  1. We had an understanding and that is that if someone was to come forward and show a real interest in the pup, the breeder would give me a call and advise me, this didn't happen. If the breeder had not said that I would not have had any expectations. A promise is a promise, at least I thought so. The daughter, whom the pup belonged to, was niceā€¦.her mother, on the other hand, was rude and abrupt from the onset. I guess, as most of you have said, I have dodged a bullet, it is sad that there are such people like her in the breeding world and it can be definitely off putting but I won't let this negative experience deter me from continuing in my search. Consider yourself lucky. Even though I believe the breeder did the absolute wrong thing by you, and should have stuck to her part of the bargain, who would want to have a relationship with someone like that. The saying goes, one door shuts and another opens.
  2. Yes, the breeder is running a business as you say, but if the OP was given a week to decide, and the breeder was unsure which way the decision would go, and along comes a sure thing, wouldn't it be common courtesy to contact the OP and and give them the right to decide? Personally, I think it's quite rude and unbusiness like and the OP probably is fortunate to be involved with such a breeder.
  3. I've sadly had the same thing happen to me too. Back in the days before tail docking was outlawed in Victoria, our family looked at a puppy and at the time, weren't 100% on the idea of a tail that was being left entire. We were given a week to decide. We did decide within the week to welcome that puppy into our family tail and all, only to be informed that he had been sold the following day. I found that a very poor conduct by the registered breeder. I know it works both ways, but surely a courtesy call was in order.
  4. Yes. I think that is one smart puppy. She knows what's best for her.
  5. I do make her home cooked meals a couple times a week and also feed her cut up raw chicken necks for a meal sometimes or maybe even raw meat Does she eat what you offer other than the dried food?
  6. Personally,I wouldn't pay that much for a puppy without proof of parentage. More often than not, it's worth the wait to get something from a reputable breeder, but not knowing the price of pom puppies, maybe you could buy one for less money.
  7. I have two miniature schnauzers and from time to time we come across a beautiful long haired shepherd who is the most laid back pussycat ever. He lays down to play with the smaller dogs at the park, and I have no hesitation letting them get together. I reckon it all depends on the individual dog.
  8. I certainly don't profess to be an expert in animal behaviour, but, the dog nipped a tradesman when said tradesman entered the property without the owner being there. Isn't this just protection of the property? I know my dogs protect their property too. Just as an example, years ago our family had a Great Dane who adored our neighbours whenever he came in contact with them, but if the neighbour popped his head over the fence, he would go bezerk. I would hope he wouldn't bite the neighbour but he never had the chance so we never found out. The tradie was quite silly to enter the dog's property without the owner being present.
  9. According to my vet yes it was fine its only a park, yes I know inoculations and all the rest of it but seriously she was there for all of 5 mins. Something I have learnt dogs and pups especially are way more hardy than we think... Cross contamination doesn't need long but I guess if your vet said it was OK then it must be so. Well Ive had dogs for over 35 yrs and have taken all new pups to parks or puppy preschool never had a issue, obviously I don't let them go near other dogs I don't know or near droppings or off leash dog parks. Im involved in dog clubs and never met someone who has had a pup get sick from visiting a park... Im sure it has happened but. I appreciate what you say and I'm not trying to be argumentative, but why is it that breeders and vets alike say not to take puppies into public places as in parks or streets until around 2 weeks after they have had their shots? That's what I have always been told, not just by one vet, but two or three that I have had dealings with.

  11. Is it a good idea to bring such a young pup to the park when it is frequented by so many other dogs? When we brought our pup home, my older boy was outside and I just put the pup down on the back lawn for the older boy to sniff. Perhaps we were very lucky, but they hit it off from the word go and are still the best of buddies.
  12. I assume your post is referring to my post. I wish it were that simple. Sometimes it's easier to just not notice things. I think the post referred to was by Tdierik
  13. What a wonderful post Yonjuro. So much wisdom, especially the bolded part. Yes, Yonjuro's post was very sensible and informative. The problem with a number of dog owners is that they just don't know how to handle their dogs inn certain situations. I don't believe it's them wanting to be cruel to their pets, it's just plain ignorance. They need to be taught the ins and outs of owning and caring for their companion. Many years ago at the park I frequent with my boys, there is a woman who has a beagle. When said Beagle was a puppy, she was walking past me and my boys who were off lead, and the puppy, as as most puppies are overexcited, this pup sort of lunged at my boys to say hello. Nothing nasty about this puppy and my boys didn't mind. But stupid owner wanted so show that she was in total control, yanked the lead so hard the pup was swinging in the air. I tried to protest that this was not the way to go and that positive reinforcement was. I was told in no uncertain manner with her arms akimbo that she had a personal trainer for her pup and that she would do as she wishes. Now, how could I argue with that lol. Needless to say, years later, her dog still doesn't listen to her and the poor thing is so obese, she can hardly waddle around the park. That's what I call ignorance.
  14. So, the dog has no recall and she's prepared to let it run amok amongst other dogs. Sheesh!!!! Accident waiting to happen. Just allowing a 4 year old to be in charge to take charge of two large dogs sends out danger signals to me. Granted she may have only been a couple of metres away but the damage could have been done by the time control is regained.
  15. I agree with you. It would great for Simba as in a new lease on life and also the pup will be taught the necessities of life by her.
  16. I wonder if it could be because the pup in question is blue
  17. You answered your own question by saying you didn't think you should subject your dog to such confrontation. Why would you? I have had 4 mini schnauzers over time and none of them have had a bad temperament. All have had sweet natures without a bad bone in their body. I have yet to meet a nasty one. Perhaps its the way your family is bringing them up in their home. I don't mean this in a nasty way. My current two will welcome any other dog into their home as well as human visitors and are just wonderful with my grandchildren.
  18. Congrats on your new puppy. I am though surprised that you didn't look into possible problems before you purchased rather than later, when it may be too late. You said you had been looking at dogs for a while. I sincerely hope that your pup won't have the problems associated with the blues, but prior knowledge would have been an advantage.
  19. That's exactly what I meant in my previous post. The idiot owner will make the dog pay for his/her (owner) stupidity.
  20. I agree. The owners are morons and quite frankly don't deserve to share their lives with an animal. Unfortunately, in the end, it's the dog who pays for their owner's idiocy.
  21. As for small dogs, it ALL depends on the owner of that small dog. I have two miniature Schnauzers and just because they are small, they are NOT allowed to behave in a rude manner at the dog park. The will happily play with dogs much larger than themselves and I allow them to if I can see the larger dog, or even dogs more their size that don't pose a threat. I have never mollycoddled my two, or their predecessors. They are dogs, and allowed to behave accordingly.
  22. Me too. I feed twice daily. Morning 7.30, evening around 5.30
  23. Will he eat raw chicken feet? I give my two mini schnauzers a frozen one each as they have natural glucausamine. I have fed these to all my dogs and have never had an arthritis problem with any of them.
  24. I take around 6 of the council provided poo bags at a time. The reason being that I don't have to go to the dispenser each time I come to the park. It's more a matter of convenience than one of greed. At home, I use the supermarket ones they have in the produce section.
