Best Breed For Your Average First Time Dog Owner
W Sibs replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
My cousin as Tibbie and I'll be training him over Christmas (for my NDTF course!). They will make perfect 1 time dog owners. Also I think Cavaliers and Poodles too. As for bigger breed, I will suggest they go to a rescue place and adopt an older dog that will fit in their lifestyle and home life. -

How Fussy Is Your Oh Pertaining To Dogs Inside The House
W Sibs replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
The Sibs' (Charlie and Emmy) HuDaddy grew up with no pets either. He wasn't sure about dogs. Total Neat freak. Charlie and Emmy are allow to do anything with him, if he is working and Emmy wants a cuddle.. he will stop working to give Emmy a cuddle or continue working with Emmy on his lap. He will sit on the couch with Charlie and share a bowl of ice cream together while watching tv. When his parents last year said that Charlie wasn't allowed inside the house... he packed his tent to set it out in the backyard. But, his parents, loves Charlie at sight and within 2 minutes, Charlie had free rein of their house too -

Do You Use Jealousy To Your Advantage?
W Sibs replied to raineth's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Emmy doesn't like to be left out of things either so she is always going to copy Charlie on what he is doing if he gets attention (the good and bad). I wouldn't say it's a jealously thing though. But, I do take advantage of it if I want her to try new things... like kayaking, I put Charlie in the kayak and paddled away with him and Emmy didn't know what was going on.. when I came back, she jumped straight into the kayak and wants a go. Bad is.. Emmy usually likes having her nail clipped, but if I cut Charlie's nails first and he throws a tantrum, she will throw one too. So, I have to cut hers before cutting his. -
I do the same.

Dog Cries During Training Sessions
W Sibs replied to Rileys mum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You guys got whingers... I get a squeaker Charlie will squeak in training if he gets frustrated... he moves and breaks to quickly, that when I put him in position again, he gets frustrated and lets me know by squeaking. Doesn't happen as much now, but happened a fair bit when he was a pup. -
Just let your neighbours know that their dogs is making noise. They, maybe, don't know that their dog is loud and unsettled. When I moved to my new place... I went to my closest neighbours to introduce myself and Charlie, and explain to them that Charlie maybe bark while settling in and let me know if he gets annoying. They were wonderful and told me that Charlie was really quiet, and didn't know he was home... it's only noisy when I'm at home with the dogs ;) They love the lovely conversation I have with Charlie

omg that was hard.. but i've voted.

that's a weird reaction to a normal vaccination... i wonder what the vacs was for? Charlie sleeps for hours and wakes up really really hungry after vacs. Emmy has no reactions... nothing effects her happy mood.

Base The Cost Of A Dog On Colour, Why?
W Sibs replied to Kristin Dwyer's topic in General Dog Discussion
I prefer certain colours in dogs, but it just comes down to the dogs temperament, health and if that pup will fit in with my little family. I will not pay more for a dog with unique colouring. -
Yep no worries. I'll measure him and send you the results later today
-
Do you want me to measures Charlie's? Or his nose isn't broad enough?

I ran out of freezer bags to put their necks and wings in... I started to use the poo bag (clean one of course) oh, i make my friend put her babies dirty nappies in the poo bag before throwing it into my bin too.

Have A Photo That I Can Use Of Big Happy Dog In Crate?
W Sibs replied to Kitt's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry OT, but s/he's gorgeous!! I have a few snaps on my home computer with my 2 in their crate looking very content too. -
Barking as a greeting isn't allowed at my house.. I will tolerate whinging and squeaking but no barking, snapping or growling. For a puppy... I will take a few steps back in a situation where he is scared or unsure about an object. I keep calm and assertive. I like the pup settle down and build up the courage to go to the object the pup is unsure about. If the pup is still unsure, I will take the pup away and maybe try again in a few days. If the pup is curious and takes a step forward, I will encourage that behaviour. I will not flood the pup (who is still learning about the world) with the object the pup is scared of straight away. Dogs do 2 things when they are scared. The run or they fight. If you force him a position where he can't get away, then he is going to fight. Letting him run is not a good idea either, because they can run onto traffic or can really injure themselves. You don't want the pup to run and you definitely don't want the pup to fight. You need professional help that will help you in person. Great you ask people on the forum to help and people are giving you awesome advice, but sometimes you need that person to come out to help you with your pup. We don't know your dog personally to see his body language and how he reacts to things, only how you describe his behaviour(and no offence, but sometimes I don't know if your over dramatising the situation or not). It's very confusing.

Puppy needs to go outside frequently to go to the toilet. They have tiny bladders and have no control of them till they are about 6 months old. I think if he keeps going to the rug/blanket... that's a sign he might need to go. Just have to keep an hawk eye watch out of him when he is near that area. BTW.. Charlie is an awesome name (I have a Charlie myself )

Emmy will be Baby Spice... -
I have 2 small dogs. They eat raw and surprisingly it doesn't cost much to feed them. Vet bills... it's managable. Pet insurance if you want some peace of mind. Walks... they can be walked together and separately. I try to have one on one with them with everyday, sometime the only time I can do that is by walks. I have been known to walk around the block 4 times a day... Sleep... Emmy sleeps on the bed with me. Charlie only sleeps on the bed if he isn't feeling well but most of the time he sleep on his bed in the bedroom or his crate. They have their own day bed each in the living room, and share a huge dog bed in the study. It's all about finding a routine and system that works for your household
