing, he is getting heaps better at chewingthough. Have you tried larger bones like lamb off/flaps cuts or brisket bones? You could always try Greenies.
  17. OMG.. really that big .. YIKES! ;)
  18. Brookside is close, shall duck over. Turkey necks are rather large arne't they? So one or two could be a meal? Also, and a bit off the chicken neck topic, but is anyone finding that the home brand sardine tins are dissapearing off the shelves? Everytime for the last 3 weeks (checking a couple of times a week too) i have gone to get some and end up having buy the $1 something tins. There are just none in the space tey are usually, but the ticket is still there with the price and brand just no tins? EDIT:- The one on Sherwood Road.
  19. Do you mean the Brisbane MEat Market at Rocklea?
  20. Harvey does do the same thing your Nova did. Just licks it and leaves it, thats when the cat comes into action (i can't exactly return it to the shop once he has licked it LOL) he does this everytime i give him one (he has only probably had about 4 of them) He seems to enjoy them once he gets started but it does take him a while to show intrest, i even kinda of cut into it to try an make it perhaps smell more appealing to him ;)
  21. Harvey gets one maybe once a week, it takes him a while to actually want to chew it though, the cat has to show an intrest in for hom to ;) . They are high in protein (think 52% protein) so if he does get one, it is as a meal. Some dogs can get an upset tummy from them, i haven't had this prob with them but just get the size relevent to your dogs weight. They are pretty $$ for larger dogs though.
  22. I usually get the necks and his mince at lenards just down the road. Rocklea isn't far may go there for some turkey on the weekend. I'll pick some necks up this afternoon (the cat cleaned me out) ;)
  23. thanks molasseslass, i have been in the process of getting him to chew bones again, with the help of greenies and finally finding a good bag of lamb bones it has been taking a while but he is finally is really getting down (over the last week or so) and having a good chomp on them and can even get through a biggish lamb off cut now. When i do cut the necks in half this seems to make him chew it where as if i give it to whole, thats when he swallows :D . I buy necks for the cat (who can handle anything ) and so i just cut a bit for Harves he chomped on it, so i was rather happy. But can you feed necks everyday for like a week or more, not as a meal all the time but was just thinking about digestion or something?.. His teeth are not all that bad but are bad enough to make me think if they are not better in a month or so he will have to get them done at the vet. ;) Kitkat:- Will keep my eyes out for turkey.. after xmas should be good, dont often see it around my area.
  24. Just wondering how often you could feed a dog chicken necks, could you give say around 2-3 necks (or more/less??) as a meal every day for however long? Basically, i was looking at Harvey's teeth and i want them whiter, its mainly the molar ones (think) towards to back and his canines are just a little discoloured too. Chicken wings are a no go cause he gags although if i do find a biggish one will give him a go (supervised) he is fine with the necks if they are choped in half or 1/3 depending how long it is, he crunches them all up. He also has lamb off cuts but they are also fatty and am still trying to get his system use to it as sometimes they give him the runs as he doesn't have it often..
  25. Ditto Cordelia, i love aloveen its great. I have the conditioner in a pump spray bottle thing and give Harves the odd spray to help detangle also makes it last a heap longer... smells lovely too.
