    Car Lunging

I have never assumed that she is 'cured' of lunging. We daily walk the beach off leash where there are cars and motorbikes driving up and down, she is made to stop and sit when any approach, both for her sake and for the driver to know where she is She has started to sit without being asked when she spots a vehicle, but I will never, ever assume that she will not chase them. I dont think any dog can be trusted not to chase a vehicle given the right distraction, and I try to stay aware. It sounds like you are making great progress, well done I am more and more concerned at the number of people who exercise their dogs by making them chase a car!

    Car Lunging

I had the same problem when Marlin was the same age. We live in a country town and she had not really seen much traffic, I was looking after my sick mum in Perth and took her for a walk early morning, we were walking along a busy road and she wanted to lunge at every car, truck, and motorbike, I was horrified . For the next few days I took her to the same road and made her sit and rewarded her for everytime she didnt show any indication that she wanted to chase after a car, she learnt pretty quickly, after a couple of days she was fine to walk alongside the traffic. I still have to be vigilant when a particularly noisy or fast vehicle is approaching and warn her quietly, but generally she doesnt bother with them at all now.
  10. What can i say except good luck to you and lost of hugs, will be thinking of Chase
  11. Marlin had so many dreadies, she was really bad behind her ears and her pants were just big matts! She HATES being brushed, so much so I thought I was hurting her The combination of onset of summer, swimming every day, huge dropping coat, her very big long coat, and my complete lack of any idea of what I was doing when brushing did not help . We had an experienced groomer visit our small remote town recently so I took the opportunity to book her in for a session and she was kind enough to allow me to watch/help and gave me lots of tips, showed me the right tools to use, mainly the medium/fine comb, and not to put up with her nonsense. She combed out most of the dreadies cut a couple out and had to cut out most off the matts on her bottom. The groomer is not likely to visit again until after Christmas, so i have to make sure she is brushed daily, I use a leave in conditioner (human style) when I rinse her off after her swim and that seems to have helped heaps, and we have a 5 minute session every morning to comb her out, she still hates it, but puts up with it cos she gets a walk after :D . I have found that leaving her collar off when we are home helps with the ear dreads, I am very careful around her tummy and use a spray detangler on any sensitive areas, but dont hesitate to cut them out if needed. I feel I still dont know completely what I am doing but figure it cant be too bad as there have been no more serious matts or dreads as I am now on top of them as soon as they appear. I can recommend a little bit of instruction if you can get a professional to help.

  15. Dont despair, he will get there eventually. Maybe when you get the door and move his loo outside things will change, he is still only a baby. I have had a different but similar situation in trying to teach my girl to go on a pet loo on the balcony when she has always had access to a garden, I had been trying for months months before we moved in and I thought it would never happen, but it did, as soon as we moved So keep up the good work and good luck.
  16. Just had to share, I am both pround and releived. We have been building a house since Marlin was about 5 months old. She will not have fences or a yard to play in for some time but we have a massive upstairs veranda so for the last couple of months have been trying to get her to toilet on some false grass on top of kitty litter, I was despairing of her ever using this home made pee & poop station, as she seemed to hold on for hours and hours, and just looked at me in disgust when I led her to her area ;) . I was getting pretty stressed as there are a couple of days a week where she is home alone. I had tried all the tricks DOLers had advised to no avail. Well we moved in on Friday and just as all the helpers were leaving there she was squatting on the plastic green stuff without any prompting The boys must have thought I was nuts getting all excited about the dog peeing Now its full steam ahead so to speak, she has obviously decided that she is home now, and only has the plastic grass to use, so I can leave her without either of us stressing about toileting.
  17. Marlin is allowed indoors at home, but not at certain friends house, I only had to tell her once and now she knows that she has to stay outside when we are there, she does not try to come inside even if the door is open, although she does lay with her head on the step and periodically gives a big sigh just to remind you she is there
  18. 20kg BC diet for 7 days approx 2.5% of her weight 1.75kg Raw meaty bones - chicken carcass, drumsticks, wings, kangaroo, lamb shanks, flaps, brisket, goat 400g fish 450g minced roo or chicken 500g vegie slops (veg & some fruit blended) 200-300g offal mainly kidney & liver added to meat meals egg yohurt omega oil once a week I get everything out and usually bag this into 2 x days fish & bones, 3 x days mince & bones, 2 x bones only get loads of veg once a month (ood and specials) and freeze into 100gm blocks if hungry I give her extra vegie slops (fills her up with less calories) total amounts can vary sometimes more sometimes less good luck and have fun
  19. Hi nushie, real easy to make one, basic handyman would be able to do it, a few bits of timber offcuts are all that are needed, very cheap to do. We had one my OH made until the door became a bit small for her. OH didnt have time to make another as he is building new house atm! does cut out a fair bit of light though compared to the bought one. We did use perspex for the flap and that helped.
  20. RIP Nelson , you were failed by so many in such a short time. Thank you k9angel, rescuers and fosterers, the staff and volunteers at pounds all over the country who do care and try to give all the Nelsons out there a little love and affection.
  21. ;) Marlin thinks it is just the best fun, and a great way to exercise, expecially if you have one of those lazy BCs like mine who think it is just silly to chase a ball more than twice She will stand and stare at the hose hoping water is just going to magically appear, throw the water around the yard and she will chase it until soaked muddy and exhaused, it is doggie heaven, but then she is a complete water baby. I am thinking of getting one of those sprinklers that pulse in different directions as a boredom killer
