  1. Looks like thread got a little hijacked here My experience has been my girl stopped eating kibble on her own accord at about 7 or 8 months. She has been fed raw since 6 weeks, and on breeders advice allways had a bowl of kibble available to her between feeds. I have allways fed mainly chicken mince and kangaroo chunks, and lots of rmb, occasionally beef mince. The only time she gets kibble now is sometimes stuffed in her kong. Do your research and decide the best for your puppy and your circumstances. So yes, kangaroo is fine.
  2. Agree with all these comments. Your girl sounds very clever but she is still a baby even though she is doing so well with her training and wants to be close to you. Big changes are scary for her, make them more slowly and give her time to adjust to each move. My experience is all I can offer as the are all different. My girl slept beside me in her bed for the first couple of months, then slowly moved herself to her bed in the living room, - I am ashamed to say I was devastated the first time she didnt sleep by me But she is an independant miss, by the time she was about 10 months old, during winter, she enjoyed sleeping outside on a tramp bed or her favourite chair, and for a time would be up with the birds at 4.30 jumping on us to say good morning and wanting to play, and then would take herself off for anouther couple of hours sleep Now it is summer here and still very hot at night (still 28 at 1am) she is in the bedroom in the airconditioning, but I have no doubt that she will take herself back outside as soon as it is cool enough. She still goes out between 4 and 5 for a pee and says good morning when she comes back and then settles in for another snooze. My OH jokes he has never known a dog with so many beds! I will say that we tried our best to make our home puppy friendly and she was never destructive or a chewer. Your girl sounds very clever, but little steps will make things easier for her to adjust to where you eventually want her to sleep. Sounds like your biggest problem is educating your OH Good luck with both of them.
  3. Knowledge in copious amounts Dolers have educated me in so many ways, hadnt had a dog since I was a child had no idea about anything I am a research nut too, so found that some of the things I worried about were silly, learnt that dogs are not meant to eat what we do, somewhere to ask questions no matter how odd, how to teach my puppy the right things, that there are wonderful people out there who really CARE, I have immense respect for anyone involved in rescue. DOLers really are an awesome bunch Did not realise - or maybe did not want to - the implications of pet shops, indescriminate breeding, pet farms, irresponsible owners, breed discrimination, that the RSPCA is not allways right I too find it difficult to visit the rescue and rainbow bridge forums and news, they can be too confronting for me (head under covers) also embarrasing to be caught bawling eyes out at work I think Dol has made me a much more responsible owner, my dog is well behaved, social and healthier because of DOL.
  4. Good on the magistrate for rejecting his excuses, the article does not record the fact that he went on to brag about killing the poor dog. I hope he never gets hold of another animal to torture. :D RIP puppy
  5. :D Lovely lady, a great story of a great survivor, so glad she is back with her handler. I hope she gets to spend the rest of her days with him.
  6. We go to the beach most days and Marlin loves her daily swim and walk plus of course the mandatory roll about in the sand and seaweed! She gets a thorough rinse off and towel dry when we get home but it is impossible to get the sand out of her very long coat so it just falls out as she dries yeah usually on the carpet/bed/floor. No shampoo seems to be necessary other than about once every 3/4 months but I do use leave in conditioner to help with the tangles and minimise the matting and sun damage.
  7. Yeah I kinda thought it was a bit much to expect any response, but it would be really nice. I just have a happy thought of some lucky dog chewing the huge dried kangaroo bone and other goodies I sent and the handler enjoying the jerky and lollies, thats good enough for me
  8. Brilliant, hope she doesnt do it again! So happy for you both
  9. What a great looking family! Tobias will allways be there in your hearts.
  10. Such lovely stories, I am sure there are hundreds more out there too. Our kids look after us in so many ways
  11. :D Great News, thanks for passing it on
  12. Thanks to all DOLers for the wise words, knowledge, laughter and tears throughout the year Merry Christmas (click to view) Wishing you and yours peace and happiness
  13. Dont be daunted by feeding raw, its great for both you and the dog! I agree wholehearted with the formula Sandra777 has suggested. My girl is around 20kg and I feed around 400-450 gms a day, spread over 2/3 meals. I get a variety of meat and bones out of the freezer once a week and parcel it up into daily bags, usually 1.75kg meaty bones, 750g meat (beef, chicken, roo, goat whatever i have) around 300 gm fish, then some offal and vegies. I process vegies/fruit. Hit the supermarket for the left over/damaged/marked down ones and put a heap throught the processor, freeze in blocks around 100g, and can do enough to last about 6 weeks in one hour session. Extras I add are Omega oil daily, leftover rice/pasta if there is any, tsp natural yogurt, an egg occasionally. Nothing is precise and will vary slightly from week to week. The comment on water content is so true, we are in the tropics and I am amazed at how little water my girl drinks. As has been said, introduce different things slowly, balance over time, learn about your breed specifics and above all dont stress
  14. ;) Brilliant love them all. Now if only she would stay still for a minute................
  15. Thanks for the reply labsrule. I hope that this does not turn into a battle for ownership. One would have to question why 6 years after surrendering the dog they would want her back . imo I agree it is appropriate for her handler to keep her.
  16. Your heart must be breaking, loosing two beautiful furkids in such a short time. RIP Cooper and Suki, together forever over the bridge ;)
  17. Just wondering if anyone knows if Sarbi the EDD dog that was lost for 14 months in Afghanistan will be home soon? last I read she was in quarantine in Dubai, must be nearly 6 months now.
  18. Bumping to remind all that the parcels must be in Sydney by 2nd December. I posted my 3 today, wanted to put so much in them A big :D to Pharmacy Online who sent me heaps of sample sizes when I mentioned what my order was for, things I could not have aforded otherwise. :D
  19. that is so funny we only moved a few streets but she wouldnt get out of the car for hours just in case we left her behind and moved again..... now when we go to the old house she refuses to get out of the car again
  20. Educate the children. Teach them about reponsible pet ownership. Done correctly what they learn at school is taken home and put into practice, I have heard kids that have been taught about littering and environment nagging parents to make sure they dispose of litter appropriately and make use of recycling.
  21. Cruash powder available in supermarkets and pharmacies helped my girl heaps
  22. Beautiful tribute to a much loved Harry, forever chasing the frisby over the rainbow. RIP Harry
