  1. when my greyhound pinched one a couple of Christmas' ago I just kept an eye on him and fed him as normal. I reasoned the food would help protect his innards from the bones and to pass them along quickly! He was fine
  2. I wouldn't have believed there are so many prefixes in Australia
  3. me too, mine was $50, well worth the money. Got it about 15 years ago, not used a lot but invaluable for when I do need it.
  4. set your alarm to get up at least once in the night, it won't take long before you can sleep through the night.
  5. Feed Barkly in his crate or the laundry and ditch the puppy food, he's not a puppy anymore. ETA spelling as always
  6. My nearly 12 yo mutt has 3 on her torso and has had them since a very young dog. Slightly increased over the years but they don't cause her any problems thankfully.
  7. have you tried adding kelp to his food? It's a natural boost for the thyroid. I had Fern's T4 tested recently as greyhounds can have a low thryoid and her reading was 15.7 within a normal range of 1 - 19. I always knew greyhounds naturally had a lower range but it is interesting that other dogs are between 20 - 60.
  8. no way would I give any dog of mine a vaccine containing a triple dose of chemicals.
  9. Congratulations What is it? Thankyou, its "XINLU" its Tibetan Oh and I got a 96% pass rate in the exam, which was ok I thought. I went and had a look at the prefix site trying to guess which one was yours. I guessed wrong I like Xinlu

    Desexing

Really ? please explain Thought the dog was a male, but I assume bitches lose drive when desexed as well. Tis' the reason working dogs are entire, after all. Not entirely sure how I explain it. Remove the dogs balls or girly bits and the dogs drive drops. Do you need a diagram? Rubbish, never dropped my working GSD bred girl's drive at all.
  11. I fasted a 6 week old kitten once for 24 hours, under vet advice. Kitten survived, so did I. You could certainly fast a pup for 12 or 24 hours, but only withold food, still leave the water down.
  12. I have to say I can't fault K9+Katz Kitchen. I ordered the Artemis food yesterday and it arrived today Now lets hope it agrees with the dog
  13. I've just ordered a bag of the Artemis grain free food from Melbourne and postage was only $7 extra to Wangaratta so I am impressed with that bit. Hope the food is as good as the price
  14. Please don't withold water from a pup overnight. It wouldn't take long on our hot Aussie nights for a pup to get dehydrated. If spilling of water is a concern you can give ice for a pup to lick, or drink as it thaws out. Make sure you don't spend all your time with your pup, as hard as that will be. Those first two weeks will have taught the pup alone time is not so bad, don't undo all the good work by always being together for the next 6 weeks. Pups need to learn to be alone too. Sort out where the pup will be staying once you are back at work and right from the time pup arrives home have that spot as the pups spot. Keeping in mind that as the puppy grows you might need a bigger area. I don't see anything wrong with a bathroom or laundry for a summer pup. Don't start habits for a pup that you will not want to continue when he is full grown. I certainly wouldn't be sitting in the back seat of the car with him because one day there will be no one available to sit with him, then what? When he does something cute and funny but a little bit naughty, ask yourself if it will still be funny when the pup is full grown, if not then you need to deal with it now, i.e biting bare toes Love him and have fun with him but remember pups very quickly become dogs.
  15. I have never had a dog suffer from this but everything I have read says let them have a season 1st. Do a google search and go from there.
  16. Hills, please no Fern and I managed a couple of right turns today and we went 3.5 kilometres with barely a puff between us. Not bad for a greyhound and a more mature, very unfit person. In fact Fern is racing around with a squeaky toy ET here we come, it will be my 3rd.
  17. well I would say the companies claim is correct. Haven't done any right turns yet but I can assure you that Fern, who does not have a lot of loose leash walking by my side experience , was gaiting very well besides me on the bike with the lead from the walkydog loose most of the time.
  18. I wondered if it was because she's so long that the back tire might have brushed her as we turned even though I tried to make it a very wide turn. Oh well I have a nice little starters route that I can do that only has left turns. Don't want to put her off too much or she won't go!
  19. I got my walky dog today and gave it a try with my greyhound Fern, on a harness. We did very well in a straight line, but need a bit more practise on the cornering, she was alright turning to the left but jacked up each time we turned to the right. Will have to keep a close eye on her "armpits" until she is a bit more okay with it all. I also had a collar and lead on her. I felt so much safer and more in control than just using a collar and lead.

    Angus

You both put up a good fight but it was not to be RIP Angus Take care of yourself Danois, you did what was best for Angs
  21. I suggested he put her in her crate cause I knew she was looking for trouble. IMO she didn't need to go to the toilet, she was just being a brat cause she didn't get her way. I do give her lots of praise when she pees outside. This has been going on for over 2 years now. Clearly we're doing something wrong, but hopefully some consistency with NILIF will help matters. why is it impossible for her to have been wanting the toilet in this instance?
  22. my thought too, sore higher up the leg, maybe the shoulder.
  23. very good. I am finally starting to dabble in layers.
