  1. From 1970 to 1993 my parents owned and bred Boxers. A beautiful breed. Many good friends back in NZ still own and breed with great success. My first dog I owned was a Boxer. For the show ring and obedience.
  2. Apart from the one puppy that had a just over the mark positive, after a vac, have I missed where all the other pups have had confirmation that they have the virus?????? Did you have the rest of them tested for anything else as well. Another Virus, bacteria?
  3. I second that. To everyone else.... If you dont like what I say that is your choice. It is my choice to give my opinion. Been around the dog show and breed world for a long time. I tell it like it is. As I said before...it is the real world out there. Now lets get back to the topic on hand shall we.
  4. Thanks everyone There is something about the yearly injection that I just dont like. Would rather do monthly. I think I am going to stick with the Proheart and then do their advantix in the middle of the month of having their heartworm. Will have to take her for a weigh in.
  5. Your behaviour indicates you needed pulling up. The number of litters is NOYFB anyhow, and this is not the time to raise it. And as far as "the situation" goes, I would have thought it might have taught you a little consideration and empathy for others.\ Apparently not. Don't expect any assistance or sympathy from the majority of forum users now, when you find yourself in a similar situation to the op. We know what you will expect The purpose of this forum is to assist dogs and owners, not to heap criticism and approbation on them when they need advice. You don't have to follow that purpose, of course, but your behaviour has been noted and will be remembered. What will I expect Jed? Is that a warning or a threat? I asked some questions. So did others. I have consideration and empathy on lots of things. Are you the boss round here? So sorry didnt know. I told the poster that I thought her vets opinion was way off. I asked the poster how many litters as obviously these ones certainly werent planned ones. And I was concerned at the time that maybe a bit of PF was going on. The kind of questions that many other people have posted on other topics. have you jumped down their throats as well cause they happened to be concerned? So sorry Jed if I offended you and others. Sorry Minky to hear of your loss.
  6. Jed Pull your own head in I am not the only one who asked these questions OK! The situation you may be talking about but which you had no right to bring up on this thread has nothing to do with the questions I asked.
  7. its the real world out there gareth just in case no one has clicked perfect, I am far from it. Have never claimed to be yes it must be devastating to lose puppies,
  8. While in hospital recovering from surgery my girls came on season together! My daughter was staying here minding my dogs. And actually 2 of the girls were early. I've been breeding for about 6 years. My Vet told me Parvo can live in the soil for up to 12 months and I think it may be a bit longer in shaded or damp areas.(he never said 3 years) plus my pups had not been outside in that area, I have fenced off areas. The puppy area is always washed down with a Vet used disinfectant as well. I have always had my pups 1st vaccination at 6 weeks as that's what my vet recommends. All my dogs are kept up to date with vaccinations, heatworm, worming and flea treated. Only one pup from one litter had been sick when the 2nd litter was vaccinated if you would care to read again. and yes you do seem insensitive to a certain extent and I'm not an idiot! I wanted to know if anyone has experienced this type of parvo before! Or if someone could shed some light on whats going on with any breakouts. If your vet told you Parvo can live in the soil for 12 months then your vet knows crap. If you were sick at the time your girls came into season and the litters were unplanned then that is wrong. It does happen yes but it never makes it right. What breeds are they? No I am not insensitive really. Parvo is parvo. If one of the puppies tested just a tad over ???????? then that puppy should of stayed with the vet in a parvo area not sent back home. Unless autopsys have been performed then it could be anything. Yes parvo can be detected by a blood test. How many litters have you bred in the 6 years? Sounds like a few
  9. Why so many litters at once? Have you been breeding for a long time. If you have already had a case of parvo on your property albeit 3 years ago, then you must of been aware that the virus can live in the soil for many years. Why vaccinate so early. Was the dam of all the puppies vaccinated. Has the vet confirmed it is parvo or not? What do you mean a tad over the positive mark. If she had just been vaccinated then she would have a positive test. A live vaccine is used. If you have had puppies sick from one litter why vaccinate the rest of the litters when you know that something is not right. Their immune system could be compromised. Yep all these questions. No I am not being insensitive.
  10. The big furkids are on Proheart once a month heartworm tablets. The bubba is on interceptor once a month tablet which covers heartworm, tapeworm etc etc. She was wormed on the 1st of November so will need to do her again soon. Now Maggie is over 20 kgs but will reach at least 50 kgs when adult. I would like to change to her to Proheart and then middle of the month do her other worming. What should I be looking at getting for her. The big fella has Proheart yellow cause he is well over 46 kgs. The other girls have Proheart red cause they are steady on 45kgs. Would I start her on Proheart red first? Until she reaches 45 kgs which wont be for quite awhile.
  11. simple answer YES we always separate our dogs when we go out. Anything unforseen can happen.
  12. Is it one of her inscisors or a canine? It can affect adult teeth placement if left Do you show at all. Sorry for all the questions. I have just loosened and removed a lower baby inscisor out of my girl. Chances are it would of come out by itself at some stage but if it doesnt it can or may have an effect on the adult teeth coming through. Post us a pikky please. How old is she?
  13. Yes good old staples. they stapled Morgs after she was spayed. I had to take her back to get them removed. when Abbey was spayed and because i had mentioned that I can remove my own sutures they didnt staple abbey so I didnt have to take her back
  14. If someone pays $3000 for a bulldog puppy in this country then there is a bulldog pup in this country thats worth $3000. No one is saying anyone should breed dogs to make money but what sort of idiot would deliberately try to loose money in order to make other people think they are more likely breeding for the betterment of the breed ? if they spend x amount of money and they can get more of that x amount of money back why in heavens name do you want them to do it and loose money if they dont have to. Even charities dont operate to loose money! How long have you been breeding Bulldogs for? How long have you owned the breed? No one deliberately tries to lose money, but it is not about making money in the first place. Unless that is what you and others do. Its about improving the breed. A breeder may get one puppy, they may get ten. Of course if that one puppy has good potential then they are going to have a loss because they are going to keep it. What do they do about it?(well the dedicated breeders anyway) They carry on and put it down to better luck next time if there is a next time. Very rarely do Bulldog breeders break even. There is no Bulldog puppy in this country worth $3,000.00 Everyone is entitled to their opinion. To be honest I dont give a rats arse if people pay that price. Its their money. But that price is exactly why BYB do what they do. They have pushed up the price. Quite simple really. Of course it is not going to deter the BYB. When they have litter after litter, and very rarely keep anything except to carry on with so a year down the track that bitch can breed. I have seen alot of beautiful Bulldogs over the last 30 years. I have also met alot of people that breed for the money. They have no idea what they are doing with pedigrees, or breeding type to type. They have a dog, they have a bitch. They know they can sell the puppies for x amount of dollars. Hence my first post on this subject. I have no problem with people disagreeing with what I say but please dont turn around and tell me that we should be breeding for the money. Or in otherwords..I personally dont give a damn whether or not a litter of puppies I breed makes money. I look upon my hobby of owning dogs as just that. It is not a business to me. What everyone else does is up to them If I can improve the breed to make their world happier, and if I can breed an excellent example of the breed then that is what I thrive for.
  15. There is no Bulldog puppy in Australia worth $3,000.00. Even with the time, effort and money that a breeder puts into the breed. Breeding for the betterment of the breed does not mean that they can charge x amount of money because they spend x amount of money on the litter. More fool the person who pays that amount of money for a Bulldog. But I am only a novice in the breed. What do I know. eta and more fool the person who puts up their hand to say that they would pay $3,000.oo for a puppy. Or that say that they are worth that price because they are not. The Bulldog gene pool is huge. But that is not to say that the breeding stock is quality.
  16. It matters not about what the cost is to raise and feed a baby Bulldog. What matters is the quality of the puppies. 30 years ago we paid $800.00 for our puppy. 4 years ago we sold our last puppy for $1800.00. The day a breeder can justify and convince to me why their puppy is worth $3,000.00 is the day I woud buy one. You breed for the betterment of the breed, to improve, to strive for excellence. Not for the money.
  17. Anyone who pays more than $2,500.00 for a Bulldog needs help. And even then that is way too much. Any breeder who charges more than $2,500.00 better be offering a completely sound stunning show potential and breeding puppy. And I know that some breeders do alot of health checks. But that is only my opinion. What do I know? Obviously money plays a huge part in some breeders programs Not just with Bulldogs.
  18. None of the above Its all to do with inflation and the rise in interest charges on mortgages.
  19. I am trying to figure out what planet the lady has been brought up on Definately aint earth
  20. Ringworm has a distinctive ring to it. Some ringworm doesnt show under ultraviolet light. Maybe he has caught his ear somewhere and has pulled the hair off. Does it look red or sore.
  21. Morgan will speak on command. She will also speak when it is breakfast time And she will speak when it is dinner time Just havent been able to find that off button
  22. the dog may also have a high metabolism. he may be exercising more than he receives in food input or he may have a thyroid problem
  23. without seeing a picture or knowing what the breed is........ (is there suppose to be a picture) I always feed my large breeds twice a day, in fact i feed all my breeds twice a day. if travelling they dont get feed if going early but get fed after we have arrived and they have settled. Large breeds especially deep chested dogs are very susceptable to gastric torsion and one way to try to help prevent this is to feed twice a day and not one large meal once a day
