  1. I buy Ziwpeak in the 1kg bags and use it for treats for my three border terriers...they love it. It smells delicious, too  But i couldn't afford to feed it all the time, sadly It always looks and feels good and i'm sure the dogs would do very well on it...shame about the price...
  2. Seconded...my Border Terrier puppy died at 10 weeks old from choking on a chicken neck - not a happy experience
  3. Oh no...tears in my eyes here, LM, she was a gorgeous soul. Her last few months would have been very peaceful - she was so lucky to have found you.
  4. So Your Dog needs to lose weight. Spent the evening yesterday with a lovely Staffordshire BT, adored by his owner (and most other people) who could lose at least 5kg and possibly a bit more - owner can't see it though...."but he already eats less than it says on the bag", "he hasn't been for a walk for a while", "but he's always asking for food", "he steals the cat's food all the time". :banghead:
  5. Lovely, persephone! Amazing what can be done with those i-devices...
  6. I am using about 1/4 more than the Plaque Off per-kilo dosage as it is a powder and the plaque Off was sort-of concentrated in hard tiny lumps. I looked at the bag it came in and there are no dosage recommendations, I think I will write have just written to them to find out. Thanks Boronia, that's what made me wonder about dosage with it being a powder. i try to use the same amount [but with it being a powder much like talc, it lacks density and therefore weight]! in my view the powdered product is exactly the same; with the branded product however, they've used a binding agent to form granules, and if in one scoop of that you account for the air surrounding each granule, one scoop of the powder [if compacted] would likely equate to the same or perhaps a little more. just my take on it :) thanks for the link and WOAH, what's with that disclaimer! Very verbose! They seem to have it below just about every product, too :)
  7. I use slightly more than with the original Plaque Off - a rounded measure instead of flat. I found a place in Sydney that sells it! New Directions
  8. I have started to use the ball as a reward, if he sits outside and lets me brush him we play fetch, but it doesn't last long. I have tried the 'finished' technique, ill say "no more" put the ball/stick away..... then he goes to get something else..... another ball, stick, peg, rock, blade of grass... He truly is obsessed, and its not good when we have other people come over, or go to the park or some one else's house I know this is not a how to fix the problem answer, but could you at least manage it so it's not unpleasant to have guests around by putting him in a pen or crate at those times when he really is being a nuisance?
  9. Greyhound Boar Bristle brushes, for the terriers - lovely!
  10. Very sorry to here about Grumpy, Sheridan The Clancy Brothers! Lovely to hear them again...I used to have several of their records...
  11. Stan ate every cherry tomato in my vegie patch the first year I got him and he was fine. There were random tomato plants popping up all over the back yard, just mowed over them though...I know where they'd been. My three ADORE tomatoes, and cue up for theirs when I tend to the tomato pots and pick the ripe ones - never had a problem...read somewhere that tomatoes are fantastic brain food for both humans and dogs :)
  12. Just a couple of goals this year for the Border Terrier earthdog brigade here in the Southern Highlands..... Tosh - keep going with just four more passes needed at Senior level for his MEX (Master Earthdog Excellent), which is sort of equivalent to a Ch. title in earthdog. He's got 8 chances during the season (only a winter sport) so a 50% pass rate should be achievable. He has slowed down a bit at 10, but still has the drive and always comes up smiling from the dens :) Monkey - new kid on the block, will be 14 months old at her first try for the season at the Earthdog Instinct Certificate test. Very much at the "off comes the head and on goes the pumpkin" stage ATM, lacking focus, but can guarantee she will have heaps of fun and with a bit of work should get her EIC title and be on her way to her Novice Earthdog title by the end of winter. She might even get her conformation Ch title too.....
  13. In my breed (Border Terriers), here in NSW, neuters are allowed to enter the property classes at our speciality show annually - have done for years. I presume that it would be the same for all breeds in NSW if they have speciality breed shows with property classes - or maybe the clubs are allowed to just say no? We have gait, pelt, head and foot classes.....
  14. Talking about made-up breed names, my local pet shop has Tibetan Speagles for sale for Christmas
  15. Wow-weeeee...those are beautiful photos, congratulations
  16. I was just thinking this too, yesterday! Finished my first little jar of PlaqueOff...the dog with the bad teeth has noticeably better teeth and breath having been on it for 6-7 weeks...but it's soooo expensive! Would love to know if the generic import actually got into the country and is working..... PS: I paid $40 for my first jar online - but if anyone lives near Picton, NSW, Derks Produce has it on special from tomorrow at $29.95 - off to get one in the morning.....
  17. HEY NO running in the hallways! Guess you can do that when you're the Pres....and the Pres's dog! I just love that photo
  18. The breeder did a good job selecting breeding pairs with sound nerve. Storm phobias and fearful behaviour like this is genetic........such a shame to see so many dogs suffer at the hands of breeders who dismiss phobia as a genetic flaw. But is that always the case? My girl has not been phobic all her life - early on she was pretty laid back about them and didn't seem to worry at all, but now she's hopeless. And my daughter's Staffie grew up absolutely bomb-proof and actually loving loud noises (he was the party pooper who always tried to pop every balloon at a party  ) and not being phased at all by storms, but in later life he became absolutely hysterical over storms and fireworks etc. - to the point where he once smashed a reinforced glass shower screen in the laundry in his hysteria.
  19. One of my Border Terriers is very storm phobic - we had a big storm just before midnight last night, it was horrible I give her rescue remedy which seems to help as long as I start it early enough and keep it up every 5 minutes or so - she seems to recognise that it helps her and is quite happy to take it. I don't have a thunder shirt, but I wrap her in anything to hand - sheet, towel, clothes - and that helps too (she looks very funny sometimes, like a little mummy :D ) One of the benefits of her age now (she's 12 1/2) is that she's quite deaf, so if it's a "quiet" storm and during the day she doesn't always pick up the vibes, but if it's at night she sees the lightning, which starts the whole process off...a couple of times I've slept with the lights on so she doesn't see the flashes...
  20. Good idea. I will try tomorrow to lure her outdoors with a toy she isn't sleeping with. She responds well to toys. Ta. You should try just standing still like a rock when she does it...my Border Terrier pup did this as a baby, I know how much it hurts! But once I stood still as soon as she tackled me, she pretty much shrugged her shoulders and walked away :D Though she still loves to grab at anything dangly that I'm holding in my hands...we're working hard on "Leave it - Get it" at the moment  Gotta love those terriers.....
  21. Don't all breed standards say male dogs "should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum." ?
  22. And you'll need blankets for snuggling! And for putting in crates and pens and on seats...see Andisa here on DOL, she makes lovely ones! And I scour Vinnies etc. for fleecy baby ones - just make sure they're well washed and aired... And you'll find I'm sure that the most popular toys are always the cheapest and most loved...empty soft drink bottles make a very satisfactory crunchy noise, empty toilet roll cardboard middles can be tossed around and shredded, and just make sure all your shoes are out of sight!! Have fun, and remember they're only 8 weeks old for a week!
  23. Many years ago I rescued a pigeon from the side I'd the road - I became the hero! When I had a bath it insisted on flying on to my knees poking out of the water, then flapping about in the water having a lovely time...he had a ton of character, that little bird!
  24. Monica Percival, the nice Clean Run front person, just said on the Clean Run Yahoo group that they won't be doing free shipping storewide this year... "Last year we lost a lot of money because the store doesn't have the ability to exclude particular items (the heavy ones) from a free shipping offer. The programmer was supposed to finish the code to support that feature this year, but he has not." Naughty programmer
  25. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2229642/Third-dog-owners-bitten-attacked-pet.html Interesting reading about the state of play in the UK with under-socialised, under-trained dogs.
