  1. hello :D i wrote to my vet's contact link mid-last week and just got the following reply: edited to highlight the reference to nsw
  2. thanks everyone for your replies and advice :D i'm on the fly so i don't have time atm to take full note but i will get time thru the week i'm sure... i gotta go reply in the parvo thread!!!
  3. hello i'm doing my best to ensure my dogs get the best but man, chaos is my life as i'm sure it is for most other ppl! anyhoo, i reckon i can take some time each week to oscar up some raw veg BUT it won't last more than a few days in the fridge! SO my question there is: can you successfully freeze minced raw veg!?? look, i'd just go ahead and do it just for the sake of experimentation but i'd rather not go to that bother only to lose it when someone here may already have that answer! my head tells me the defrosting of said minced raw vegs would render said minced raw vegs to mush! SO my next question is: is mushed minced raw vegs okay!??! maybe i could add an egg!?!? but is that a good idea say 4 nites in a row?!?! now, the next phase of this thought process and i know that cooked vegs aren't as nutritious as raw, but can i freeze cooked and or mashed vegs!?!? and because i feed raw, is adding cooked vegs okay!?? listen, i'm not the cook in my household but i am the chief bottlewasher so the path of least resistance is my friend :D what say you dolers!
  4. ruby is gorgeous i hope you received good news today nicole!??!
  5. :D i have nothing useful to add ... i just wanted to wish you good luck and to say that i reckon dogs are just the best things ever thank you to the posters in this thread for your amazing dog stories
  6. it's so nice to read a happy story in this section
  7. i am soooo happy to hear that! thanks rottn
  8. hello *brave face* everyone's already said all there is about all the great things you've done for your beautiful pepi ... and srsly, there's nothing more i can add in that regard can i just tell you tho that there's this place that i heard about and it's just this side of rainbow bridge ... they call it the golden meadow and it's always spring there and it's where all our beloved pets play and run and wait without pain, perfect health returned! there's bubbling brooks to splash around in and butterflies to chase and the softest green grass, like velvet, beneath their feet and so many games to play with all the other furry friends that wait ... and when our time comes and as you draw near, a light breeze tingles along your beloved pet's body, quivering with anticipation, and it stops, it looks in your direction as you approach the golden meadow and those familiar sounds of pleasure and excitement that are now so distant in your memory again ring in your heart and then the caress of your long lost pet's body against yours when you finally meet again and as you both then fall in step, you cross the rainbow bridge together... that's all i wanted to tell you oh, and to agree with kody's mum about the paw print pendant ... it would keep a beautiful memory close to your heart
  9. the world's a much better place thanks jed, and thanks to those that shared their stories too...
  10. that's excellent news erny from what i understand, dogs will become compliant when they understand that something unpleasant is going to happen and nothing they do will prevent it from happening ... i'd also add that he's becoming used to the process and knows now that it won't harm him, in fact he's feeling better because of it and likely why he's been a bit more chipper lately
  11. sas, so are you saying that it's genetics!??! or that the naturally occuring antibodies [which is what i believe are the underused naturally occuring insult-fighters that go into overdrive at the slightest provocation because they have nothing else to do] are not being utilised by our dogs because we over-protect our dogs in case of a parasitic outbreak!?? maybe both!??! it seems to me that some of the allergies that affect our dogs may very well lie in either of the above two possibilities ... i believe byron's condition is strongly linked to genetics but i'm an advocate for both schools of thought... i'm a supporter of strengthening the immune system in our dogs, supplementing their diets with naturally occuring fortifying agents and cutting out the unnecessary protection, or at the very least minimise it, to lessen those incidents of the dog's condition so owners can then concentrate on what really is affecting their dog... i hope i'm on the right track... as for your VAN plan CONGRATS!!! but by what do you mean that your dog detoxed through his skin!??! did it make him smell!??! i shouldn't giggle but those mishaps had to make you at least smile despite the setbacks jeanne, there are others better placed to answer your questions, but for me, i'd say you're on the right track with boosting the immune system internally ... i think tho that some topical applications assist in depressing secondary infections so that internal supplements can make an impact on what's occuring visibly, if that makes sense... i don't know that skin problems can lead to all kinds of other problems, but what i can tell you is that skin problems does represent that one of your body's natural barriers isn't working, at least not functioning as it should... and yes, nourishing the skin internally and topically WILL help repair the skin but sometimes not to the extent that it was prior to the damage... erny, i too have cfs, likely due to being a pound of flesh from a previous life but also having had glandular fever and cytomegalovirus, gf's happy cousin, both undiagnosed during said previous life period ... there being no known cure and with the condition still in it's infancy, aspects are still being diagnosed, as was another aspect of it for me just one week ago! it's a helluva long uphill battle and i have bouts of it that last for weeks, particularly if i'm under a degree of stress and i'm not looking after myself properly... my doctor still hasn't been able to provide for me the perfect *solution* to keep me going day-to-day but with all the vitamins and supplements, i manage to get thru a day at work ... consistency tho in that regard is the issue! good luck in your battle as for supplementing the immune system, if i've been doing some research, and man, i do that up the wahzoo sometimes cuz i just want frikken answers BUT before i add anything to my diet i contact my doctor to make sure it won't have any ill effects with any other supplement i'm taking and we all know that some synthetic drugs are not to be taken with some natural supplements ... so, same i reckon goes for dogs! one supplement might react adversely with another... for some odd reason and if i was treating internally to counteract a skin condition, i'm inclined to use a topical application to alleviate physical symptoms and to prevent the possibility of festering sores ... that's how i reckon an ongoing allergy treatment works best: treat the condition internally but use a natural antiseptic topically to deal with the appearance, which is essentially my take on dealing with byron's condition ... strengthen his immune system with supplements internally and use natural products topically to deal with the physical effects of his condition...
  12. aj, that is excellent news and i'm really glad you've hit on a formula that works for wendell ... it could be that acv worked with the herbs and thus provided promising results! as for the tea and aloe, using them topically i believe protects the body from secondary infection and may add some physical relief to the site as opposed to actually healing a skin condition?!?! that is my understanding in any event my boy seems to be doing better too ... i'm avoiding the elimination diet and persisting with essential 6 in the hope that it stabilises his skin tissue externally! he's on his 2nd course, which is 1 tube per week for the next four [same as the first course] and then 1 per fortnight for 8 weeks [there's 4 tubes per box] and then i think it goes out to 1 per three weeks etc etc... during that time i intend to continue with the same diet, with supplements [acv, fish oil and probiotics] ... if i consider that byron could be doing better, i'll look at eliminating a food item from his diet that i *think* may be insulting his system... both my two are due flea treatment this weekend and i'm chosing to not administer it ... i'm quite certain that i applied a spot-on earlier in the week of the byron's last flare-up. spot-on flea treatment is high on my list of offending chemical... let's both hope *hard* that our continued best endeavours reap rewards for our beloved boys
  13. Skruffy n Flea, I looked at Pet Resorts for my guys and I would not touch it. The kennels are old and dark, the dogs are kenneled with dogs they don't know over night ;) It needs to be bulldozed and started again. By all means take a look and then you know but I was just so disapointed at the place. Try Calabash, it is 5 minutes up the road. Mine are going there next week and lots of my customers send their dogs and cats there. (They have the best cat run, wish I could have it at home) ty colliewood but srsly, given what steve said during his 5 minutes of fame i'm not going to give his website one more hit! thanks very much too for the calabash ref ... i gave their site a looksee and yeah, they appear to actually be much better than what i'd heard [and believed ] about that other place! i look forward to hearing about your personal experience so please, come back and let me, and others know
  14. i hated watching ... i hated seeing the looks on those beautiful faces while i listened to the gump coming out of the mouths of idiots ... i hated seeing how some of them cowered... steve austin's remarks shocked me ... pet resorts australia was where i anticipated boarding my two; time to research another... *sadness*
  15. wow! how interesting! there might tho be a palate issue cuz i think it has quite a distinctive taste and/or smell!??! i'd be willing to give it a go erny even just to see if it did help ... it can't hurt unless it has an adverse effect when taken in conjunction with something else. i'm sure the naturopath will clear that up for you... good luck and i'll keep checking back for progress reports
  16. WOAH! interesting! good move getting a 2nd opinion shells
  17. i got quoted up to 800 bux for a teeth cleaning *crikey* my two get bones every day we're at work ... things are looking good but i'll save byron's issue for another thread
  18. i had to giggle at that sometimes a person can be so consumed by a particular situation that they find it difficult to fathom for themselves how it all came about ... i've been in situations personally with both illness and situational and i know the effect it can have on a person's reasoning! i'm not playing devil's advocate here ... in the OP's case there seemed to be a butt-load of stuff and i got the impression from her posts that she was at her wit's end! i didn't however get the impression that she was looking for a fest of warm and fuzzy... she needed our help and most dolers gave it up to her in dollops ... it's just those few that made it hard for the OP to keep on top of it and for the rest of us to stay focussed enuf to offer something constructive! the upshot of my argument is that in all events, no-one but the OP [or poster] is as intimate with *their* situation as they are personally and some [not most] of us, as part of this community that this OP turned to, didn't need to turn on her and seemingly judge her in the manner they did... yeah, we could all be a little more thick skinned, learn to turn the other cheek and all that, but ya know what!?? when the chips are down and you feel you've got no where else to go, how would any of us feel should we have been in the OP's shoes? jmho :D
  19. this is something i need to start thinking about... later...
  20. i think if i put that into context as to my argument, it works for me unfortunately, i cannot put myself into the mind of any of those posters that appeared to have no empathy for the OP's position so therefore i cannot comment as to that side of the argument...
  21. i saw this on the 7pm project tonight... i didn't laugh tho after reading this: i object!
  22. In the brief outbreak of a real life I had while training and exercising the tribe, I had a good think about why some threads stay on track and others tend to get very heated. I think if I wanted to post for advice on a controversial topic, I'd outline the situation and ask for opinions, rather than saying "I've decided do X, what do you think" If you ask for opinions, people giving them will debate with each other. If you say you're going to take a course of action, people will tackle you directly. Certain types of posts are going to elicit different reactions to the poster from different groups on the forum. For example, people wanting to offload dogs without really trying to resolve issues (not thinking of Brooke here) will tend to get rescuers offside. I tend to empathise with those with dog aggression issues because I know what its like. Someone who's had a dog that's been the victim of a serious attack will come from another perspective. I don't think anyone with an issue need ever doubt that people here will have the dog's best interests at heart when they give advice. Problem is that what owners perceive as their best interests won't always be uppermost in posters minds. i completely and utterly agree with you ... ty i don't understand where peeps get off judging another and making a poster's lifestyle the bone to pick for them having to make a choice! that isn't constructive and proven time and again, totally counter-productive...
