  1. Jessie's (now at the "Bridge") best mate Holly, the Boxer had DM. I found a few websites for her owner and added them to Jessie's Favourite Dog Links Just scroll down the page until you come to Degenerative Myelopathy. Hope there's some info there that helps
  2. Is your breeder from SA? Maybe check with them I take Pele to the Semaphore Vet Clinic and am happy with them, but they are way out of your way. Pele's breeder is at Virginia and uses the Adelaide Plains Vet Clinic at Two Wells. She has had several Amstaffs over the years. I took Pele for several visits with John Katakazi after she broke her foot. A lot of dog breeders also use Chris Girling at Noah's Crossing Vet Clinic at Lewiston. He breeds Dogue De Bordeaux. Hope this helps
  3. Matthew is great Pele needs another visit as I think that she might have a sore spot in her back.
  4. I met Marnie at the Sue Hogben seminar a few weeks ago and got to cuddle her She is gorgeous
  5. Tripe is the edible lining and accompanying content of a ruminant's first or second stomach. Paunch tripe comes from the large first stomach and honeycomb tripe comes from the second. Green tripe means that the tripe has not been cleaned, bleached or scalded. The actual color can be green or almost black in color. It should never be white or almost white. This product has been used in Europe for years by many of the old time breeders. I am in NZ so no idea where you get it in Aussie. But it is well worth looking for! Any dog I know of that gets a large amount of it,will look vastly different in only a few weeks. Better coat, clearer eyes, more muscle etc etc. You must feed other stuff too, although it is already very balanced, but it really works. I also know people who use it as an addition to kibble and still see benefits. Tomas. I'd love to be able to get green tripe but AFAIK you can only get it from an abbatior as it is illegal to sell to the public in Australia unless it is bleached which kills all the goodness Here's a great article on raw tripe No Guts, No Glory
  6. She was very good After Ness and Pele being the Champion Piglets at the DOL meet I was amazed Well done! I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Hopefully the rain god will be kind
  7. I'll be there, and have asked the rain god not to come on Sunday afternoon. Please nobody wash their cars or windows
  8. I'm looking at doing both the GSDCSA and DGK&OC trials. Not keen on doing 2 days in a row, but they are both my side of town. Pele almost had another Novice leg at Para on Saturday but the little skunk blew the recall - she never does that
  9. I wouldn't worry. Dogs do disgusting things like dig up and eat smelly things and they lick their bums Grumps should be fine.
  10. Beautiful pics little tails. The love just shines thru Wishing you many happy years with Marnie. She is sooo adorable looking
  11. This manual is very useful..alot of good information to be found here The Merck Veterinary Manual
  12. No, because the medication may not be evenly distributed thru the tablet
  13. I freeze the liver then partially thaw. Makes it easier for slicing and not as "bloody" eeeeuuugh!!! Then put on baking paper on oven trays and cook on low until dried out
  14. Hi Melo, I recommend Matthew Condon too
  15. It is never too early to start training your pup. Now is the time to start Have your heard of "clicker" training? Get a clicker (most pet stores or dog supply places sell them now) or simply use the word "YES!!!" (clicker works better as it is a distinct sound) and "power" it up. Your puppy doesn't know what the "marker" sound means yet, so you need to "power" it up. To do so "click" or say "Yes!!" and toss puppy a treat. After 4 or 5, maybe a few more C/T (click and treat) your puppy will be whipping her head around at the sound of the "click". Now you are ready to use it. Wait for your puppy to do something you like such as sit. C/T. Wait and when she sits again C/T. After a few times she'll start to work out that "Sit" = C/T and will start to offer the behaviour again. When she is offering the "sit" start to add the word "sit" just before she sits, then C/T. When she's reliably sitting on cue phase out the clicker and start to randomly reward the sit. Use the clicker for other behaviours the same way. See something you like then C/T and your puppy will start to repeat what is rewarded. For things a little bit more complex start to reward an approximation of what you want. For example you want her to lie down, so you see her start to put the front legs lower to the ground so C/T, by now she'll be getting the idea of what the clicker is about so next time wait for a bit lower to the ground and C/T that until you have what you want then start to add the command just before the behaviour is completed and C/T as for the sit command. Check out these web pages for more info - http://www.clickerlessons.com/whatis.htm http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/lessons.html http://www.clickertraining.com/basics You and your puppy will love clicker training and it will help you form a bond. There is no force or punishment involved so is perfect for young puppies. Good luck with your training
  16. Absolutely I also buy Pele's heartworm monthlies on-line - much cheaper Can usually slip in a dog toy for the same postage
  17. I used to give Green Lipped Mussel to Jessie (now at the "Bridge"). I used Seatone which I got from the health food store. The supermarket also stocked it in the vitamin section :D
  18. The lump that Pele had removed from her foot last was black and grew to almost pea sized in a matter of a few days. It was a histiocytoma. Apparently they can disappear again in about 3 months. Pele's was on top of toe, on her "ring finger". After I made the decision to have it removed as I was worried about her knocking it, she knocked it a couple of times and made it bleed. Sounds like what At has.
  19. OMG I'm so sorry Yellowgirl RIP Chester what a tragic accident We only met you for the first time at the last DOL get together. He was a gorgeous little man. He'll be sadly missed by all his friends, both 2 and 4 legged. Hugs to you
  20. Hi Terrorbull, Just had a quick look at my dog health books. Sounds like it is papilloma. We are watching a movie atm, will look further and get back to you
  21. I get it too both the licking and the fur with Pele and Jessie before her, both Bull Terriers
  22. Sorry to hear about your little BTM Pele, my BT broke the 4 bones in her front foot when she was 9 months old, she's now 4. Pele is fed a BARF diet. Not sure about the bone content of chicken necks and "dinosaur" bones are more recreational than nutrition. Chicken wings might have more calcium content than necks. With Pele I was still giving her puppy milk because she loved it and I was getting it super cheap through the Animal Welfare League where I volunteer, so she was getting more calcium from that and the Vet was happy with her diet Poor little mite with 2 weeks cage rest Hope the time passes quickly for you both and she heals well.
  23. I only buy human grade meat and mince for Pele. I won't risk pet quality.
  24. It's often referred to as Target Training Click on the link
