  1. I hope Rolf is fully recovered now and he doesn't have anymore nasty reactions. Glad you found a vet you are happy with. Personally I don't think you should wait to be seein in a case like Rolf had, routine treatment can wait a little longer :)
  2. Sorry to hear this Julie I know PACERS has made a big difference to many people.
  3. Lucky for me I haven't needed to use my pet insurance recently and whenever I don't need to use it I am happy. Should the need arise then I can get the treatment needed without concerns about the vet bill. As for restrictions when I got my cat he was still on treatment for ear mites, there was a 12 month restriction on his insurance for claims related to ear mites only, he is now fully covered. All insurance - never want to use it, don't like paying the premiums but if I ever need it I am certainly pleased I've got it.
  4. Just saw he was missing and then he is home wonderful.
  5. I've got happy tears now not sad, so pleased she has come home. I can imagine your poor Dad was feeling sick with worry too hope he is happier now. After you have given the nawty girl a bath and some food I hope you all have a very good nights sleep.
  6. I don't leave a house I leave the kennel! Mine is free in the house but has easy access to outside, my neighbours also keep an eye on my house for me too.
  7. So glad he is home, Friday 13th must be a lucky day for you!
  8. Keeping fingers crossed here Alvin turns up safe and sound soon.
  9. I think it's recommended that if a storm is forecast and you're going to be out for the day to put it on the dog before you leave? Would not work in Melbourne, 30 during the day and pouring rain and freezing by 5pm. SwaY I have one on Sparkles now but won't leave it on when I am not around because I think she could get too hot or into trouble with it. Like Melbourne our days can be very hot and then the storm hits.
  10. I am certainly not a breeder and don't envy having to find good homes for puppies. I have rented with Great Danes and other dogs in the past in the country, Sydney and the Central Coast of NSW. While finding a rental to accept my dog was not always easy nor necessary cheap it is possible especially if you are a good tenant and have a record to show it. I am buying my home now so pets are no longer an issue thankfully. Rather than giving a blanket no to renters I would have thought it more appropriate to ask what will you do with the dog if you are unable to find rental accommodation that is pet friendly. I did have backup plans however none involved family as I don't have any to rely on. If there is some doubt about rentals I suspect there would have to be some doubt about single people being prospective owners too afterall lifestyles can change dramatically when you are single. Before anyone flames me I was single and renting and had a few dramatic changes first priority was always my dog and how do they fit in the scheme of things, if it wasnt' good for my dog then I didn't do it. Breeders would have to use their instinct a lot and feel comfortable with their puppy buyers honesty, afterall anyone can say they own their house when they are renting.
  11. There is more to being a good dog owner than obedience training, there are some clubs I would never go near. I have not done any formal club training with my girl but I certainly consider myself a good dog owner and have a very good dog. I walk her regularly to different areas, always pick up after her, she doesn't bark and cause a nuisance for my neighbours, she gets veterinary attention when required without hesitaion and never tries to leave home because she is bored. I would appreciate the council just acknowledging I am a responsible dog owner, discounts for Rego wouldn't work here because it is one payment for lifetime cover.
  12. Very clever and tasty for a poodle
  13. The man on the phone was probably just talking to someone else, most people wouldn't know the council number and couldn't be bothered to look it up so don't worry about it. You got Lucy back quickly and have fixed the fence so you have done what you can under the circumstances. Relax and enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
  14. Megan that's a horrible sensation and it does take some time to calm down even when you know everything is okay. Lucy is fine she had an adventure and hopefully she won't do it again. As for you don't think you are a terrible owner look at the positives Lucy has shown you where there is a way out of the yard and now you can fix it. Hope you are feeling better give Lucy some hugs sure that will make you happier.
  15. Sorry I don't know of any try contacting Pets at Peace or a similar organisation and they may be able to help you get in touch with phone counselling.
  16. Glad Wally is home, fingers crossed Diva is home soon too.
  17. That's great news and what a good Ranger to take them home for you too.
  18. Can't pick one day I just love having my dog and love that she wants to be with me and not someone else.
  19. Saw this elsewhere and think my neighbours are still trying to work out why I was laughing so much.
  20. Some acerage away from people so I could build 6 or 8 luxury kennels for Great Dane Rescue and when the rescues were safe to live in the house they could come and live there until their forever home was found. The house would be built with Danes in mind and a hydrotherapy pool would also be built for the doggies. I would have landscaping done so it was exciting and fun for the dogs too and to make sure it stayed that way I would employ some staff to help me look after all the Great Danes and environs. I might also need to build a little shed for myself as I doubt the dogs would want to share their kennel with a human
