When I called this morning he was still groggy from the GA but he is improving. Will get a call mid morning with more details. Just a note to everyone: Have pet insurance. In a situation like this it has enabled us the freedom to choose what is best for his health not double guessing ourselves becase of costs ect. myzchev I still don't think it has really sunk in yet.

Should I Get A Second Opinion?

I would rather an unessecary surgery then him dying from a bowel or intestinal rupture because I was hesitating "just incase" it was for nothing. The surgery allowed them to confirm gastroenteritis, let his stomach down (it was full of gas) and change thier treatmeant plan from sustaining hydration and keeping im alive for bloackage to pass to treating gastroenteritis. Lincoln has just come out of surgery. They couldnt find anything but he has severe gastroenterits (she said his whole intestines looked like corrugated iorn .) The vets prognosis is good, I should be able to visit tomorow though I think he will be there for awhile recuperating. -

When people find out I have a purebred entire dog: You know if you breed it you will make loads of money!
-
Thirded here, especially since Chesapeakes hold world records in dock diving!
-
In my breed only yellow or amber eyes are allowed, darker eyes are a DQ. :D My boy is a choclate brown with yellow eyes.

A possible intestinal blockage. More info in WA threads and in the health section.

I will keep that in mind about Balcatta GR but hopefully it will never be relevant.

He hadn't gone into surgery vet just rang to find out when he last ate and confirm again that I was happy to pay for surgery. -
Yep, but who cares hey?! :D I will when is being a terror and I realise how much in show entry fees I have wasted. (Fingers crossed) Amypie there are sort of emergency vets out my way but they are normally on call and don't answer the phone or try fobb you off. Murdoch is also the only one I know of that is manned 24/7.

Wow that is a long surgery! Had no idea it would take so long. Pls post back later how he went and I will check back first thing in the morning, will you be seeing him again tonight? Probably not. He will be pretty groggy from the GA and its a really long way to drive. I will go visit in the morning though if I can.

And to think was worried about a shaved patch on his leg a couple of weeks ago, the vet says he will come back pretty much bald.

Thanks everyone I probably won't be finding out till late this evening as I was told his surgery wil take 4-6 hours so I should hear by 10.00pm

I have pet insurence (thank god! or else I would be well over 5,000 and closer to 10,000 in debt to pay for this) because of Toby breaking his leg at 9 weeks and it costing a few grand. They say the blockage looks long and stringy from the ultrasound, I will let everyone know what it is, I have no idea what it could be. Thanks to DOL for teaching me to question vets or who knows how Lincoln would be going. I am so relived he is in knowlegdeable safe hands. -
There is a thread here that explains better: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...197813&st=0 Basically he suddenly had the runs and kept drooling I took him to emergency vet 1 diagnosis gastro, gave medicne and sent me home, called emergency vet 2 because I was unhappy with how he was looking and they were very dissmisive, call back in an hour, I called back in an hour, no answer so I called vet 3 Murdoch drove down now hes in surgery.

Everybody please keep everything crossed for Lincoln who is at Murdoch having surgery to remove an intestinal blockage.

Ultrasound revealed an intestinal blockage so he is either under the knife now or just about to go under it. Fingers crossed everyone. Murdoch is very competent so hopefully everything will be good! -

He has stopped shivering now and his nose is a bit cooler. Gums are returning to pink really quickly withtin 2 seconds of me pressing them but he is just drooling so much. Surely he will dehydrate if he keeps loosing flud from his mouth? -

Just my view but I dont like his gums are not returning to pink quickly ( within 2 secs) That could be a sign of shock, have you tried Applecross Vets or George Huber ( he usually can chat on the phne re probs and is a great vet) Midvale ( he generally will come in for cases like this too ) Good luck with him, and noone is ever dramatic with their dog, its when its too late and you wish you had been dramatic. WZ his gums are pink. That is what is making me think I am being so dramatic over his drooling. -
Today after walking the dogs I went out and got a call from mum to come home because Lincoln was dribbling a lot and had several watery greeny yellow stools in the space of 20 mins. I drove home and took him to his usual vet, at this stage he was slightly listless but the drool was troubling. The vet did a reactal exam, temp, felt his stomach/abdomen and checked his gums. She gave him a pain injection and sent us home with Scourban Antidiarrhoeal Susp and Metrogyl tablests. AT home we gave 10ml of the Scourban and the tablet. He is still slaivating excessively but has only had one diarrhorea since we got home. His gums are pink but in places where the skin is loose it is taking a while to snap back. He is asleep and extremely lethargic he is also shivering. It is a public holiday in WA (of course) and the vets I originally took him to are now closed. I rang the other emergency vet I could think of and the on call vet said that he would probably be better off at home with me to comfort him for now as all they would be able to do was give him an IV and to call back in an hour if I still thought Lincoln needed to be soon (got the feeling he was reluctant to be called in). Am I being a bit dramatic? Also would it help to give Lincoln an electrolyte drink instead of water (not that he will have either atm)?

If I didn't know better I would swear Lincoln is trying to beat Toby's world record of most time spent at the vet as a puppy. I am so glad I insured him the day I got him. I think not agility training Toby is really helping his training atm. He is so excited when he sees jumps he just races over them.
