Metal Or Soft Crate? I Can't Decide
Bundyburger replied to Bundyburger's topic in General Dog Discussion
Bundy lets himself out of his metal one very occasionally.. I don't think he's smart enough to be able to unzip it though My Vizslas aren't! Well, if yours aren't I think I'm safe. NZViz calls him "Simple Sam" cos he's a bit speshul.. -

that bit that I bolded: that's good! and gradually get it to the point where Seth is getting the sit, eye contact and saying "eat". its hard with a pup and a little one isn't it! I'm sure you'll get there I believe the child is only 2? I wouldn't be letting a 2yo put down my dogs food bowl!! That is asking for trouble, no matter the reasoning behind it IMHO...

Metal Or Soft Crate? I Can't Decide
Bundyburger replied to Bundyburger's topic in General Dog Discussion

Good point FHRP - Securapens are great! Nope.. he climbs out We don't know how but he learnt to climb out of pens when he was confined after his desexing. We'd get home to find an e-collared head greeting us at the window.. I was very grateful for the fact he loooves his crate after he started doing that I think I will definitely look into soft crates, thanks -
Metal Or Soft Crate? I Can't Decide

Destinations only.. and always inside and in the bedroom or laundry with a cover on top. As well as being used at home. He travels on the back seat of the car in a harness I am reasonably confident that if he was in a soft crate he wouldn't destroy anything, as he only destroys things when he is particularly anxious, and that's when he's outside for extended periouds or in the back room not when he's crated as he sees the crate as his 'safe' zone and will take himself off there. -
His royal highness has just about outgrown his current crate. It's lasted him ages as he's now 13 months and still growing like a weed. He's not really liking the fact he has to duck to get in there Width is ok, he's just too tall!!We're also going to be doing lots of traveling over the next 12 months with our dogs, so I'm not sure if I'm best to go with a metal one again, or get a soft crate. Our metal crate is really heavy and cumbersome to take down and put up again, so I was wondering if the soft crates are any easier? Do they take up as much space? How sturdy are they? Bundy will get halfway through the night and then decide to turn around... I don't want something that's going to collapse on him. Cost isn't an issue as I want to buy something that will last, but I'm just not sure of the best way to go. Buying a 'travel' crate and a 'home' crate isn't an option unfortunately as OH would kill me! I dread having to pack up the metal crate whenever we want to go away, I always end up with a jammed finger.... How does the size differ between the two? He currently has an "intermediate" crate from Petstock.. yet when I saw a link to a softcrate on COTD yesterday I think it was, the measurements were bigger than his crate but it just LOOKED more cramped. Bundy is going to be a big boy so I want to make sure he as lots of room. I've never seen a soft crate in person Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I am not planning on buying one until after Christmas unless we get desperate.

Is There A "dog Friendly" Lounge Suite?
Bundyburger replied to LizT's topic in General Dog Discussion
*looks at dirt brown former cream leather couch and back to the dogs* *looks at holes in said leather and back to dogs* Microsuede all the way here.. We have leather atm, albeit second hand and really old and I don't like it. It's a pain to keep clean when you have dogs allowed onto the couch, stains in a blink of an eye (again could be age) and I just don't like them. To be honest I'm contemplating throwing them out and moving the others back in I'm not convinced that even new leather would stand up to the wear and tear from my dogs! The microsuede on Mum's couch is awesome... even when the dog peed on it, you got it out easily. -
Constipation.... My Boy Has It!
Bundyburger replied to Sunnyflower's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ok good to know.. This is the colour she is getting when she passes them! I'll just put it down to being a stinky butt! When my boy was on a soley raw diet his poop was white and didn't smell.... My mum just emailed me to say my 'grandma' girl (14yo), Tash is all constipated.. I've passed on some of the comments from here.. Hopefully she'll be back to normal by the time I go to visit her on Saturday. Have suggested a trip to the vets if she's not better tomorrow. -
Hullo Firstly you need to breathe. Have you made outside time fun for him? We got our boy used to being outside by playing in the yard and leaving him toys/bones to play with when we were not there. He has our other dog for company, but if he doesn't have toys to play with he will sit at the door and scream for hours and I mean SCREAM, this dog doesn't howl while our other dog sleeps in his kennel. You need to get him into the routine from the start, so I think you just need to tough it out. If you think it will be causing an issue for the neighbours, talk to them and explain you have a new puppy and he will do this for a few days, and can they let you know if it gets *really* bad eg 8-9hrs for weeks and weeks and you will look at your options. He is only a baby and I am su re they will be understanding. Our neighbours are doggy on one side, and deaf on the other, so they were very understanding when we explained. He is only a baby and you are his family, so he will take some time to adjust. I am assuming you only got him on the weekend? That's only 4 days, he will still be adjusting so of course he'll be really upset. By the end of the week he probably won't even care!

That's basically what my vets said. They'd rather he get a nice controlled walk and collapse in a heap and sleep than do damage trying to climb out of his pen (which he was doing!) and zooming around the house. It was amazing the difference
-
Treasure hunt here. Don't care as long as there's no poop by the steps, and it's outside.
-
I use it as treats. Bugs goes troppo for it.
-
Bundy does it to Diesel and Tash used to do it to our other dog.. I think it's a dominance thing, they do it because the other dog is boss. I could be wrong but thats what I was told ages ago.
-
Yep my hinges are stuffed after 2 months. Am now rethinking getting another one.. Might get one from Erny instead.
-
To the first question, yes that happens to me a lot. My dog has been taught to walk beside me most of the time however every now and then on our walks he's allowed to walk on a 'loose lead' meaning he can be anywhere from beside me to in front of me, as long as he isn't pulling me along. If he pulls he gets sat on his butt quite quickly and will then resume walking next to me of his own accord. He is WELL aware of who is the pack leader/s in our house, and it sure isn't him.

It took my fellow about 5-6 days to be back to normal. He was unlucky and reacted badly to the anaesthetic though, so he would've bounced back quicker if not for that. When he was back to normal and trying to scale his pen from boredom, he got walked around the block. He's normally calm on walks so I wasn't worried about that at all. I would however check with your vet first, as mine had specifically said NO WALKS as his op was a bit more in depth, but because he was going to do more damage to himself without them eg breaking out of his pen and overdoing it, they said he could go. We didn't play games with him until the stitches came out, but he was smart enough to be sensible about it. He tried lifting his leg once, and decided it hurt too much.
-
Don't assume he WILL stay away though.. my agistment has a dog who chases my pony. One day he got too close to another horse who doesn't appreciate 'chasies' and got kicked in the head. Sure doesn't stop him going up to the hind legs!
-
I can see that getting a bit messy I actually wondered that.. how on EARTH do they get up higher when it's not narrow enough for them to turn around? Do they balance on one leg or something and spin like a ballet dancer?
-
What the heck? Where will they go when they reach the top?

Does Anyones Elses Puppy Rise When The Sun Does?
Bundyburger replied to aussielover's topic in Puppy Chat
I get bundy up when he squawks at 5.30 when OH gets up for work.. Let him out to toilet and I go back to bed. Wake up when the alarm goes off to Bundy asleep next to me on the bed most annoyed the alarm has gone off . Although now I can start walking him in the mornings he will soon be begging to go out for his walk! -
I fed them once. The ones we had got very splintery so I took them away. They made the dogs fart like troopers for days afterwards

I was wondering about this too. I was walking my boy on leash the other night and a dog rushed out of its property over the other side of the road. My boy is friendly but what would've happened if he didn't take kindly to being rushed from behind and jumped on? When the owners were asked to call their dog back they just asked "why" errr because you weren't paying one iota of attention and didn't have control over your dog until I yelled at you... They had to call three times before he went back over the road. Same people proceeded to walk their dog to the park minus a lead with the dog being nearly a full block in front.. effective control? I think not! If their dog rushes mine again I'll be reporting them, because what if it was someone else, or a child? My dog would never do anything (he purely wanted to play!) but I would like to walk around the neighbourhood without worrying about rushing dogs no matter whether they are friendly or not. I know if I'd been walking my bitch, it would've been a different scenario. She's fine with dogs face to face and slow introductions but not a dog rushing from behind like this one did. I walk her on leash and if I see a dog we swap sides of the road. She doesn't need muzzling for that.

Sounds like decent value. To put in a link here, you just copy it from the address bar and paste into your post Simple!

Feeding Meals Through Training - Raw
Bundyburger replied to Red Fox's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Are they better form a nutritional perspective or just a personal preferance? 4Legs contain coconut which I'm allergic to so I've not used them before. My dog does not like cabinossi. We do use cheese and left-over roast occasionally but more for drive work than marker training I actually get a better response to chunkers than 4legs... He will work so much harder. We're substituting this for majority of his meal as well. I tried feeding him his kibble through training but he spits it out The usual dried treats work but not on a regular basis. Bet it won't be long before he's bored of the chunkers
