  1. Sadly Dusty, an otherwise happy healthy dog was pts. My heart goes out to this family and the distress they must be suffering. RIP Dusty
  2. i agree with Poodlefan, my girl would never be happy in kennels, too much of a people person. I have a lovely niece who has agreed to look after her should anything happen to me.
  3. Agree with all these comments. They are just tormenting the poor girl.
  4.  These are priceless, sooo funny. Mine only rips up cardboard boxes thank goodness,
  5. Thanks BC Crazy, have just read that the 10 original and the 18 double have the same blade spacing, starting to look like that is the one. I must admit I am terrified I will end up with a dog with bald patches
  6. Thanks for the replies, I guess I meant stripping not thinning Anything that makes it easier for both of us is good as grooming is not her favorite passtime. I am trying to get ready for the coat blow as it is warming up here already (26deg), the mats I deal with almost every day, it doesnt help that she swims most days. The Mars web site suggests 18 wide for borders, but I will do some more research before deciding on size, It is good to hear what people are using on similar dogs. My they are expensive arn't they, still if they do the job they have to be worth it.
  7. Seeking advice please. My Border Collie has a very 'boofy' coat, I have just about got the matting under control At the moment I am using a furminator, wide tooth comb and finishing brush. I feel I need to thin out a lot more, she has a huge mane and back end, the middle is more like a normal border, hair is very fine and soft. I also feel that it would make her more comfortable come summer if I can thin out more. I am in a small town in the tropics and no groomers for many miles, so I have to attempt this myself. I think the Coat King may be a help to me and would appreciate any recommendation of suitable size.
  8. Aww what a cutie. Marlin used to steal socks and undies all the time and run off into the garden with them, she also enjoyed a good tug of war with them too. She has mostly grown out of it now but surprises me every now and again by rummaging around the workboots and coming out with the smelliest one she can find
  9. What a beautiful smile, so glad you found each other and had some time together. RIP Mushi pain free and running at the bridge.
  10. What a wonderful time you had, even though it was short, Miss Emma was a wonderful ambassador and will obviously be remembered by many for the joy and happiness she gave along with the lessons that age and not being the perfect example of breed do not stop you from enjoying every minute to the full. Cherish the wonderful memories you have of her. RIP Miss Emma and godspeed
  11. We have German friends who are convinced that feeding raw will make our dog eventually turn into a rabid man eating monster, apparently that is the general accepted opinion in europe These are young educated people who should know better, mind you he is prone to putting a friendly submissive dog on its back by the throat because she licks too much The one that really got my goat was a woman who I had just met, told me my dog was way overweight in a very condescending manner without even doing so much as patting her, thought she was an expert because she worked in vet reception 4 hours a week! Marlin was just blowing her puppy coat and has VERY big hair anyway, I was ready to kill before my OH dragged me off
  12. We lit some candles tonight, one each for Jay Jay, Whitey and Gypsy. Marlin and I sat and said a little prayer to wish them godspeed to the bridge. They will all be waiting there to meet you when the time comes. Wishing peace to you and yours. I am hugging my girl close tonight.
  13. Rachel I could not beleive you were here again. It is too much to bear to loose 3 in such a short time, please listen to others and seek some support for your grief. I will light candles for you and all your lost babies tonight. RIP Gypsy dancing over the rainbow with the others, a twinkling star in the night sky.
  14. I find any marrow bones too rich as well, but have fed chicken & lamb with no problems. Kangaroo bones are good too, but nothing that would last all day, maybe a whole tail would work, havnt tried the deer antlers yet! Some of the others I have tried are: cows hoves - very tough, my girl gets fed up and abandons them after about a week but recon a ridgie would do well with them :D rawhide treats - love these, the bone shaped ones, dont buy cheapies, good ones will last for ages I get a lot of my treats from http://australianpettreatcompany.com.au as i am remote and have to shop online for most things
  15. Marlin did this from day one, tipping all the bowls over! We solved it by giving her a bigger bowl, she promptly sat in it She has grown out of it, but she goes tothe beach daily and jumps in even though the water is freezing. If you have to put towels under the bowl and let her have fun.
  16. A damp chamois even better. Stick lint roller thingy here too, for carpet when I cant be bothered with the dyson I use a scrubber that is made for floor tile grout, gets all the stuborn bits out.
  17. Awww, beautiful lady, have a wonderful day.
  18. Never thought I would see the day I didnt mind a dog on the bed! She sleeps on the OH side when he is on night shift and I find it comforting, otherwise she moves around between her big bed in the bedroom, tramp bed outside, chair outside, tiles in the bathroom or veranda if it is hot, she is a real fidgit, and the dog door flapping allways tells me where she is! But she wont sleep with OH as he moves around too much and she grumbles at him She always comes for a cuddle and scratch first thing in the morning though that is sometimes 4am.
  19. My girl loved lying in the purple one to keep cool when we first brought her home, took me a while to work out that it was what was causing the terrible belly rash she had Dusted her with curash and ripped the lot out and had no problem since. You are lucky if it doesnt cause any problem. Bout the only stuff I could grow really well too
  20. A wonderful tribute to a wonderful brave soul, the long hard fight is over, he is whole and free of pain at the rainbow, with Jay Jay and all their friends. Take care of yourselves as you grieve. RIP Whitey
  21. What a tonic for a boring friday at work, I just loove all the clever/sneaky/funny dogs. Marlin used to have a thing for dirty socks but seems to have grown out of that, her latest game is hiding behind things and jumping out at me, or doing the BC stalking/herding me on her walk. The only thing I ever find in my bed is a big hairy dog, why do they have to take up the whole bed??
  22. I bought a Black Dog car harness about 6 weeks ago and am very happy with it. We did a long trip, about 4,000Km in total, and Marlin was quite happy to step into it each day and rarely got tangled.:D The only time there was a problem was when my OH put it on upside down and she slid right out of it They do them in red as well.
  23. I had a huge bag of them, my girl chewed and chewed and couln't get through one, then got thoroughly bored with it. I got sick of tripping over it, tried a fresh one with the same result and ended up giving the bag to the local rescue group, same deal with dried kangeroo bones bought to keep her happy on a long road trip. Think she is just too used to the fresh ones.
