  1. What part of the EP doesn't agree with him? Just curious as I feed it to my girl
  2. Shylas "Spin Left" and "Spin Right" amuse people!
  3. Oh Im so happy for you!! What a doting, loving and loyal dog owner you are, Diesel is very lucky I am SO glad your research paid off and there was success!!! What a nice story to go to bed thinking about
  4. It will get better, I know at this point you probably feel horrible and the crying pulls at your heartstrings. I made the mistake of staying home and 'testing out' whether my pup cried initially.. of course she did! I lay in bed listening and ended up crying cos it was so stressful on me. Try to remember to stay calm and be confident as you walk out of the room, give her the kong, and walk out. I was sure my pup would NEVER stop crying, she cried so bad in the first 7-10 days. But amazingly enough it did get better, to be honest I don't know if she cries when we are at work but I assume not, as she awaits her morning kong with excitement, and sees us closing and locking the door and saying bye, and she couldnt care LESS cos she has her kong with peanut butter I had my mum come feed/check on her @ lunchtimes every day for the first 5 weeks, she said in the first week she would park the car and hear her crying, but from then on she never ever heard crying, she said she was always quiet, and would only start whining/jumping on the door when she would hear mum come inside (which is normal). So yes it will improve Although I remember at the time, thinking, there is NO WAY this is going to get better!! What am I going to do!! I thought I had made the wrong decision getting a pup while working fulltime, but stay strong, it can be done
  5. Yes, you would definately benefit from contacting a trainer to help you guys out!
  6. My puppy has a dog door also, but she caught on very fast as the flap is clear and she is very food motivated - so all I had to do was stand and call her on the other side with food, and she would come bolting through! It may take a while though depending on the dog. It will also take a while before your pup takes himself out to go to the toilet, I think moreso because at 8wks they can't hold that well, and if he wakes up after a long nap he will be BUSTING, and will just go on the floor if he's busting that bad, instead of seeing the dog door, thinking "oh I should go out there" and taking himself out there. This improves heaps with ages though, my girl is 3.5months now and definately holds for longer now
  7. Where is the crate at night? Not next to your bed?
  8. Well last Saturday Shyla started having soft pudding poo, which was unusual as the 4 weeks I have had her prior she had 100% perfect solid poo. I got her onto boiled rice and chicken, and they seemed to firm up by Monday, but then at 1am Monday night she wanted to go out and had the squirts Over the next day they got a bit better, so I got excited when she did some firm ones again, thinking YAY they are gone, but we had more pudding later in the week Its so annoying!! Today she just built up to another proper firm one this arvo, yay, but I don't want to get my hopes up. I sprinkle her Eagle Pack bikkies through the chicken and rice, and I am wondering when I should increase the amount of bikkies/decrease the chicken and rice?? Should I leave it 3 or 4 days and then try? Im worried I'll flare it up again if I add too much bikkies in too soon. I'm over boiling chicken and rice
  9. Same here!! I have 2 duck toys from the reject shop, ALL my pets love this particular duck squeaking toy (even the ferrets). This duck also happens to be Shylas humping buddy.. she started @ 9wks old
  10. Hm it seems no one does know! Does Google results present you with any answers?
  11. Some puppies who see the owner get 'upset' over an accident inside, will associate going to the toilet not as wrong, but as a deed to be hidden, and will sneak off and do it when you aren't watching. They may also develop a fear of going to the toilet with you around at all - whether it be inside or out, which can be a problem. The point is to get them to understand that outside is toilet area, by just constant repetitive opportunities for them to go out there.. they catch on pretty quick if you get them out there whenever they have to go. When they go outside, you PRAISE PRAISE and get really excited, and they realize hang on a minute..if I relieve myself out here, mum/dad get really happy! (pups love to please you) and they will want to repeat the scenario for the same response from you.
  12. I feel your pain! Shyla had awful 'squirts' on Saturday night, on Sunday her poos started to firm up, and on Monday she did 2 perfect firm items. Then 1am Tuesday morning she whined to go toilet and did more squirts So just when I thought it was over, it is not! Sounds similar to your situation! I'm just going to keep boiled chicken+ricing for now, if she was pooing more frequently than she is (which is her normal poo times, every 5-7hrs or so) I'd be worried about dehydration She's totally hyper otherwise, and the only pain is that she is still indoors when we are at work, so we have sloppy mess to clean Oh well!
  13. Oh I see loungeroom zoomies every night!! It's crazy lol
  14. He will get better at associating your clear hand signals over time, try to have a clear signal for each command. Being a pup = low attention span & still learning. He'll get beter in time - I've noticed an immense improvement in my pups attention span and performing without treats.. 2 weeks ago she wouldn't!
  15. I'd say it could be! If the peanuts are an allergen for them
  16. I wouldn't put it down to a 'pecking order' issue at his age, some puppies are just mouthier than others and to him it's a great game. Some of the things you are doing sound like they are unintentionally reinforcing the behaviour, making it more fun - like the growly noises - and if you are switching between different methods you'll not be giving any of them time to really work. I think you need some help from a trainer, but for what it's worth the reaction that has always worked best for me is to stop interacting and walk away when he bites. Return to play after a few minutes, if he bites again you get up and walk away again, immediately. It's the same as the time out except you are leaving, it's instantaneous because you don't need to go through the process of putting him in the pen/outside, and it doesn't raise his excitement level as some of the other responses can. Mark the undesired behaviour with an ouch if you want, but nothing else, all attention ceases. You can expect the biting to get worse before it gets better - it's called an extinction burst - it's a behaviour that's worked for him before so he's just going to try harder for a while before giving up on it. Consistency and timing in your response is the key, and not accidently rewarding the behaviour you don't want. Play calmly with him, don't rev him up until you train an 'off' switch. Re your feeding regime, some dry foods have been alleged to make hyper dogs much more so, never had it happen myself but have heard it asserted. If you've noticed it, avoid those foods. What is walking away is impossible because pup starts attacking your pant legs/slippers :p Thats what happens to me!
  17. Very normal! I've noticed this noise goes away as they get older, Shyla is over 12 wks old now and doesn't do it anymore :p
  18. Well we took her for a walk around the block, but carried her for half of it, so she could still see the sights and sounds, but could rest. She loved it! She got excited at the sight of another dog on the other side of the road being walked, and wanted to say hello to people walking down their driveway. Got a bit freaked at the 2 loud dogs that were bashing and making a hella noise through their fence, but she ended up walking past so I was proud
  19. My pup ignores the "NO!" and being walked off on, as well! If I ignore or walk away, she just bites my ankles which hurts. I've found that a very high pitch crying sound, coupled with a sad upset face (yes it tends to work more often than not!) works better than the "NO" etc. Otherwise I leave the room, or make her "sit" which snaps her out of it a bit
  20. My GSD pup has had the runs the past day as well! I found cooking plain rice for her and mixing it with a little of her usual bikkies (or boiled chicken) has helped heaps, the last few poos have started to slowly form up again. She had a major runs episode last night when we went out for a few hours, 3 huge splatter scenarios  Which was obviously her dinner coming out. I skipped giving her supper, and she was hungry through the night and spewed up a few times (spewed up nothing other than foam) cos she was so hungry. So I have now been giving her small amounts of the rice mix and definately on the mend now
  21. Hmm it looks like the smoked bones I bought. I found Shyla ate through them far too fast, and they were coarse, dry, and 'splintery'. So I threw the other ones out, and I'm sticking with fresh, raw bones -- much better and tastier!
  22. The one i brought is raw but dried out. Is that ok? is it a smoked bone?
