  1. *loud applause* let's hope that downunder catches that cold... eta: i didn't read the whole post *sorry* --- i'm on my lunch break
  2. hi kat i'm so glad to hear you were able to locate your two boys and i sincerely hope you find your girl... my best wishes for a good outcome
  3. i'm in nsw and my local woolies has just started packaging chicken necks [as opposed to being available in the deli section] and they're available from their cold pet food section... ... and in the larger woolies store, they have turkey nex, wings and frames too!!! i was a tad gobsmacked but apparently [as i was told] someone said to their butcher section to get jiggy with the raw stuff for dogs and suddenly there it was! curiously, a month or so ago, i had something to say to someone in their butcher section about raw stuff for dogs!!! *yaymemaybe* pretty cheap across the board also... anyhoo, turkey nex are scary --- they look like penises [of the well-endowed kind] and yeah, taking to 'em with a cleaver is like a whole 'nuther experience *blink, blinkblink* just saying! so yeah, check out the cold pet food section of your local woolies
  4. not teebs, but i can tell ya it's not easy! bob usually keeps the inside of my elbows warm
  5. as i said --- i just now understand what this means
  6. i just now understood that! i lay on my couch and i occasionally have 2 swfs laying on top of me with bobkat between or behind my knees! the trick tho is when ya wanna or need to move...
  7. unfortunately, i have no pix of my own but it is heartbreaking to watch my 2 swfs stalk my postage stamp backyard in search of a safe place to dig --- they have any number of places to hide their booty but it is hard for them to feel comfortable with me watching so i leave and so on numerous occasions they've presented me with some of their prizes, several days old and covered in dirt... the best times ever tho are those when they've successfully buried booty without my knowledge and then they present to me with looks of glee and wonderment on their 'what? me!' ecstatic faces that are now smeared in grainy bliss and after some lighthearted interrogation, they happily trot away with their head held high, tongue lolling and flags waving above their cute lil fuzzy butts on stumpy legs, then bedding down to dream of good times to come... it's one of my favourite things about my two dogs --- it's probably the closest they come to being what they might have been eons ago
  8. THIS too srsly made me laughmyassoff k, i wanna delete the pix cuz i know it's against the rules to quote with pix --- but srsly, these pix are near priceless
  9. i like the lightheartedness of this thread i sit where i wanna sit as does my OH --- the 2 dogs and 1 kitty find room either on one of us or the other, beside either one of us or the other or both or one, or all three ditch us altogether and hit the floor, sleeping in their caves or on the many cushions spread about our house... humans in this house take possession --- the fluffies move when we wanna get comfy
  10. It hasn't got bad extension in it's mouth also. True, but just look athe the topline, reach and drive and you can see how stretched it's muscles are - awesome :D *Nods wisely like she knows what you're talking about* I do! . And I agree, RnL. The extension and the top carriage of the horse is stunning. as do i *giggles* srsly tho, when i was a kid growing up on the farm, we had a stock horse; a retired prancer [as we were told at auction]! she was difficult to ride at a trot because of her unusual 'prance' [she held her head high] but at a clip, all 18 hands of her flattened and flew without gait --- it was like riding the wind... a truly beautiful ride and although seafar was a dapple grey, that pic is an exquisite reminder
  11. well damn! your sid is just the cutest lil guy!!! and it's just the baddest thing that happened to him personally and until he's bigger, i'd be taking him to a small dog off leash park; get him used to puppy-size playmates --- but keep him close by until he's rebuilds his confidence and so he doesn't become stressed... my lil girl bella had an experience, no attack, just a big dog unfamiliar with how to play properly with a small dog --- bella, some time later, began to anticipate bigger dogs' behaviour and so would correct them and she is vocal too! we now only take her and byron, her housemate, to small dog parks --- she's happy to greet big dogs thru the fence but she is still wary of the activity around her in the small dog section of the park... i wish you luck with sid's rehab
  12. when i read this my heart believed this would be a way for your children's heart to heal --- it is such a perfect opportunity for each of you to write down what you loved about your missing dog and how much you hope to see her again and what games you will play when she comes home and especially how hard you will hug her and kiss her and tell her you and they will never let her go... kind of like writing your beautiful dog a letter maybe get them to seal their letter with a lipstick kiss!??! then maybe talk to your kids about taking on a rescue --- but before you do, gently let the kids know how badly it needs a home and how sad and lonely it is without one! i don't intend for you to play the guilt card; just that you could teach your kids that there are other dogs out there that are lost just like yours is, and you hope that someone loving, just like your kids, is taking care of your missing dog! let ypur kids know that rescue dogs are looking for their homes too and that there are other lost dogs that need a loving home cuz their life so far hasn't been so easy... i haven't read the whole thread so someone has likely said the same or a similar thing to me --- if so, i just hope for you and your kids that you find the right thing to do...
  13. did some good come of all this discussion !?!? was the pup saved?!? ETE
  14. for the kitties: bob came to me to teach me that some things are certainly not what they seem
  15. bella came to me to teach me that the universe really does speak in many different languages byron came to me to teach me how to teach him both came to me just to tell me that some things in life are far more important top thread
  16. age is not always a factor depending on what the problem is. If it has a genetic component of being weak nerve and low threshold to bite then you cannot totally fix it ... you manage it. You always have to keep an eye on the dog, work with it, socialise it day in day out and be prepared for outbursts. The dog fears people and reacts aggressively. If you think living life stuck in a backyard or run terrified out of its brain is the way to go or medicated up to the eyeballs to help it cope through god knows how much work will help then take it on - very very few people have the time or resources anymore to take on a HA dog that exhibits at such a young age. Most know the long term outcome and simply take the route that is less stress on the animal. I got a dog once, puppy farmed, never touched before 10 weeks. By 8 months he had bitten his owner and possessed their grandaughter aggressively, not even her father could get near. Coming to my place he flipped his lid and required 3 people to get him out of a crate with a catching pole. Now if I had the space I could have kept him. He never would have been a social dog or one to greet visitors, he would have lived in a run, spent time maybe with a dog he wasnt terrified with but apart from that lived quite an average life - is that fair? Vet was the other option as we considered him unrehomable. I did find an experienced angel for this dog but it was a one in a million. He lives as a companion to another dog he gets along with but he will never be 100% (I barely think 70%). But if they had not come along the vet was definately the only other option. You have to consider the animals quality of life as well, and despite the fact many people MEAN well and will take these dogs on very few have the experience to do it safely and properly. thank you i am attaining a much better understanding of this lil animal's future and it seems terribly bleak --- this dog will likely be more unstable than stable for its entire life and that, in and of itself, is the most unfair fact of this horrible circumstance... again, thanks
  17. There may be a chance of rehab for this dog skruffy, but the fact still remains that it is currently agressive and is living with a 4yo girl. It cannot stay there. So who will take it? Rescue orgs have a responsibility to the public to ensure that their dogs are safe, so they wont take it. I cant take it as i have a small child. And its irresponsible of her to rehome it to someone else as it could hurt a child. I wish there was an easy answer.....i was hoping there would be a rescue out there that specialises in these cases, but i now know there isnt. Sadly there is no place in this world for this little puppy. Gutwrenching isnt it? absolutely
  18. thanks kavik and poodlefan i understand and i'm horrified to think of the turmoil that lil pup is in and for it to still not have any hope of recovery
  19. i must add that i have absolutely no experience at all with aggressive dogs, be it da or ha, but i would think that the prospects of rehabbing a 5 mo old pup would be somewhat successful!
  20. this is heartbreaking! a 5-mo old pup!??! is there no hope for its rehabilitation?!!? surely, there must be --- it's only 5 mos old!!! the fact that whoever offered it free said it was papered and also that it is from working lines --- is it likely that person is a bs artist and only said those things just to inspire interest and get the pup off her hands!??!
  21. hello i won't be feeding my animals horse meat --- i grew up on a farm; we had a family pony, working horses and pacers and as much as i have issues with even beef and lamb, i cannot sustain a tolerance for feeding horse meat... horses worked with us and for us --- if cows and sheep did the same, i'd be in a difficult position... i don't eat pork...
  22. you've had some excellent suggestions in this thread i have a delicate lil boy that doesn't like getting his feet wet so we got one of these... it's an indoor/outdoor deal --- very little fuss; remove nuggets daily and once a week rinse both the tray and grass parts with plain water but once a month spray both parts liberally with a biozet solution [a tbsp biozet to 500ml water] and hose it thoroughly... it's big enuf for 2 swfs to dump on once a day and measures just a lil bit larger than the average door mat! it's a good price and for us, living in sydney, it cost $5 to courier... our 2 are outdoors when we're not home but if we're out for a short few hours, it's worked well for us good luck!
