Show bred greyhounds are a rare breed in this country. They are my breed and they are not bred very often. 2011 there were 12 born, 2012 none.
-
I breed to help keep the breed alive in this country.

and how many entire dogs shown are actually bred from? Not all of them that's for sure. And who would know how many are actually fertile? Very easy to slip a desexed bitch ( not a coated breed ) into the lineup along with the dogs that have been implanted. And there are plenty of entire dogs that should not be bred from as well. Neuter class still showcases the breed, people can get to see more then one example of the breed (in my breeds case), the dog enjoys it, it encourages new people to the sport. My adult daughter has started with my neuter bitch and they are having a ball together.

very hard to get hold of an under 12 week old pup. That's when they are ear branded. Most racing people want to hold onto them to see how they turn out. Price can be high as well. I have put people onto puppy selling sites when they ask my about a pup and I don't have any. Sometimes an oops litter is born or there is one that has been stood on and damaged a leg so ok as a pet, not suitable for racing. As for show bred, very few and far between. Easier to get a GAP grey then a puppy grey.

The vet wrap, as I recall, just made their legs feel different so the dog was more aware of them. I assume the weights were for the same reason. I can't remember what I did when the vet wrap was on, just walks around the yard I think, or maybe some cavaletti. -
Greyhounds often live outside with a kennel in a yard. Some live in runs in tin sheds. Some live in sheds but with cooling and heating. Mine are outside at night when I go to work. They survive quite well, good kennels, good dog coats on in the winter. I actually thought a greyhound may suit the OP but they apparently want a puppy.

I've sent a message to Sway to come and look here. Her PM's are turned off.

Although it shouldnt if coded properly, and uses things like percentages and not fixed widths *Removes geek pants* it's a DOL one, no codes. (that I can see or work out)

My web site has links on it to my video's and my "fun" photos though there are a sprinkling of them on the site. Mainly it is show photo's though. Sometimes photo's and text can be a bit disjointed depending on what monitor you are looking on. Mine, on my laptop, has everything where it is supposed to be, on the desktop monitor (squarer) things can be out of place. So sometimes, don't think a sloppy looking website is a bad one, try another monitor first.

I'm lucky in that I normally work night shift so the dogs are out at night and inside sleeping with me during the day, I have ceilings fans and aircon and use them. Over Christmas I worked some afternoon shifts and shut ( and locked ) the kitchen door and left the air con on. The back door was open for the dogs to come and go. Kitchen is the coolest place in the house. The cat had the rest of the house and her cattery to come and go as she pleased. I am not looking forward to trying to sleep in the daytime over the next fortnight, sometimes I put the dogs cool coat over me as well!

if a club offers it then the club should treat it the same as any other class. I have been to shows where the prizes are not the same value as other classes and I have been to shows that have run short of certificates to give out or they have written it out after you win. Still waiting for my missing one and the one written out after we won doesn't have the judges signature on it. Suspect my missing one will be the same once it arrives. Luckily both were from Vic shows so I don't have to send them in. I was asked once why I didn't show my neuter as the card had been written out for her. So what, the card is 50 cents, they had my entry fee and they didn't have to give out the sash or prize. Think they came out on top.

There are risks with importing a dog too. There was a thread a short while ago in the Breeders forum about dogs being bought out who proved sterile even though they had pups/were tested in their home country. Not good to lose money either way but $5000 on dud FS is cheaper then $15000 for a dud dog. OS breeders often send more then one breeding unit over anyway in case of a miss, it's something you can negotiate at the time.

oh yeah but I just used vet wrap on the back legs, that was enough for my GSD to notice. I also used the TT body wrap and walked her around in it for a few minutes at a time. Was a long time ago.............. she would have been 20 this month! -
Yes, you can. Which test are you considering? M Murves, at the end of June. Dog would be 2 and 5 days. Yippee Rebanne I am tossing up either our Whippet (Darcie) or the Sarge (Papillon) to put through our trial  Don't get too excited  I've wanted to get Fern through for the last 3 years and it hasn't happened yet due to various issues with both her and me! No issues with Warrior but me........ hmmm we will see.

I know I scattered brooms etc in a rough pile (like pick up sticks) and walked the dog over them. As they were random the dog really had to think. Think I got this trick from Morgan Spectors clicker training book. -
Parti colour, all my boys (4 greyhounds) have been parti colour. My girl is red though. The darker the better when I had GSD's.
-
Thanks for the results Sway, nice to keep in touch with the results from long distance
-
can you enter an ET with a dog who will be 2 on the day of the test but won't be 2 when entries close?
-
Well with GSD's I was always aware on how other people thought about them. Plus my daughter had a friend who was terrifed of dogs and no way was I going to risk a false accusation. If the dogs were locked up they couldn't be blamed for scaring her or knocking her over. Parents freaked cause I let an 8 week old puppy run around in the same room as the kids and I.
-
I was locking my dogs up long before I found DOL. I had GSD and no way were they going to be put at risk because my child and friends wanted to play. Poor little boy, hope he recovers well.
-
My dogs took no notice of the official fireworks. But Fern was mildly disturbed by the illegal ones going off occasionally. Just random bangs, very loud, that sounded like they were going off in the backyard!

no he can have a bit of "mush" now. But it could have been the heat.
