  1. I always add extras to the kids meals Have just sorced mixed boxes of offal from work for a really really good price. My spayed girls get 2 cups of supercoat per day(1 cup morn and night) plus a couple of peices of dog roll each and they have got plenty of weight on them(they think they could always have more LOL) Mind you they dont have alot of exercise. Even out in the kennels they are just chilling out. the big fella and Maggie get more obviously 1 bag of sc lasts my 4 kids 2 weeks, thats with added extras as well
  2. I'm not afraid to say that I'm very happy with the quality of Uncle Alber's UA makes up the majority of my dog's diet. He gets UA every night with one sardine (also gets one raw egg a week and bones on weekends). I just came back from walking him and when we got to the front door I looked down at him and thought, "damn you look good!". He is lean with a beautiful, soft, shiny coat. Can't be unhappy with that! I just googled and I see there is a distributor in Warwick which is close by but not in my general direction. I am going to the warwick show next weekend so may stop in and see what they have. How much does the 22kg bag cost?????? I realise prices may vary depending on where you live. Has anyone got a bag handy to give me a protein/fat breakdown please doesnt matter I see it is on the website. Protein range is a bit too high for me but i may get a bag to see how they go on it with a mix
  3. Souff has the utmost respect for vets and their patience and diplomacy. Most busy vets would scarcely have a day where they didn't have some of the incidents you mention. Souff would have throttled half the fibbers. Saw enough of it with dogs that didn't get groomed ..... and heard enough of the excuses of how it was always somebody elses fault that the dog now needed medical treatment because of neglect! Heard enough of "those tablets didnt work!" stories too. No, they don't work very well if they are still sitting in the container! Would I take an owner's word that a dog was dangerous if I were a vet? You bet I would. If they didnt want the dog and sent them back home with the unwanted dog, then the dog is going to develop issues, if he hasn't already, and a large breed with "issues" is not the sort of animal that can safely live with little children in society. And I am pleased to say that most of the vets I know would have put that dog down the first time the owner asked for it to be done. Payment can be chased up later, if there is a problem. It wouldn't be the first time and it wont be the last. LITTLE KIDS COME FIRST. Dangerous dogs like this one in the hands of idiot owners is simply a lethal incident waiting to happen. The cost of the green dream and disposal of the dog would be a small investment in the protection of little children and I would sleep well at night. Allowing this dangerous dog to go back home with the owner brought consequences that cannot be as easily fixed. Also, it is not the vet's role to doubt the claims of the owner. Sometimes a handler gets the job of taking a dog to the vet for euthanasia after a nasty incident. The vet has to take the word of the handler that the dog is deemed to be dangerous and does what has to be done - professionally. Ethics before emotion. Every time. Souff I wholeheartly agree with what you say.
  4. exactly ellz I have 4 large breed dogs. My two spayed bitches are constantly on a diet as they will bulk on the weight at the smell of food. I have always been told that your dogs are what you feed them in the end result. There are some brands that I would like to try which have been mentioned here and on other threads but I cant find them in Toowoomba. Until I can find something else which the dogs will do even better on and is within my budget the Supercoat is for them.
  5. Where does the stinky poo come from????? I mix a dog roll and offal with my dogs food and I still dont get to pick up stinky dog poo. Am I missing out on something. Actually my hubby does poo patrol during the week and he would be the first t0 say something if they did pong. Maybe my dogs dont have the stinky poo gene?????
  6. It must be such poor quality that my dogs thrive on it. I cant afford to feed the Proplan or Hills or Eukanuba. I dont have a money tree in my back yard. Realisticly I have to look at the cost factor. I go through one bag of large breed a fortnight, but they also get dog roll, chicken mince etc. The dogs toilets are a little softer if they have just had the bikkies. Each to their own with what you can afford or what you think may work. I get the chicken large breed. I find the supercoat way better than a few of the other brands I have purchased.
  7. It was my understanding that dog/bitch neuters in each breed dont/arent allowed to compete for cc. They are judged in their class after opens but only come back in the ring to find the best neuter of breed. Do they then go foward to find the est neuter of each group and then in show? So they are still being judged in their breeds, which is what I think should be happening. There are many beautiful examples which have had to be neutered and still get to show off against the entire stock would be great. Good for the public to see them as a whole in the breeds. Many times the neutered stakes just get a cursory glance.
  8. Yep I will be in to that. Qld is so backward in coming forward. I will add my name to a petition.
  9. absolutely horribly traumatic BUT!!!!! what the hell is going on Its either a Bullmastiff or a Neo!!!!!!!!! What the hell is going on with these people The dog attacked a child already the vet could not put the dog down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sick of all this crap that goes on sorry but that is my vent A DAD stabbed his dog to death after it savaged his two-year-old daughter - ripping off her jaw. Gareth Sim killed the Neapolitan mastiff with a kitchen knife when it bit little Taylor Leadbeater's face. Neighbours said Gareth, 31, chased the dog called Trigger into the garden and punched and kicked it, before stabbing it to death. One said: "He was playing with the dog and he turned away and it bit the girl on the face. He chased it out into the garden and stabbed it. He was covered in blood and holding a knife saying, 'I killed the dog, he bit my girl'." Taylor was "stable" on a ventilator last night after an operation at London's St Thomas' Hospital. Huge ... Neapolitan mastiffShe needed 70 stitches to deep lacerations to her jaw and mouth. She also has a ripped tear duct. Police and paramedics were called to the family home in Eltham, South London, on Monday afternoon. Distraught mum Charlene Leadbeater, 23, and Gareth, who also have a five-year-old son Ronnie, were at her bedside as she prepared for further face re-building operations. Charlene sobbed: "She is too sick to talk about anything at the moment." Gareth said: "I am still getting my head around it. She has got a couple of big operations still to go. It was my family dog and I can't really talk about it." Cops interviewed him and seized their other dog, an alsatian. Another mastiff belonging to a relative had been in the house at the time of the attack. Advertisement Taylor's gran Alison Leadbeater, 40, revealed Trigger had bitten the tot's uncle Gary three weeks ago. She said the dog was muzzled, apart from when it fed and drank. Alison said the family had tried to find a new owner for Trigger after a vet said he could not put him down. She said: "We begged the authorities, pleaded with them. We wanted the dog put down. But that would cost us £180 which we didn't have. "The vets said he wasn't dangerous and could not be put down because he wasn't classified as dangerous. We couldn't just dump him." Neapolitan mastiffs, which are not banned, can weigh up to 13 stone. Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/...l#ixzz0j50ukTZQ
  10. We got warned about kong toys many years ago. I refuse to give my dogs kongs. Glad all was ok in the end.
  11. My dogs are part of my family. always have been, always will be. I love my dogs, with a passion that I can not describe. I have a running tab with my vet but if at any stage I can not afford vet fees with my babies, even though they have a limited insurance then I will make my decision. My decision alone. Do not condemn a person because they can not afford the vet fees. I have spent more money on my dogs in the last 10 years than I would have spent on myself But there comes a time in everyones budget that we must make a decision. I am not heartless, dont get me wrong. I have seen more animals over the rainbow bridge than the average person.
  12. Yes I have heard about it Yes I keep Vit C in my fridge for emergency situations if need be before i can get my dogs to the vet No I have never had a dog bitten by a snake but it is there if I need it.
  13. everything which resembles food, maybe food or is food oh except of course...... lettuce watching a Bullmastiff spit out lettuce is so funny
  14. Thanks Puggy I'll have a closer look as soon as I get outa here. Bulldogs and Bullmastiffs can also suffer from crusty noses. I use paw paw cream and remove the dead skin and dirt from my boys nose.
  15. If the dogs are coming from Aus to NZ there is no quarantine. They will need a babseia(sp)blood test done within a certain time before they depart. An AQIS vet will be able to give you all the details. Dogs fly back and forth between the two countries all the time
  16. This was judges training back in NZ. It was mentioned only to save wear and tear on my back. My back is not good anyway but it is something I have to live with. I prefer to crouch slightly or bend down. Approaching a dog on the table or the ground should always be done with concideration to the smaller breeds. Sometimes I wear glasses because of the glare(and because I have an eye problem but always take them off to check colour of dogs eyes and coat colour.
  17. I am a tall person(just under 6 foot tall) and even though during judges training it was mentioned to me that I shouldnt bend over as such to see the dogs for or aft movement, I find it is better for me if I do. Especially with the smaller dogs. I dont have a problem with it. I would rather have a judge interested in movement than one who wasnt it.
  18. BREED STANDARD OF AN EXHIBITOR CHARACTERISTICS A pleasant intelligent person, helpful, considerate, attentive and of a sporting demeanour. Always willing to give advice and assistance to newcomers, or to others needing it. Attentive to the needs of the dogs being handled, and present each dog to its best advantage. GENERAL APPEARANCE A neat, smart, fit looking individual, well-groomed, well shod and well-equipped, who moves freely both in and out of the ring. TEMPERAMENT Calm, confident, unhurried and friendly. HEAD Neither big nor pin headed. Skull broad to allow for plenty of brain power. Expression pleasant and smiling, regardless of judges' decisions, other exhibitors' actions and the dog's behaviour. Nose small so as to not be stuck into where it is not wanted. EYES Sharp and bright Observant of other exhibitors location, judge's hand signals and the movement and position of all dogs in the ring. MOUTH Usually best kept closed except to briefly answer judge's questions or to congratulate successful exhibitors. Teeth clean, white and presented in a smiling fashion at all times. NECK Long enough to hold the head up proudly and flexible enough to turn the head as to observe everything that is happening in the ring. Should never be stuck out. FOREQUARTERS Shoulders broad and able to shrug off unsporting comments from other exhibitors. Arms of sufficient length and strength to extend a handshake to the winners, keep a firm hold on the dog, collect any prize cards, and give a friendly pat to the dog all at the same time. BODY Sufficiently slim as to not impede other exhibitors leaving the ring and to not completely block the judge's view of all the dogs behind. HINDQUARTERS Well developed and strong so as to be able to move the dog in the ring at its optimum speed. FEET Firmly on the ground as this is only a sport after all. To be kept out of the mouth at all times. GAIT Free moving and graceful, moving in harmony with the dog's speed. COAT Dress should be neat, clean and tidy, neither flamboyant nor immodest, but designed to allow free movement without distraction to any dog in the ring. Feet should be well shod in practical shoes to allow for easy movement. COLOUR Should be chosen to complement the colour of the dog, or if several different coloured dogs are being handled, to at least not completely hide the outline of any dog, e.g. Wearing a long black skirt when showing a black dog. SIZE Exhibitors may come in all sizes and shapes, the only limitation being ability to do justice to the dog when in the ring. MAJOR FAULTS Dirty or scruffy appearance, grumpy, vicious or flustered temperament; swollen head; loud mouth, especially when used for insulting comments or bad language; unsporting behaviour; unkempt dress. NOTE: The usual Kennel Club requirement that all males have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum has been dispensed with, in the interests of decorum and to avoid any sudden inspections with attendant violent reactions, while male exhibitors are attending dog shows.
  19. Just a thought What food is he getting and what is the consistency. Will it help any if his food i mashed up and not in chunks. So he also has excessive froth as well? So does he have an issue with over active saliva glands???
  20. ok the wound site is shaved. do you think some butterflys will hold the skin in place and then banadged as well
  21. Gosh I dread that happening SBT Especially with my big fella. The girls are all pretty cruisy but he is not. That and the roads around as well.
  22. Ears come in many shapes, forms, sizes, different ear sets...high set, low set. With teething ears can be all over the place and actually , just because....... they may not settle down into the correct placement. All you are dong with glueing or taping is to make sure that a good placement is set with the cartiledge. You are in a gentle way setting it. Its not forced that way, The cartiledge in the ear is not being surgically altered in any way. As I said before I advocate helping out around 7 weeks old and while teething. No earlier. Of course the thing which can work against you in nature is that you may have a dog(lets say a Bulldog and a Bullmastiff) which both should have high set ears. But you can have the ear set which is TOO high, and no matter what, you can not alter that. Genetically they were born with a very high ear set. Thats where you can get your fly away ears. Tulip ears in a Bulldog, You can also get a Bulldog ear set in a Bullmastiff, (which is the rose ear.)highly undesirable. Sometimes, no matter how much you glue or tape, the ears will not form in the correct crease. It is just something you have to live with, but it is alot easier to give the ears a helping hand. Some dont bother and a very good specimen can be ruined. You can also especially with the Bulldogs, end up with dogs with inner ear problems because they have not got the correct ear set, thus preventing air circulation. I have seen this When selecting dogs to use over bitches ear set should be important. Just as important as many other virtues. It all comes down to selecting the right dogs, or trying to. I have found over many years now, the Bulldogs and Bullmastiffs in America and alot on the continents have huge thick ears which are not correct. Bulldogs especially with heavy thick ears. Alot of the time dogs ears can be massaged into the correct creases. I also recommend this. A Bulldogs ear is rose for a specific reason. They were bred this way hundreds of years ago. I have a brilliant Bulldog article on ears which I may post later. Each person will have to either agree or disagree. Its because we can. There are many things that many people do to enhance their dogs appearance. Gosh they used to use chest spreaders, many many years ago. Personally glueing or taping ears is way down on the list of do nots.
  23. The only damage as such that you can do to the ears is that the hair can come off. Perservere. The cartiledge can take awhile to set. Just make sure you are setting the ear correctly
