Pup is talking and playing... some dogs bark, some dogs squeaks and whinge and some dogs growl. Emmy is a growler too. Emmy growls at everything... before she sleeps, before she eats, when she is playing, before she plays, when she walks around the house with a treat in her mouth trying to find the best place to hide it.

From what i've been told.. her right knee cap won't stay in the middle at all. They said that she's Grade 3. I don't know what's with my dogs but apparently she is suppose to be in pain, but she doesn't seem like she is in pain. Got pain med to give her if needed, but Emmy doesn't know the concept of pain.

Came back from the vets/specialist saying that Emmy has this. Both her hind legs kneecaps but her right one is the one that's going to get operated first Hopefully because she is still very young, she will make a full recovery. I only notice her limping on Saturday morning and took her straight to the vets. The new vet there said she might have this, so we made an appointment with a specialist there who knows a lot more about it. He confirmed it. Both her knees need to be done. But the right is worst then the left. He says that they rarely get Jap Spitz in the clinic but in the past month, Emmy is the 4th JS that has came in having the same problem.

Where To Draw The Line With Vet Bills?

I love my dogs but my bank balance doesn't I just got my credit card bill :D

Sometimes together and sometimes separately. I will have one in a sit/stay position while working a short session (trick training usually) with the other and then vice versa. If I'm doing OB with Charlie, then Emmy gets crated. And, if I'm training Emmy in drive then Charlie is crated too.
-
Depends. I only bring the treats out when I'm doing training with them, and when I train with my dogs, I don't let other people bring their dogs near and if they do, I ask the owners to take their dogs away. Usuaully people are good about it. But, if just at the dog park and there are other dogs there and they are playing, then no. There is no need for it. My dogs has to work for their treats... NILIF My 2 will work for cuddles with recalls or game of tug.

At least that's consistent & after all he is a cocker :D They love their food. Pep will literally turn herself inside out for a toy. She will flip through the air, grabbing at it with no regard for her body. She will fly over a jump for a toy & almost trot over for food. So what is she more driven by? Given that she will hardly look at the toy if food is out. Some dogs are just toy driven. Bring out a tug toy and she won't even notice the food either.
-
Emmy is not very food driven either. She is has prey drive, so she prefers toys and anything you can play tug with! Maybe Pep is the same?

Some of you have made me really think... Right now, I'm not going to do anything till i feel comfortable with the situation. Charlie has came across dogs like that before, and because he doesn't react, other dogs calms down when they realise he isn't a threat. But, it's not often when dogs bark at him... he is too calm and neutral for a normal dog to react to him like that. And, the fact that this dog lunge towards him the second time makes me hesitate. Also, on the walk when Charlie (who loves his walks) didn't want to go with them makes me rethink too. There is no chance that I will let Emmy near this dog. I don't like the vibe between the 2. The Shih Tzu will be around for a few months... it all depends how long the dog's owner personal situation gets sorted.

I let my 2 decide what they want to do... if it's really hot outside though and they want to stay outside, I do spray water on them. They love it. They are smart enough to know if things get to hot, they come inside. We have the fan on. Charlie is known to go into the shower stalls for naps when it's hot. I did have a husky who loved very hot weather... the hotter it is, the more she will lay outside in the sun.

If they have the brains to stop trying to force him into "making friends" I'd not feel sorry for him at all. Some dogs don't give a damn about other dogs. I might mention that to my neighbours!
-
Those poor dogs. So sad to see dogs that aren't stable... for me, it is anyway. Yep. I worked really hard to get Emmy to be good around other people and dogs, and I don't want anything to damage the work!! Should be interesting to see how Erik and Emmy would be like together.. now that she is older.

Charlie is a calm naturally and pretty much bomb proof. He is a Canine Good Citizen dog too That's why we tried to go for a walk together. But, he seriously didn't want anything to do with this dog. I listened to him and cut the walk short and we went home. I don't think I will force the issue. You guys are right, no one can help this dog but the owner.

I guess this is a situation where no one can really do anything. Kind of sucks though... I really feel bad for the Shih Tzu
-
I haven't let my dogs near the Shih Tzu since the walk till i figure out what to do. I want to help but I need to keep my 2 safe first.

Next door neighbour is looking after their friend's 4 years old, not socialise, Shih Tzu. From what I can see, the dog has DA and if not, if something is not done with his behaviour soon, it will lead to that. Barks, snarls and snaps very aggressively towards other dogs (how my neighbour can say that he is a very placid, gentle and sweet dog... I don't know!) Charlie, Emmy and I were in the front yard hanging out and neighbour comes with the dog. the dog see Charlie and starts going absolutely insane with barking and lunging towards Charlie. Charlie sits down and ignore the Shih Tzu but turning his head away from the dog but he doesn't move away. Then comes Miss Emmy from the other side of the yard (she did not notice the Shih Tzu at first), stops and watches to see what's going on (I was actually proud of her that she didn't come running barking). Charlie gets up and Shih Tzu again lunges towards Charlie and Emmy (who is a pocket rocket) launches towards the Shih Tzu growling but I managed to grab her leash before she got to the dog. I told her no and took her away from that situation. (Not sure if she was looking after Charlie or she was reacting to that dog's energy.. what do you guys think?) Now my neighbours wants the dogs to play together and that the Shih Tzu makes friends. I'm not quite sure how to go about it. We tried to go for a walk together (just Charlie, Emmy stayed at home). Charlie wants nothing to do with the Shih Tzu. At all. He didn't even want to go for a walk at all. Shih Tzu is too much for Charlie. But, the Shih Tzu is warming up to Charlie. I'm keeping Emmy away from this dog. I don't want her to socialise with this dog. The Shih Tzu always looks like he wants to tear her apart every time he sees her and I know my little girl won't back down. What will you guys do?
