  1. Sometimes I think costs are inflated by some Vets because there is inurance for pets. I would take out insurance before having my pet checked by a Vet because then there is no pre-existing condition to be excluded.
  2. My main concern is not the law but what I think is best for my dog. Unrestrained in my car if I have a prang/crash she is probably frightened and the minute the door is openend she bolts and then I probaly have a missing dog or on a busy road injured or dead dog. Restrained she can't just jump out an open door or smashed window, if I need help from anyone then my dog should not be able to prevent that because she is restrained and not able to get to them.
  3. aussielover I'm with Petplan and have no complaints, I have left other companies because they were useless and when I first insured Sparkles with one of them they put exclusions on her cover which I had claimed for my previous Dane so I looked for another company and Petplan were the best at the time. If you really don't think your dog is going to get sick then seriously consider insurance for accident and illness you never know when you may need it. I wouldn't be without insurance for my dog or cat just gives me peace of mind should they need treatment and if there is excess to pay I am sure my vet would let me pay it off.
  4. I think they do have a sense of time, if I go to work for my normal long shift Sparkles is usually asleep when I come home if I do a shorter shift she gets very excited when I get home.
  5. Thinking of you and sending healing vibes to Mindy.
  6. Lucky Sparkles got an extra drive today because I didn't go to the Post office this morning, curiosity got the better of me this afternoon so off we went and there were the books I ordered . Thank you for all your hard work putting it together, some great meal ideas there that I can't wait to try. The bread alone sounds tempting.
  7. I don't have one but Pig in Mud make a door for giant breeds which fits into a sliding door and can also be locked. Stable door type is what I would regard as the ultimate door for a giant breed.
  8. Thanks for letting us know they are active now, I'm always looking for ticks and fleas on my girl and cat even in the middle of winter.
  9. Without sounding uncaring and horrible I think you need to step back and face reality you cannot always be with Lucy and acting in her best interests would be to get her use to being on her own and not looking at doggy daycare. It is normal to feel guilty leaving your dog I feel horrible when I leave my girl but she is fine for over 12 hrs I have to be away for work and it is shift work too. She knows when the uniform is on I am going to be away for a long time, days off I spend with her mostly because that is what I want to do not because I have to be with my dog. I used to take my girl to DDC on my way to work (it was free for me) and now realise it was the worst thing I could have done, I don't think she enjoyed it as much as I thought, she would be worn out at the end of the day and bad habits from other dogs were picked up. DDC has it's place but not regularly while you go to work IMO. I would rather spend the money saved by taking my dog out or even putting it into a holiday fund so we could go away together on holiday. I think if Lucy is happy at home now leaving her while you are at work will be quite okay too, just spend some quality time with her when you get home. Try not to make too much of a fuss of her when you first get home and when you have both settled down and got over the excitement of getting home take her for a walk.
  10. Dogs I am so sorry I had hoped to read better news about your Dane X, please give her a big gentle hug from me I remember meeting her when I met you she's gorgeous I hope and pray she can improve and spend much more time with you. (I do remember her name but won't use it out of respect for you as you haven't mentioned her name.) Extra hug given to Sparkles tonight!
  11. She stayed on there this time!

  15. Thanks for the up date steve, will patiently wait for something good to come in the mail instead of the usual bills.
  16. Harnessed in the back she can put her head out the window if she wants I make sure we don't have any traffic on that side otherwise the window is up and sunroof open. I Like to have my dog harnessed so if I do have an accident my dog can't escape in any of the activity going on when exchanging address etc. I've heard too many horror stories about dogs escaping then and getting lost.
  17. Thinking of you dogslife. Chanti found the right home when she found you and Ella.
  18. Happy to wait, will be a pleasant surprise from the usual bills in the mail :D Thanks for doing all the hard work too Jaxx'sbuddy
  19. I thought that was well known from years ago, the sulphur dioxide is used to keep the meat looking red and fresh. Will never feed any of my pets food where sulphur dioxide is used.
  20. My girl was too big for lap sitting when I got her 9 month old dane, she was in the back seat of the car with a harness on as a reward for selecting her rephrase that she chose me she had a large smelly vomit on the way home I was stuck at the start of the F3 and just wanted to get home on the Central Coast. After that trip I had to coax her into the car until she realised it was really fun to go places now she loves it and doesn't like to miss out and hasn't been sick since.
  21. As long as you and your dog are happy who cares what others think! I waited until the rain stopped becuase my Dane doesn't like walking in the rain but loves to walk in puddles and get wet on walks. Perhaps the lady should go and buy a raincoat for your dog and 4 gumboot paw protectors too just so the paws don't get wet either.
  22. So sorry for your loss Jules P for you and the girls. run free Brock
  23. How could you refuse an icecream to these 3 after going to the beach!
