  1. I just found this smilebox of my best pics of 2009.......... http://smilebox.com/playBlog/4d6a55344f546b344e44553d0d0a&blogview=true I must carry my camera more with me again
  2. I walk my low drive newfies twice a day.........I have owned GSD's in the past and we used to do a lot of swimming and walking with them. Why can't she have large bones.....It sounds like she need to chew and bones are great for that. We also feed almost daily bones to keep our dogs entertained. Maybe all her food should be given in toys that will take some work for her to get to her food, be it food dispensing toys/balls or kongs. Or even some dry (if that is what you feed) in those plastic bottles. We also have soft ropes and bottles hanging in some of our trees in the garden. my dogs love bouncing them and chew as you go. A sandpit might be a lot of fun for your dog...bury "treasures" for her to look for. to me it sounds a lot like boredom. Teething is often the reason pups start chewing, but it also become self satisfying and they continue on. Just try to find lots of things for her to do. Obedience is still the best, I do it on some of my walks and sometimes just a couple of minutes here and there.
  3. Newfies .......all newfoundland dog owners call their dogs newfies
  4. Black or brown as the landseers would always look dirty.....My dogs swim daily and in Summer the dam water can be muddy. the only reason for my choice
  5. Thinking of you , it is very hard to loose our dearest loved ones.......

  7. So sorry- I am so sorry for both of you. Two precious Angels for Rainbow bridge
  8. It looks and sounds like this dog needs some help and attention.....Is there no-one who can help/advise. Have you been to visit your vet? Are there any Rescue people who might be able to help you in finding a better feeding regime? I feed four large dogs for less then $50.00/per week. It takes some effort and not by just opening a can/dry food. but it is possible. If you cannot afford to feed or look after your dog you may have to have help and re-home him. As I said previously, I take on newfie rescues and many have been in shocking condition. I use the "satin Ball" recipe (google) to get them back in health, which is not cheap. We also feed lots of meaty bones, which adds both calories and is good for their teeth. Have you thought of visiting some of the local Butchers and asking for off-cuts and bone. I personally do not use dry food, but there are many good quality cheaper dry foods, as has been suggested to you here. I have been involved with helping someone train a balance control dog......The ratio of owner dog was almost equal. the dog weighed 60 kg and the young lady was almost the same. Please consider this work might be too much for your dog and may lead to injury to either or both of you. Please ask and get some help local to you.......For your dogs sake, before it is too late for him
  9. Well I am not from the UK....But I feel the same and I enjoyed all your doggy friendly pics
  10. When I got one of my Rescue newfies she was also very thin and would not put on any weight at all. We did a lot of Allergy testing at the vets and she has a wheat allergy. She has loose stools and does not absorb it at all. Change of diet, helped her immensely. She is also preservative intolerant ( not all but quite a few). We went to Werribee for all the tests. She is now fed a wheat free/Preservative free diet.....In our case RAW. But we started with blood tests and such at the vets. Thyroid problems can also cause weight loss. I would suggest to see what your vet says.......Good luck, hope you find a solution
  11. I like Kobe and Loki.....Good call names and just sound nice
  12. Last year we got a nine year old Newfy Rescue with the name Balcon.....I hated it and he took no notice of it. because he was not a well cared for dog in his past. We changed it to Tobias/Toby. It took all of one day with call/ click when he looked and treat for him to come running to his name. It was a name we gave with love and the loving is more important than anything to a Rescue. You name your new dog the name you like and it will not take long for him to get the association...Congratulations on you new dog

  16. Mine all live in and are in the house when we are out.......And yes we have big dog, but we also used to live in the USA and Europe and it was normal. It just means the vacuum comes out once a day I take my dogs as many places as we are allowed. We are lucky, because we are Rural. And my dogs seem to attract people in a friendly manner, so are well tolerated everywhere. It is sad we cannot take ours as many places as we could in Europe and the USA. We have taken ours in to all the Plant Nurseries, Bunnings and other such stores and walks the Main streets of all the small towns nearby and have Coffee with the dogs beside us. In quite a few places, the dogs have been offered bowls of water. I think it is important to be seen around with friendly well mannered dogs.
