Boston terriers are hardly a low energy breed. The word 'Terrier' in the breed label should've given me a clue.
-
Do you think, too, that within a purebreed, there still are individual temperaments & personalities.... as well as the breed characteristics? Not that I'm suggesting it for the OP, but that's one reason we've adopted adult dogs (beyond puppy stage) tibbies from breeders. So we can get an idea of the individual personality. Our tibbies and our shelties have all been quite individual in their behaviours.... as well as showing some breed characteristics.

To expand, I'd never suggest getting 2 puppies at once. We've always adopted a beyond puppy stage, adult dog from a breeder ... then, after a period, added a second.

Concerns Rspca Is Destroying Pets That Could Be Kept Alive
mita replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Both the OP article & the RSPCA WA update said the matter is still before the courts. One seems to suggest it's the State Administrative Tribunal. Or does that only relate to action by the person from whom the cavs were originally seized? If that's so, then surely the fate of the mother & puppies, re both their conditions/behaviours during foster-caring... and RSPCA decisions after foster-caring ... should be a specific case to be reported for assessment by the State Administrative Tribunal. That would require evidence & witness statements being presented. Seems to me the sooner it's under review by an independent body that has some judicial clout, the better. -
A French Bulldog, a Boston Terrier or a Cardigan Corgi. We always have 2 dogs so they're company for each other when left alone. Maybe go to some dog shows & see the breeds and talk to the breeders. That how we discovered Tibetan Spaniels. Don't think this is a Tibbie situation, tho'.

Good thought, perrin. Thanks for the link, P.

Couple years back, our local police in this part of Brisbane put a warning in the district newspaper. They warned that a gang of thieves was targeting small, attractive dogs & taking them from people's yards. Dogs like that could easily be sold on, they said. The advice they gave was not to leave your dogs in the front yard.

A tibbie went missing on the Gold Coast for 7 months. Spooked by fireworks. His family arranged for MISSING to be added to his microchip data base.... which would indicate, if he was ever scanned, that his family were looking for him. 7 months later, someone bought a tibbie into AWL Qld Shelter.... saying that the owners couldn't keep him any more. At the vet inspection, he was routinely scanned. Up came MISSING with owners' details. So, far from that being owners who couldn't keep him.... they were looking for him. AWL phoned his family who raced down to the shelter. There was a big reunion as the little tibbie threw himself into their arms. AWL reported there was not a dry eye in the place! I didn't know you can have MISSING added to the microchip data. It's well worth it, if your dog goes missing.

Sorry. I took Beenleigh from your location. Sadly, there's not an AWL Shelter in cooee of Bald Hills. But just up the road at Caboolture is that district's Animal Welfare rescue group. Responsible folk, recognized by the local council. They have an Op Shop in the heart of Caboolture. Maybe they'd put up a notice or pass word around. Lot of retired people up that way. Phone number & address: http://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/app/cad/default.aspx?ref=717

Are these people located at Beenleigh? If so, a suggestion from left-field but in the area. There's lots of volunteers associated with AWL Qld & there's an AWL shelter at Beenleigh. Why not contact them & ask for a notice to be passed around the volunteers? That could reach the type of people who love animals & give their time to help with dogs that need understanding. There's also a Facebook page where anyone can post: https://www.facebook.com/awlqbeenleigh

Taliban Claims To Have Captured Gi Dog Named Colonel

I found this on a site about animals in Islam. I have no idea if it's credible. But there's a reference to the Koran: Animals in War Even in war, animals cannot be killed except if needed for food. Hazrat Abu Bakr, the first Caliph after the death of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(s) (632-634 A.C.) addressed the Muslim army at a place outside Medina, called Jorf, before sending them off for the battle of Muta. Among the instructions he gave to the soldiers was not to slaughter animals except for food. (The Qur'an, 22:40; Tabari III, p. 123). -
The first pitch-reduced dogs that I met, I didn't know it. Two tibbies owned by show people who lived in the suburbs. Their voices were husky, rather than raspy... & (silly me!) commented on what sexy voices they had. I realize that's just one case, but their voices sounded pleasant.

The article in the OP refers to the body that can review action by the RSPCA in WA. There is a similar tribunal in Qld. The woman has also launched civil proceedings against the RSPCA in the State Administrative Tribunal for a review of the decision to take her animals. The matter is still before the tribunal. -

Again, well said, skyefool. -
My tibbie girl, Annie, believes that her pain must get attention. She had a sickening tumble down the stairs. Then couldn't put her weight on one front leg. She was also hunched as if her back hurt terribly. The eyes said it all, 'I am suffering.' Rushed her to the vet who also noted the same behaviour with the leg & back. Couldn't find an actual sore spot, tho'. Prescribed medication... & I was to bring her back next day if no improvement. When we got home, I put her carefully on the grass, in case she wanted to go to the toilet. Then she spotted her best friends, the racing greyhounds at the back, gathered at the fenceline. She took off like a rocket to join them... & have her usual run. No limp, no hunched back ...

Isn't Yoshi beautiful! He looks so happy to be back with his family. All power to microchipping which brought him home 8 months later.

AWL Qld just got in a chihuahua x called Lady, aged 21 yrs. An AWL volunteer is adopting her. Lady's pic here.... she's very pretty:

Tibbies are born with the gift of climbing like mountain goats ( along with the hare-feet that make it easy). Good idea, minimax, about the baby gate. I have one for the front sunroom where I don't want our tibbies going. I'd also put in the playpen each night an article of my clothing that strongly has my smell on it. Like an old unwashed T-shirt OK if he chews it, too). Or rub your hands all over his soft toys. Might bring him the comfort of his owner at night. We lost out tibbie one night when she accidentally got locked out. Found her on a 10 ft high shelf in the storeroom. She'd climbed the step-ladder leaning against it. Another owner was working up on his roof, when he felt a poke in his ribs. His tibbie had followed him... 'Hello, Dad!' You'll have interesting times ahead with that gorgeous cutie. Love that face!

Our Grandma (formerly Tessa), who lived until she was 22 ys, was a mixed breed little black dog... with some white. She looked like a small spaniel ( plumed tail like a tibbie) crossed with a small poodle.
-
Also the oldest was our own. Dear Grandma, who was just short of 23 yrs of age. Rescued as a puppy thrown from a car, her name was Tessa. When she got to 13, we thought she was elderly & she was nicknamed Grandma. But she lived nearly 10 more years & would only answer to 'Grandma'. I even had to get her name changed on her council registration. She used to visit the University of Qld Vet Clinic, from 19 yrs onwards, so they could keep a good eye on her. A student would hold her & say, 'This dog is older than me!'/

I just caught up with this thread ... & the 'model'. So help me, I thought it was satire. There is something called the Ig Nobel awards for people who present really stupid science. The Government of Victoria & the relevant minister should be nominated. The dog 'model' is based on a 'belief' that went out centuries ago... that is, physical features are predictive of behaviour. This nonsense is exactly the same. Hint to Victorian Government & relevant minister. If it's dog behaviours that concern you, in relation to personal & public safety... start with behaviour in formulating guidelines. No one has ever been bitten or savaged by the shape of a dog.... that has no behaviours.

A bird kept dive-bombing little Lily next door .... when she was in the back garden. Her family were worried about her eyes being injured, too. Someone told her dad to get rubber snakes from the joke shop & hang them from the clothes hoist, tree branches & edge of the deck. Shall never know if it would work, because he was still searching for some rubber snakes when the bird just didn't come back. Lily's dad reckons maybe the bird was a mind-reader. :)

One If My Dogs Has Been Hospitalised

Agree. -
This fits Tibetan Spaniels as well.... tho' the degree of biddability varies. Just my theory, but I think dog breeds that had to survive in difficult/harsh/demanding conditions learned to be exactly as you describe, in order to survive. I read where Tibetan horses behave differently from those in the West. They take a lot of the 'control' from the rider, because they're first to be aware of 'coming' rockfalls, weather changes, dangerous creatures around.. So the Tibetan horse makes decisions about actual path to take.... & the riders follow that. Tibbies ask about anything that's asked of them... 'And the point of this, is?' You'd better be able to convince them. But it's made up for the fact that once they agree & learn something... they never forget & apply it themselves. They'll even apply it against you!
