  1. Vaccinating against KC does not prevent it unfortunately. It only covers a few strains and like the human cold, KC has many, many forms. My guess is that she does have KC. Keep an eye on her, don't take her out in public and get some cough medicine for her (there is one type that can be used for KC - I can't remember what its called). ETA: I just found some info that says children's Robitussen can be given. I would ring the vet and ask if they recommend this and what dosage.

    Penny

I am so sorry for your loss. And you're right - it doesn't matter how old they are, it still hurts just as much to let them go. RIP Penny.
  3. Hope the ECG goes OK. May I ask what happened to little Rusty?
  4. The powerful blow dryers are the best - but you might need goggles and a mask!! Ahh memories of drying labs, huskies, mals, st bernards, etc at the end of winter... LOL!!

    Uh Ohhhh!

I think its pretty simple - hope so anyway! I know how you feel too - when my girl was younger, she chewed through all the wires on the pool filter. And it WAS on!! When mum picked up the loose end, she got a shock! No idea how Maisie didn't electrocute herself!!
  6. That's exactly what he does! He will literally hover over her until she's finished, to make sure he hits that exact same spot. It's not happening in the house anymore so I guess I'm not that concerned but just find it strange - especially as he rarely marks his territory when we're out walking! At least he doesn't pee ON her - my boy also has to mark over my girls pee, except he can't wait until she finishes so usually just pees ON her.

I am pretty sure cords can be replaced. You might need to get an electrician to do it though (which will probably cost almost as much as a new freezer!) but if there is a sparky coming to do the point, he can probably fix it for you then. My OH's Dad fixes all his own cords when they get damaged, so I know it can be done!!
  8. I am so sorry. RIP beautiful girl.
  9. I am so sorry. You have had a rough time recently. RIP sweet kitty.
  10. My dogs are both scared of stairs! LOL! They have recently started coming inside at night, and come upstairs to our bedroom. Going up they are OK, but going down is another matter. They wait at the top of the stairs until I go down and turn the light on, then they cautiously stagger down! LOL!

    R I P Max

My grandparents beautiful old Dobe was PTS this week at the grand old age of 13. He was my grandfather's pride and joy. Max was one of a litter of just two pups, and my grandparents were lucky enough to get to meet him when he was only a few weeks old. They maintained a great relationship with his breeder and when they went away, Max would stay with her. He survived a horrific accident when he was young after he crashed into a tree chasing a ball at full speed. He compacted his spine and it was touch and go for a while, but they never gave up on him. It took a long time for him to recover, but eventually he was pretty close to his original self. He loved chasing a ball and even up until last week, he was still going for a romp in the park. Every morning at 6am my grandfather would get up and take Max for a walk to get the paper. As he got more stiff, he would drive him to the park instead. Last week, Max didn't want to go for his walk. He could hardly walk and was very wobbly. They knew it was time to let him go. He was never a show dog, never won any obedience trials, but he was just a wonderful dog. So loyal, so affectionate and so gorgeous. RIP Max. ETA: I managed to get this video of Max when I visited my grandparents earlier this year. He just adored my grandfather.
  12. I am so sorry. We had to let our cat go recently and even though he was 16 and his kidneys were failing, it was just awful. But I know our babies are free from pain and age now, and are waiting for us at the bridge. RIP beautiful girl.
  13. I am so sorry. RIP sweet girl.
  14. My dogs have tattoos and so do my cats. I would ALWAYS get a female animal tatooed but I don't think its necessary for the boys. I just think what if god forbid one of my girls ended up in a shelter? I would want them to know she was desexed so she didn't have to be opened up again.
  15. What does 3-10 month old dog mean? How old was the dog when sold, how old when the owner said it had worms?
  16. I just got chills. And now I have tears in my eyes. I hope my lost animals are all around me. I hope they know how much I still love and miss them.
  17. Of course it does - expensive area means higher rent for her. And I just think its not always true. There are lots of vets around my area who charge a fortune but I have not been happy with a single one of them.
  18. This is not necessarily true. The vet who does my cats is one of the cheapest around (if not THE cheapest). She is also located in an expensive area. However, she genuinely cares about animal welfare so she keeps her prices as low as possible to make it more affordable for everyone. She also runs the Cat Protection Society and is probably the most experienced and compassionate cats vets around.
  19. That brought tears to my eyes. :D She sounded like a lovely dog and I am sure she knew how much you loved her.
  20. Thank you so much!!! They are awesome!!
  21. Could somebody kindly make me a new sig? Actually two... Could I have one for DOL with all the pics, and then one for my other forum with just the cats (the size requirements for that forum are 350x200 pixels). I want them to be fun and bright if possible. And I love pink if that helps... Thanks so much!! Smudge (if you could turn this around so it looks like she's laughing, that would be awesome!) Otto Rockling (not sure which pic to use?) Ablett Champa Maisie
  22. I think you will know. They will look at you and you will see it in her eyes. As long as she is not in pain or upset, there is no reason to rush the decision. My mum's dog is 17 and going senile. She has growths all over her (which are not cancerous), has arthritis, is deaf and going blind. But she seems happy enough. She is not suffering at all.
  23. I am so sorry. I love Newfies and always smiled when I saw his pic in your sig. RIP Spike.
  24. OMG CDM I can't believe how expensive it is in Canada!! Ouch!!
  25. I would be ringing around and maybe contacting some shelters to see if they do it cheaper. Last time I had a dog desexed was a female BC in season, cost about $160 I think. I know it was less than $200.
